Gavaskar and his rants
by Vimal Kansal on Apr 23, 2007 05:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There goes this stinking mouth again! As long as Greg Chappel was in India, this snake called 'Gavaskar' was hiding and the moment Greg is outside this country, he is spitting venome. Gavaskar has all along been the greatest scourge of Indian cricket. When he was a player he was responsible for playing politics with the likes of Bedi, Mohinder Amarnath and Kapil Dev. Now again he is at it. Insatead of putting blame squarely on coach, why don't we read anything from him questioning the attitude of some ofthe players. Despite Tendulkar's consistent failures, let alone, this world cup, he had been asking Tendulkar to keep playing till WC 2011. Why can't he question Tendulkar? Was Greg wrong in questioning Tendulakr's attitude when despite repeated advise and instructions from the coach, Tendulkar did not want to play at any position other than opener? Shouldn't a player of Tendulkar's stature be willing to do anything for the team? Then the attitude of this guy called 'Sehwag'. It was reported in press that on one specific occasion during one test match in recently concluded test series in SA, one day before the day Sehwag was supposed to bat, Sehwag asked Greg to come to the nets in the morning at 6 am to get some practice. While Greg turned up with his assistant, our own beloved 'Veeru' was sleeping with his wife and later on when asked by Greg, he just replied with casualness 'I did not feel like it'. So what is wrong if Greg has questioned the attitude of these senior players. Why can't we just accept the fact that these are a bunch of spoiled brats who have been spoiled by too much money and the prostitutes of Bollywood (or shall I call Brothelwood).

And in the end, to the likes of Gavaskar and his stooges : now that our rotten political cricket system has gotten rid of Greg, can somebody show the enough guts and take charge and promise to the nation that 'come what may, when we go down under this year, we will win a series'

You got to be blind if you can't see what damage likes of Tendulkar and Gavaskar are bringing to Indian cricket. You go back and collect all the innings that Tendulkar has played in last 3-4 years, sum the number of runs he has scored and divide them by the number of innings. That way you will get the average number of runs scored by him. Don't show up on this forum if it is less than 50

Vimal Kansal is perfectly right. Gavaskal played till he was literally booted and booed out of Indian cricket. Tendulkar is another Gavaskar in the making. Even his own state booed him when he played in Bombay sometime ago. Can't he see the writing on the wall? He has a couple of restaurants I am told. The head chef's position will do him some good. Gavaskar knows better to stuff foreign currency in his club locker than commenting on cricket. In fact, rediff should not publish articles of Gavaskar on it's site.

Vimal, you have made a shame of yourself by making the above statement. Before teachin me average calculation you should have come back with it that is readily available on cricinfo. Secondly it goes to show how cricket illiterate you are since even the greatest of the great players donot have 50 average in ODIs. Thirdly if you have little bit of shame left by making the above comment go and suicide for writing against the national gems called Sachin and Sunny and ponder what your mother state has contributed towards the country in cricket till date..loser

Sunny has a reason to react..

He has been bitten badly by Ricky's comments pre-worldcup. He has been waiting to lauch to one australian or another. Atleast it sounds like that. Why would not he chastise his protege, aka Tendulkar, for the team's performance? Sunny risks becoming below average character on cricketing world. You see Austrlians saying good things about Tendulkar and so forth, does it come from their heart? It's part of the sports diplomacy. The moment one crosses the line, it's hard to come back in.

What about a snake that slipped into the hotel somehow? that some guest have had with him? I think the investigators must act prudently and avoid any leaks. In hindsight, the security and survilence at the hotel should have been far better than it turned out to be. In america , a shop lifter or a bank robber gets caught so easily by survilence footages. Is it unresonable to expect that to happen in a hi-profile incident that happened in a luxury hotel. There can also be a tendency on Malcom-speed and co's part to tarnish sub continent's reputation in this episode (like there is any left already :)

Come on Sunny... You are a habitual baiter.. What is your contribution to the game (except your selfish records)? John and Greg atleast showed some results. You did nothing precious.. If you think that Greg has failed, why didnt you use your "influence" with the BCCI and become the Indian Coach?

Sunny should be kicked out of India
by SANTOSH KUMAR S on Apr 23, 2007 05:07 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is an open truth that all the senior players did not perform to their ability. These money hungry players need not be told on how to bat or bowl. All these players should be thrown out of Indian Cricket and send to some attitude correction center along with Sunny.

well said Ashok,

that reminds me the Indian crab story again.

We must be proud atleast Sunny gives his view for the blunder BCCI is about to make, as former cricketer, captain of India he has every right to advice BCCI or question, its afterall good for Indian cricket. Dont compare this comments to other - view at their merits.

The coach like Greg Chapel should be kicked out.

After repeated failiure in mini world cup and world cup he has no right to say anything. It is very surprising that the board offered him the post of consultant of the National Cricket Academy. What is logic behind it. it seems that some cutmoney is involved in the process. If chapel is appointed as consultant, the darkest day of indian cricket is very near. Then the team like Bermuda can defeat India very easily.

that Greg Chappell was a misfit to the indian players although he had the backing of the admins. It's also clear imitating Aussie system without alteration will backfire if players/admins/supporters dont subsribe. India and its fans should be happy with home grown coaches who will let the stars rule the roost. So the team will have batters and some mediocre bowlers but poor fielding overall.

let's be very clear. Unless they improve the substandard pitches by not going through Kanpur Green park way nothing will happen. They have been telling that they will change the pitches for ever.

Also GC is correct about Yuvraj -that he thinks he is a star.

Afterall team india should be models not cricketers.

AT least someone is talking unlike others who just want to take care of themselves.

the whole team is saying the same thing...apart from Dravid....

now BCCI joining hands with Dravid....made him new captain.Decline is not over yet.....

iF BCCI would have removed dravid as captian...given it to yuvraj.......we still had a chance of team unit....atleast 10 united people and dravid....

now they are trying to get new players....keeping sehwag...yuvraj...zaheer......i hope these three dont perform.....there is no way india can win in bangladesh....

The underarm ball and the hurried experimentalist
by Gajanan Mohite on Apr 23, 2007 04:51 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

When Greg advised his brother Trevor to ball a underam ball versus New Zealand, it revealed , the man, his aptitude for madness and desperateness. The Indian selectors should have thought twice before selecting Greg Chapell. He has been a captain and would not like to take , a second line in coaching as well as decision making. It is just like a cat gone milkless for years and suddenly it tastes milk and recollects the joy it had in tasting milk and then lo behold it starts meeowing again. This meeowing must have caused all the problems. The selectors should think many times before selecting a coach. A low profile coach would be better or if a high profile coach is appointed then go for young players with only the captain as the senior player. There will be problems if an Indian coach is appointed. He will be biased with regional affliations making its rounds. Why not appoint an Indian coach , with no say in selections. Well, they may not agree as it firmly clips the power. If a good player agrees to this then go for this arrangement.

Please take Gavaskar to the nut house for God's sake
by Saptarshi Ray on Apr 23, 2007 04:48 AM  Permalink

Sunil Gavaskar just can't stop putting his foot in his mouth... or should it be that he just can't seem to take it out. The fall from grace has none the less been spectacular and has provided a new source of entertainment for Australian media and that of the rest of the cricket loving world. Once an admired batsman and respected commentator, Sunny has now taken on a full time role in concocting viscious stories about all things Australian. Before the world cup even began he suggested that the Australian team members may be knocked out dead in a pub (insulting the late David Hookes) for arrogant behaviour.... we all know now why the Aussies have a right to brag. And now Sunny thinks Greg will bring the future of Aussie cricket down because he might head up the National Australian Cricket Academy.....

Sunny please don't hold your breath for it to happen... or else you may choke on your own venom.... take your foot out of your mouth and go an settle down in an old folk's home.
