RE:Sunil Gavaskar should be a politician
by ShaktiKumar Kurup on Apr 22, 2007 06:26 PM  Permalink
I Agree. Sunil Gavaskar has been a typical politician. As a player, he was no match for Greg Chappel. And after retirement, he has only commented and criticized others, while doing nothing for the game and cricketers. Chappel has been a successful coach for South Australia and has developed lot of Good ideas. Unfortunately he tried to lift a bunch of cricketers who has been spoiled by a highly infefficient BCCI and people like Gavaskar. It is unfortunate that people have chosen to vandalize the name of Greg Chappel without understanding his methods.

In India administrators/selectors/Players do not know the name of ACCOUNTABILITY. But in Australia that is not the case. Faster we adopt or teach people ACCOUNTABILITY, the better

chappel had a vision

when everyone critisises chappel, including mr gavaskar, why do they forget the period when the same Indian team made a world record chasing consecutive matches. At that time the so called experimenting of sending Dhoni/Pathan/Agarkar at no 3 was hailed by everyone. Now the same ppl go on criticizing the same experimentation. Its only complecency on Indias part that has put them where they are.And as far as Mr Gavaskar is concerned, he should know that being a great batsman doesnt mean Chappel could make everyone in the team a great batsman too. If that could be the case, Rohan Gavaskar should have been the best batsman in India , considering the stature his father holds. Players getting complacent is the only reason why we are out of thw world cup.

Gavaskar - kabhi right kabhi wrong !!!!
by Sandeep Das on Apr 22, 2007 04:56 PM  Permalink

Gavaskar is right about chappel being responsible for Indian cricket's current status. But absolutely wrong about that chappel is solely responsible. Hey Gavaskar - what abt that dirty piece of shit called sachin tendulkar. Why is he in the team when he has not been performing? Have the balls to criticize someone from your own fraternity and not just outsiders. Sunil buddy - jab tera apna sikka khota hain - baahar waale ko kyun gaali de rahaa hain ???

What you are saying is correct. They are the 2 most selfish batsmens. If you recollect Reliance Cup in 1987, Gavaskers one and only one century in ODI that too against New Zealand was selfishly timed. After that in the Semi finals against Englad in Wankhede, he did not play at all, when it was required the most. One should not forget even Tendulkar, in the Last world cup Finals against Australia, he was out th 2nd or 3rd ball of the innings. These are the 2 man of great names with mean and selfish attitudes.

In 1974, in First World cup, Sunil Gavaskar "SCORED" 36 Runs in 60 overs, reducing match to a joke. If he was an Australian, he would not have played international cricket again

Mr Gavasker, are you saying for the sake of it?
by Jyoti Tete on Apr 22, 2007 04:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mr Sunil Gavaskar's comment that Chappell is to be blamed for India's dismissal show at the world cup is unfair and uncalled for. Was he not in the panel, which chose Greg Chappell to be the coach of the Indian Cricket team. Why did he not oppose the selection of Chappell at that time? It is very easy to comment on somebody else's performance. It is unfair, Mr Gavaskar, to attribute India's perfomance to the coach. When a respected cricketer of Sunil Gavaskar's calibre makes this sort of statement, it should be sensible and not just for the sake of it.

most of the players who played in world cup were not Chappel choice. They were they one believed to be gods in india. then how can chappel be responsible. Chappel wanted Tendulkar to come 3-4 place. Tendulkar like a selfish guy wants to come opener. Opening the inning is the most easy job. it was not chappel team. it was BCCI team.

Couldn't agree more than Gavaskar
by KAPIL JHAVERI on Apr 22, 2007 04:52 PM  Permalink

I think India has seen the worst cricket under the guidance (or lack of it) under Greg. Time proves it... that Greg has never ever been able to build the sort of rapport that John Wright once did with the then Captain and the Team. More than that, appointing More and Co. as selectors was a huge mistake in itself.
