Irfans Selection
by kawaljeet singh sandhu on Feb 26, 2007 01:37 AM

At first I am pleased Irfan is for the World cup. Now I just want to add the plight of fast bowlers. I myself played cricket as pace bowler may be I can try explain the difficulty the pace bowler goes through.

If you make make even youngester like Irfan or Munaf go through physical drills which may be every day getting up morning, jogging to running, streching, jumping, and also other exercises other than bolwing 10 to 15 overs at nets during conditioning camps. Over this if weather is warm it soaks out energy out of pace bowler. He generally operates with little soarness, and I am sure Irfan is going through this. As a result the Bowler looses pace and also sharpness. His bowling looks penetrative only in some of the spells although the bowler is always trying too hard. These drills may be for 3- 4 hours in morning and 3- 4 hours in the evening.
My only recommendation is to exert these bowlers smartly and dont just spend them out totally. You need to keep special physicio to assist there working. Vengsarkar says that Irfan needs to bowl more. It is easy to say when you find the bowler performing below par, but may be the case is that at that point of time bowler needs to relax a little. Now the amount of exercise the Bowler can enjoy vary from person to person. May be some one like Kapil or Srinath, can enjoy bowling little longer than Irfan or RP Singh. But we tend to exercise tham same. We need to evalutate this. May be or bowlers like Irfan with little more stored energy can bowl with sharp tooth.Over this we hardly count the travelling these players do it is also storing up stress in them, which they may not realise. You need to keep caring more for faster bowlers and add more energy to there diet. Shoiab and Asif would agree not drugs but healthy diet.
