Irfan's selection
by sunilkumar mishra on Feb 26, 2007 08:14 AM  Permalink

Hi guys too much has been read into the selection. even Sachin struggling for his foot movement at the fag end of his career wud have found difficult for an automatic pick based on pure performance, many agree but refuse to admit in public that even he is past his prime and could have been replaced by at least 20 others in the country waiting for their turn. May be the inevitable wud happen after WC , He is still one of my greatest driver to watch our games. So it is not big deal. wish like billion Indians my team plays well and donot play us down. sunil

Congrats Irfan!

Finally a sigh of relief!

I am not sure, whether all this drama was really needed. Any way!

I think Pathan should open the bowling with Zaheer Khan, and should be bowled for 2-3 overs in each spell.

Agarkar and Munaf should come 1st and 2nd change.

Irfan's batting ability, especially his fighting ability, provides stability to Indian batting order.

Harbhajan should be preferred over Kumble.

Is it not too early to congratulate Pathan? He may be a promising bowler, but the question mark over his present form still remains! The acid test for him begins now. If he succeeds in the World cup, he is indeed back, but if he does not, then he faces the risk of being dumped and not looked at for a long time. He is a match winner for India only provided he can get back his lethal edge. Otherwise, he is just an ordinary bowler. He will be under huge pressure if and when he is selected to play in the actual eleven for the world cup. Do congratulate him if he passes the World cup test!

pappu pass hogaya

Vengsarkar seems to be headless guy. Simply making comments with only one player is too bad since most of the team mates found out of form.

Yes Sameer, u are quite right.
It was the fitness which was under investgation not form, anyway form doesnot even matter to Indian team.
Who cares !!! India team main to "Baap ka raaj chalta hai" sabka.
But I really feel for Pawar, he was made the scapegoat. Pathetic !!!!

not all people critisizing the move..its 50/50..
...infact most of the people who understand cricket wanted him in...
I bet irfan is going to play crucial role in getting the balance of the team right..

teams are chosen on current form.... otherwise kaif or laxman would have been in and dinesh karthik out

sehwag, irfn, laxman, kaif..all are out of form...we had to pick two..and i think selectors have made a right choice...

potential match winners..
laxman is not a one day player at all..fielding..i haven't seen someone (except pathiv patel driop more catch than laxman)..he is not athletic at all nor great between the wickets..neither can he bowl..he is a type of batsmen who plays bowl according to its merrit...which means he can never slog etc etc
or accelerate if he keeps getting good line and length bowls...

Kaif...how many match winnings do you remember from him ? 1, 2,3 ?

But irfan and sehwag.both are all rounders..never ever underestimate the valu of al rounders...they can deliver with both bat and bowl..which is very crucial for the team sucess..

plus both have lot of match winning innings/spells under their belt..
If sehwag fires(i know chances are less now)...its game over for the oppostsition,....is the same true for kaif?
similaryly irfan as a one down batsmen and also as a bowler(agreed low on confidence, but its just a mater of time) can add immense value

India lost thet match by the way by about 200 runs. The pitch was turning big time and it wasn't Mr. Pathan's majic. But he's a good bowler and has time to improve. he's only 22

System to be BLAME !!
by on Feb 26, 2007 03:38 AM  Permalink

Hello guys

After reading all this commments. I just want to make a remarks.

We need select a TEAM INDIAN , who represent india in the best possible way. Its a pitty , a country where cricket is a culture , we can not produce 15 TOP players. If australia can drop Brett Lee ,why can not we drop Irfan or for that reason any one.

Match winners are not produce overnite or something. We need more solid organization in india, where we can look after for the talent , rather then ZONAL conflict and so on.

A country of population close 2 Billion can not produce 15 players of WORLD CLASS level, its a SHAME.

So forget all this and support our GUYS. Lets hope and pray everthing goes well.

Jai HIND !!

Irfans Selection
by kawaljeet singh sandhu on Feb 26, 2007 01:37 AM  Permalink

At first I am pleased Irfan is for the World cup. Now I just want to add the plight of fast bowlers. I myself played cricket as pace bowler may be I can try explain the difficulty the pace bowler goes through.

If you make make even youngester like Irfan or Munaf go through physical drills which may be every day getting up morning, jogging to running, streching, jumping, and also other exercises other than bolwing 10 to 15 overs at nets during conditioning camps. Over this if weather is warm it soaks out energy out of pace bowler. He generally operates with little soarness, and I am sure Irfan is going through this. As a result the Bowler looses pace and also sharpness. His bowling looks penetrative only in some of the spells although the bowler is always trying too hard. These drills may be for 3- 4 hours in morning and 3- 4 hours in the evening.
My only recommendation is to exert these bowlers smartly and dont just spend them out totally. You need to keep special physicio to assist there working. Vengsarkar says that Irfan needs to bowl more. It is easy to say when you find the bowler performing below par, but may be the case is that at that point of time bowler needs to relax a little. Now the amount of exercise the Bowler can enjoy vary from person to person. May be some one like Kapil or Srinath, can enjoy bowling little longer than Irfan or RP Singh. But we tend to exercise tham same. We need to evalutate this. May be or bowlers like Irfan with little more stored energy can bowl with sharp tooth.Over this we hardly count the travelling these players do it is also storing up stress in them, which they may not realise. You need to keep caring more for faster bowlers and add more energy to there diet. Shoiab and Asif would agree not drugs but healthy diet.
