I think the problem was that Chappell tried experimenting with what was already working well. The Indian team in WC2003 went to the finals, so whatever the composition of that team was, it was definitely good. There was no real need to play around with it except for including and grooming a few youngsters from time to time.

Australia does not make their openers bat down the order or something silly like that. I don't know why Chappell felt the need to push Tendulkar to third slot and make a mess out of his batting form.
