Gavaskar is Right in a way.
by V S on Apr 22, 2007 08:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Chappell was too honest and too rude for Indian team and it's big egoistic "stars". He did not understand the psyche and culture of Indians .

Chappell had only the good of Indian cricket in mind when he tried to implement a process...but he forgot that the Indian mindset is to keep hanging on to the "chair" or "position"

Chappel was never a great coach. Even his Aussie mates know that and say that. His only success is in destroying the Indian team.

I think the problem was that Chappell tried experimenting with what was already working well. The Indian team in WC2003 went to the finals, so whatever the composition of that team was, it was definitely good. There was no real need to play around with it except for including and grooming a few youngsters from time to time.

Australia does not make their openers bat down the order or something silly like that. I don't know why Chappell felt the need to push Tendulkar to third slot and make a mess out of his batting form.

Very sorry to hear from Mr. Gavaskar
by sharma manish on Apr 22, 2007 08:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It's indeed hurting to hear such comments from Mr. Gavaskar. He should first have seen that in a team where Saurav, Tendulkar, Sehwag and WALL (yes...Dravid the PAPER WALL).. the highest run makers are present still India couldn't get even into Super 8's. WELL then its not because of a Coach but surely because of the poor performance (especially the 2 brothers Sehwag/Dravid the "PAPER WALL") which has ruined the indian cricket.

I have no complaints with Tendulkar and Ganguly because they infact have played well for a very longtime of their carrier.

are you talking about Dravid, he is the only person playing well for past 4 to 5 years. I think you are very new to cricket or you did not watch the matches.

The paper wall made the 60 runs in the Srilanka match. Rahul is more conscientious and hard working than either Tendulkar or Ganguly whether you like it or not.

Tendulkar bats like a 10am-5pm goverment employee. Rahul is much more professional and not an emotional idiot like Ganguly was, throwing tantrums when things did not work his way.

What RESULT GREG-DRAVID GAVE US IN LAST 18 Months?
by Rahul Roy on Apr 22, 2007 08:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

GAVASKAR IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. THE FACT OF INDIAN CRICKET IN LAST 18 MONTHS IS

First round exit in WC, First round exit in Champions Trophy, defeat against WI, Pakistan & SA.

Why we were out of Champions trophy in the first round as well? We had young team, world most successful & intelligent Captain Mr.Rahul Dravid and the best strategist Guru Greg Chappell?
Only in India we sack our most successful captain after a series win while the captain scored a ton in his last test innings. But we keep our captain (and probably our coach too if he wanted to stay) after such a measurable performance in world cup, champions trophy and so on%u2026.....

BRING BACK GANGULY IMMIDIATELY TO SAVE INDIAN CRICKET

Andrew Walkin,

What a sick mind you have!

Every person has a right to an opinion and if they are to be countered by the way you have, then I think you have no reverence for your mother, sister, daughter and the whole women folk all around the world.

Additionally, the subject matter that you have chosen to type gives me the impression that your thoughts can never rise higher than your pelvic region.

These comments are coming from a person who once opened the innings in world cup ODI and scored 36 in 60 overs and still was not out. What can a coach do if the players are thinking about endorsements and bigbucks all the time or seeing if beauties are eyeing them so that their evenings may be 'RANGEEN" .Tendulkar, Dhoni, Bhajji, Dravid, Ganguly,Sehwag, Agarkar etc can't even face BD or SL who are ranked way below them and do not have any superstars--- whose players are paid by the boards and their incomes a miniscule of what our greats get. What did Chappel do--- ask them to throw their wickets or bowl badly? Coach simply hones the skills, not turn technically incompetents like MSD or VS into Bradmans. Coach simply along with captain and team members chalk out a strategy and make action plans if one plan fails--- do you think Chappel asked them to commit HARA-KIRI in the field. Even John Wright once became physical with VS for not obeying simple rules and acting flashy and for showing off.. OK if Gavaskar is appointed coach does he ensure that it will be a balanced team and not team Mumbai in the garb of team India? Does he guarantee that 2011 or 2015 WC will be bagged by India. And what about his views about Tendulkar/Ganguly/Dravid/VS retiring ages or they will continue to be passengers with wearing leadboots in the fields. Gentlemen it is very easy to say that my comitment and attitude is total for the team while all you can do is score against the low class minnows. Gavaskar should instead come out openly about inducting fresh blood into the team instead of waiting for his proteges to crack more records over the next few years. Do not blame Chappel, instead blame the AKARKHAN BILLIONAIRES of team India--- shunt a few of them, cap on their ads and you'll see the results.
