First of all somebody please explain me how this A1, A2, B1, B2...are determined? As per the normal simple rule, The group champion will be known as A1, B1, C1 and D1 while Group runners will be A2,B2,C2,and D2. If this is the rule then know one can exactlhy say, but, ya you can guess. But some other people say it doesn't matter whether you become group champion or runners, it will be decided according to the ICC ranking. India will be always B2. How? I understand somepeople's logic that if Srilanka and India go then according to the ICC ranking Srilanka will be B1 and India will be B2, no matter whether India becomes group champion or not. but where this rule is written? can somebody give me the link? Ok if it is true then, what happens if Srilanka doesn't go and India goes with Ntherlands. Will then be it is B2 for India or B1? What will be for Netherlands? Is it B1 or B2 though they are neither of them? So it is really confusing unless and untill we take champion as 1 and Runners as 2. To clear out some of your's confusion, the group league matches also comes into affect of Super Eight Result when the point is tied-off between two same group teams. Suppose India and Srilanka both tied with the points at Fourth position after the Super Eight, then the team whoever wins the group league match will go to the semifinal as they don't face eachother during the Super Eight. So I don't think that india will be always B2 unless and untill somebody explain it to me clearly and sends me the link of ICC where it is explained. Other than that I will request Rediff not to publish these kind of junks.

hi As per ICC rules teams will be ranked a1 or a2 based on seedings andn no as per points table.The purpose of this is so that viewers can know which date is their country playing and make their travel arrangements accordingly.Here a1 doesnt means first place it just a tag given as per seedings.If one of the minnow countries knock out a seeded country then the spot will be given to that country.So if south africa is knocked out by ireland say it will be given the A1 tag.ITS purely for making travel arrangements easier and nothing else.

Hello shuvra, The way ICC has decided to designate A1, A2 etc is confusing indeed. It is described in the links below. I even feel the rediff author has plagiarised his matter from these sites(the wordings are identical!!..but he has added more confusion by not copying the whole matter) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/low/cricket/6310307.stm It is also mentioned in ICC website...sorry i couldnt search up the link. It would have been so much better for ICC to resort to group standings as A1 and A2, as is expected by commonsense. Anywaz, the designation of A1, A2 are only important in knowing the schedule and venue of the game. Whatever be the case, points of one match from group stage will be carried over to the super8.
Quality goes down each passing day. If we could have only a decent portal that gives indian news with less advt. and less crappy news than rediff.. i will definitely block this site from my comp once for all.
It has become more and more money oriented nowadays with lots of pop up and stereaming voice video advts and hell lot of nuisance. Some are very cheap. There was a headline a few days back. " What arundhadhi roy should write about? "
as if arundhathi roy is going to listen to us and start writing what majority rediff viewers say.
Most of the times there is nothing outrageous as the headline says. And sometimes totally opposite.
For ex. "Kaif demands reason for ouster". In the article Kaif seems very polite and he acknowledges that he has to perform well but when you look at the headline you know how it seems. Seems like they have decided to put a permanent end to kaif's career with this headline. They dont understand the immense responsibility they have and the impact their articles have on people.
And a few months back some guy dressed up like Gandhiji and did a cheap pole dance video. You should have seen the immense coverage these guys had given him. These are the news that deserves no attention. He must be a relative of someone in Rediff.
Also when all other news papers are asking people to exercise restraint and maintain peace, rediff publishes an article "injustice to karnataka". this is like adding fuel to fire. Whats the need to publish the next day? They could have given a few days and analyse and write to allow people's temper to go gone down.
The Message boards were unedited and all indians beginning to call themselves in words that cannot be published. There is nothing to check that and nothing edited. I am sure the viewership in that few days would have incresed drastically but at the cost of spreading hatred among people.
It seems like rediff anyhow wanted to increase viewership to get more advts and make more money.
They try to create news but they only create nuisance.
Come on Rediff for long term success sacrifice a few dollars and rupees and be honest with yourself before you write something. Do something that makes the nation and readers proud of you.
excuse me but what do u expect the ICC to do?? make 4 groups and put 2 groups filled with all the low ranked teams such as scotland bermuda etc and put 2 groups filled with all the bad guys such as india aussie windies etc..?? whoever wrote this nonsense doesnt understand cricketing schedules and should back off if he doesnt know whats going on...quit writing dumb publications like these over the internet ure just making ppl think otherwise.
I and my Delhi mate knows about the ICC World Cup Fixture and about A1, A2, B1... D2 etc from www.bbc.co.uk on the day ICC release the fixture.
Rediff is Stupid on the top of that Rediff think we r Stupid, and u know what i think most of the people r realy stupid as they r commenting on other issues rather than commenting straightly on the subject which is Rediff r latelatiff.
I personaly feel sorry for myself why I am wasting time in reading www.rediff.com insted of reading www.cricinfo.com or www.bbc.com

REDIFF IS DAMM STUPID. IT IS A SHAME OF THE REDIFF TO DO THESE IDIOTIC NEWS.
This format was decided long back - Cannot beleive Rediff has allowed some idiot author to make this prime news. Also, there is no guarantee that India will go to the Super 8. If India loses to Bermuda, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka then they will not qualify. In that case whichever team qualifies will be B2. If India and Sri Lanka qualify however India will be B2 even if they win all their games. I agree it is a little confusing but the author has absolutely misunderstood the whole thing.

I agree with Sriram...the stupid goat who wrote this article should realize that the teams have been placed in the order (1,2,3,4) because of the seedings they have been given and not because thats how they will stand after the group matches...and to the guys who wrote this article....PLEASE APPLY YOUR FREAKIN BRAINS...
