What about Sachin ??
by Yogesh on Mar 27, 2007 06:48 PM  Permalink

Just noticed that Mr. More has been talking about Ganguly taking the lead and playing the strokes instead of Uthappa and that Ganguly has not performed upto his potential , a fact as regards to the match against Sri Lanka , which I totally agree with. But Mr. More what about SACHIN ?? Where and when would you talk about this dismal performance against Sri Lanka was he also not one of the seniors who was expected to perform ?? Or SACHIN key liye sab kuch maaf ?

Mr. More who set the ball rolling with his "preference of youth" and "remove Ganguly" line got the Indian cricket team to be a shaky outfit. By the time Vengsarkar took over, there was hardly much time to correct all the misdeeds of Mr. More & Co.
Today he's speaking of how the team blundered! I think he should introspect about his performance as a selector and how his precedence has brought us to this shameful exit.
Mr. More, you were a lousy sportsman and then proved to be a flawed selector. Why don't you take complete retirement from this game and leave us of your irrational views. You'll do something good then.

Why the hell Kiron More?
by Albert Ryon on Mar 27, 2007 12:05 PM  Permalink

More is a below par cricketer. We should not give any importance to him. Probably media gets his comments free of cost (like we the readers). If they want comments from greats they need to pay! He pretends smart by wearing a sunglass. Phooo. More is the real culprit for the down fall of Indian cricket. A joker got a big responsibility as a chief selector.

Divine Justice is Wainting to be delivered

Sourav comes into the picture
- Opinion seems divided within BCCI on Team India captaincy issue
LOKENDRA PRATAP SAHI

Sourav
Calcutta: While coach Greg Chappell%u2019s fate is as good as sealed, opinion within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seems divided on the leadership issue.

%u201CI think it%u2019s time for a passionate captain,%u201D somebody involved with the selection process told The Telegraph on Monday evening.

He wished to remain anonymous.

While Sachin Tendulkar was vice-captain till the World Cup, the gentleman indicated Sourav Ganguly stood a better chance of getting back the captaincy, which was taken away in October 2005.

His argument: Barring the odd innings, Sourav has been %u201Cmost consistent%u201D since his comeback in mid-December.

In runs and averages, that translates to 214 (42.80) in three Tests and 509 (63.62) in ten ODIs.

Yet, it%u2019s not that Rahul Dravid doesn%u2019t have support in the corridors of power.

Somebody else associated with the selection process remarked he would %u201Cfirst%u201D like to interact with the World Cup manager (and selector), Sanjay Jagdale.

This gentleman, too, didn%u2019t want to be identified.

%u201CIt wouldn%u2019t be fair to judge Dravid%u2019s captaincy on the basis of what one saw on the TV%u2026 Just how warm was the team spirit in the dressing room? Did everybody prepare as they should have? These answers can best come from the manager,%u201D he said.

Sourav%u2019s performances have been well documented, but where will a tilt in his favour leave senior-most pro Sachin?

Surely, he wouldn%u2019t have accepted the vice-captaincy (in mid-January), after yet another poor tour of South Africa, if he wasn%u2019t mentally prepared to again captain India.

Sachin, however, had been reluctant to take up the responsibility when he last got the job (July 1999) and relinquished it some seven months later.

It was a listless tenure. Moreover, appearing weighed down, he%u2019d even forgotten to smile in that short period.

Sachin never quite came across as a charged-up and innovative captain in his first innings (August 1996-December 1997) either.

A great batsman isn%u2019t necessarily an extraordinary leader.

%u201CLook, a knee-jerk reaction won%u2019t help%u2026 Isn%u2019t the captain only as good as his team? We%u2019ve got to make a rational and not emotional call,%u201D is what a key BCCI official emphasised.

Dravid%u2019s batting may not have suffered, but he doesn%u2019t breathe fire and is, well, conservative.

Then, how about accountability for the awful body language throughout a miserable World Cup?

Significantly, at the moment, there%u2019s no move to %u201Cgamble%u201D and give the No. 1 job to somebody young.

Sourav is soon going to be 35, while Sachin turns 34 next month.

The BCCI, obviously, is keen to play with bat close to pad.

Dravid Cappel Moe ruined India
by Faceless Spirit on Mar 27, 2007 06:32 AM  Permalink

No failure of tact or strategy

can be the reason of defeat.
Question of failure arises only when
there is tact or strategy.
Nono of these things existed
ever in Dravid Chappel regime.

Secondly,Ganguly inherited a battered team torn by match fixing controversies which even Sachin refused to lead.
He hand picked players like Yuvraj, Kaif, Nehra, Balaji, Zaheer, Harbhajan.
He insisted Sreenath to stay on.
He made effective use of Kumble
Laxman in suitable situations and pitches.
Even Dravid was a very shaky and slow one day player.
Gangly protected him from being dropped and lost.
He even made him to keep wicket just to justify his place in the team.
Dravid Chappel from day one started disturbing the rythm of the Indian team. The team hand picked by Ganguly fetched initial good results for Dravid also.
As time passed by the entire enthusiasm
evaporated.
Everybody became shaky.
None was sure about his position.
All suffered from identity crisis.
Pathan was destroyed in the process.
So many mistakes they have committed
it would be another Mahabharat.
Only foolish regional robots like would disagree
with me.
Ganguly used his limited strength brilliantly.
He knew how to get what from his team mates.
He used his brain in field setting ball changing.
He encouraged everybody to perform.
Dravid is no no way near Ganguly,
you must admit today after the debacle.

I think More could be suggesting about Gaguly, Tendulkar and Kumble. He was fairly boldest of all selectors. He dropped Gaguly before

Suggestions to Pawar
by Srinivas on Mar 27, 2007 03:05 AM  Permalink

Batting:
1) Ability to hit the ball above hip level, keeping it on the ground all the way.
2) Good technique on outside the off stump. No one is good in the current team
3) Good sweeping technique, currently the balls are popping to square leg.
4) Try and compete with Aussies and SA in batting.
5) Back lift should be more like Yuvraj or Lara. It comes with extreme confidence to hit the ball.

Bowling:
1) Line should always be one side of the stumps (offside). They look like minnows when they bowl on both sides of the stumps. They keep targeting stumps.
2) length should be automatic. They should not adjust it during the match.
3) Should have considerable bounce and speed. No swing required. White ball, Seem, pitch and weather will add the required swing.
4) Spinners should have maximum spin on the ball like Murali. Very positive attitude, good batting and fielding are compulsory.

Fielding:
1) Expert catching. All 5 batsmen should be very good fieders and should field with in 30 yards.
2) Consistent hitting at the wickets.
3) Improve diving skills.

Did not find any of these in the current team. Its not rocket science to impart these skills. Do not rely on the domestic tournaments. There in domestic cricket, bowlers keep bowling to the wicket, which does not encourage batsmen suitable to international cricket.
