try gandhigiri
by zubair shighrekar on Mar 26, 2007 02:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

hey mates

why dont we try GANDHI GIRI on these players...

give them a royal welcome at the airport...

BCCI should give them bonus for the early exit..

they should be sent to meet our president and the prime minister for this display...

and they should be given guard of honour...

and so on, lets see how these guys will take this....

more GANDHI GIRI ideas are welcome...

Yes, more GANDHIGIRI is needed for them. Clad them in white loin cloth and give them a Gandhi stick each. A round framed spec for each of them will butify them of course. And after the guard of honour shoot them in public. I think Thats the best Gandhigiri we can offer to our fellow Cricketers !

MAIN CULPRITS ARE GANGULY AND HIS SUPPORTES
by Suman Bhat on Mar 26, 2007 10:36 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

How can these players are commited to team??
Harbajan singh went wktless in 2 matches
sachin being VC failed with his bat
ganguly wasted more balls than the runs he scored. His poor fielding and poor running wkt and unwilling to take singles cost more runs to team
dhoni failed with bat
Zahirkahn was wktless in firest match and in he took 2 wkts against SL but he gave more extra runs b'cuz of erratic bowling.
Sewag selection was criticsed by board memebers and chief selector, was highest rungetter, and scored 100 and won mom.

IF some players are not readyt o commit to team but not support captain and team why don%u2019t blame the individual players?? If the other players are not ready to listen to the capt or the coach, what will the captain/coach do about it?
A captain is as good as his teammates if captain has be remved then all the players should be replaced by youngsters.
Team India lost WC capaing Bcuz of lack of team spirit All palyeras were responsible for it

Hi Suman are you suffering from amnesia? Ganguly and Sehwag are two of the fewplayers who at least tried to fight. Agreed that Ganguly was slow against Bangladesh but had he not been holding the fort at one end India would have probably finished at less than 150.Rather than blaming seniors what would you think about the scores of Uthappa and Dhoni? You have mentioned about Zaheer but why was Agarkar so heavily relied upon despite his dismal performance? Lastly regarding captaincy : a captain is as good as his team. Agreed ! But it was also agreed by different self-styled pundits that team India 2007 was better than Team India 2003. How comes then that Team India 2003 fared better than Team India 2007 despite having an "inferior" captain? The same Zahir Khans/ Sehwags/Tendulkars/ Harbhajans were part of the same team.
My dear friend, you'll be better off remembering that captains are born, not made !So please forget criticising Team India-it is inferior captaincy and groupism that has led team India out of the World Cup.

root of the problem
by mahesh nair on Mar 26, 2007 03:47 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We are not getting to the root of the problem. One of the person did touch it.

Root of the problem is not the players, coach, selection committee.

It is policy and the media.

Revamp the full policy. Let not politicians enter in. BCCI has been ruled by politicians for years thats why if same situation is carried forward, we will do the same discussion 20 years from now.

My suggestions are:
1) The selection committee should be neutral and should comprise of
a) Two to Three successful CEOs (not entreprenuers)
b) Two people with good cricket knowledge-not cricketers (test across the nation can be conducted and selected every two years)
c) Two senior cricketers

2) The BCCI board should be elected by public.
3) There should be control over advertisements. Players with certain points (calculated every season) can be allowed to advertise. If they fail in matches, their ratings go down and they cant do advertisements.
4) Official Raw Talent Hunt conducted across the country.
5) Pitches to be changed. ( Two pitches matching conditions from each country should be in place and matches to be held frequently). Same can also be placed for practice.
6) Rotation of players
7) Quota system to be removed.
8) Last but not the least-SWAT committee to be comprised of the similar type of people as the selection committee but different set of people so that there is no bias.

I hope if this is implemented, We will be far more superior to any other Test playing nation. Cant 1 billion population produce better players than other countries which has 1/10th of the population?

Same procedure should be implemented for not only cricket but for every sport and I'm sure India will unbeatable in every game we play.

Cheers!!!!

I fully agree.Unfortunately the corrupt politicians of our country would be unwilling to let the power of controlling cricket and its fortunes go out of their hands. Look at the performance of other sporting associations headed by Indian politicians. So, one addition to your proposal would be "No person who is officially affiliated to any National/ Major Regional political party should be allowed to head / have a major post in BCCI"

Dravid Chappel More
by S Ramanujam on Mar 25, 2007 08:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It was a combination that carried on unnecessary experiments.
1. Changing the Captain was not necessary.
2. Instead of Saurav's come back innings being appreciated he was dropped from captaincy and team.
3. Unnecessarily players were dropped and non performers like VRB Singh , R P SIngh and Raina were given chance game after game.
4. Pathan was destroyed.
5. Dhoni's batting orders were changed.
6. Commando trainings and Kabaddi and foot ball games were unnecessarily played.
7. Zaheer and Harbhajan were not relied upon and dropped and reinducted.
8. Laxman and Kaif were unceremoniously removed.
9. A sense of uncertainty was created among the members.
10. Team spirit were deatroyed.
11. Dravid was never magnanimous and never gave courage and inspiration to players to fight as a team.
12. The same team under Ganguly without Chappel interference would have been a much much better team.
13. You can never expect performance from shaky players suffering from uncertainty.
14. What happened was written on the wall the day Rahul took over the mantle.
15. A good instrument Team India was gradually made a junk by More-Chappel and Dravid trio.
There should not be any misconception about it.

Player rating for Team India
by bhuvnesh nindrajog on Mar 25, 2007 07:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Robin Uthappa-1/10 -was hyped as a replacement for Sehwag. proved it by getting out like him. didnt do anything of note even against minnows
Saurav Ganguly-5/10-played well but not upto his potential. failed in crunch game
Virender Sehwag-4/10-Started to look like he was coming to form till stupidly gave his wicket in crunch situation as usual
Sachin Tendulkar-0/10-failed miserably against banglas and Sri Lanka, Innings against bermuda doesnt count if we consider him a great batsmen
Rahul Dravid-5/10- played well in crunch game but was poor in 1st match, not an inspiring captain must have felt frustrated at failures of top batsmen
Yuvraj Singh-4/10-played well in 2 matches but out at crucial times in 1st and last match. should learn to carry the innings with more responsibility
Dhoni-0/10-Failed miserably against all, though everyone thought the boundaries will be to his liking
Agarkar-3/10-why is he in the team when Pathan can bat better and can bowl well if he bowls within himself
Harbhajan Singh-3/10-in the team to take wickets and tie up one end neither of which he could achieve
Zaheer Khan-5/10-bowled well in patches but what happened to his batting. was known to be able to hit the ball a long way and defend for hours to give support to other batsmen
Munaf Patel-5/10-bowled well in patches but not at his fastest
Kumble-5/10-difficult to say anything based on performance against bermuda as even our batsmen were made to look world class against them when in reality they were not upto scratch
Greg Chappell-0/10-couldnt motivate the team, why did he insist on playing tendulkar down the order when he plays best as opener.took Indian team from bad to worse, couldnt come up with any ideas regarding team composition and strategy .failed as a coach as compared to tom mody who had similar resources as chappel. seems to have demotivated the players rather than motivate them

YOUR UN-BIASED WAY OF ANALYSING REALLY DESERVE RESPECT. IT SHOULD ATTRACT SUPPORTERS OF ANY LOBBY EXCEPT THE EXTREMELY BIASED ONE. EVEN I MIGHT DIFFER WITH YOU IN SOME INSTANCES; STILL I SUPPORT AND HAIL YOUR UN-BIASED ATTITUDE.

CARRY ON.

time to take harsh actions
by Amit Chakraborty on Mar 25, 2007 06:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In the wake of India's early exit from the Cricket World Cup 2007 here I present a critical analysis of why and how India were out, and then also presented is an in-depth prescription of an "11-member" possible solution (including a 12th man!) to save cricket in India.

After the thrashing defeat to their neighbouring islanders on Friday, the 23rd March 2007, it appears to be now almost certain that India will have to take an early exit from this edition of the World Cup. This has created utter disappointment and anger to the millions of Indians and it is now high time to take some strong action so that we do not go through the same situation again in the next World Cup. Let us first analyse how India were out of the tournament.

· Dravid won the toss in his first World Cup match as captain and decided to bat first in a pitch which had a lot of support to the bowlers. There was moisture and Virender Sehwag who was completely out of form and under enormous pressure for his place in the team, was sent to open with the in-form Ganguly. He got out cheaply and then comes another mistake by the captain. A young Uthappa, who never played outside Indian soil against an International team, was sent only to see him out soon. Thus, two batsmen were wasted by Dravid, whereas in such damp conditions Dravid himself should have come to open or at least after Sehwag got out, as Dravid has the technique and experience to face such situation. So both the decision to bat first and sending Sehwag/ Uthappa were wrong.

· While fielding, again Dravid made a big mistake by opening the bowling with Khan and Agarkar. It should have been Munaf instead of Agarkar as he has the pace. Then since it was obvious during India%u2019s batting that the Bangladeshi spinners bowled really well, one does not need to be genius to bring the spinners as soon as possible since the pacers were unable to give breakthroughs. His field placements were also awful, and any suggestions from the seniors like Ganguly were ignored (quite a disappointing scene to watch). Bowling changes were not right and the fielding was even worse. Dravid, Sehwag and Dhoni all had dropped catches in such a crucial match. You can%u2019t win matches if you drop catches and that too when you are defending a total of 191. However, it is worth noting that for Bangladesh 191 should have been a difficult target, as they do not normally score in excess of 150 runs in ODI matches against the test playing nations. But poor captaincy, untidy fielding and lack of self-belief have cost the match to India.

· Against Bermuda, they did really well despite loosing their opener Uthappa who can consider himself very lucky to have played in all three of the world cup matches without having his presence felt in the scorecard. I can%u2019t remember
