Good article and Dravid's demerits
by Janmejay Singh Tanwar on Apr 04, 2007 10:59 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I remember one of the first matches when Dravid was made captain, he asked anil kumble to bowl 4th over against Afridi, it was then and there i told to myself that Indian think tank has gone to drains. Believe me defending 190 against Bangladesh was achievable. We lost because of poor captaincy, i hope people remember the funny slip placements and introduction of the 5th bowler well after the 30th over, sachin sehwag came very late. There are hundreds of such examples where Dravid simply F#@$ed up. He is a great player but not all greats become great captains. He is a great orthodox cricketer and he captains the same way, no adaptation to situations. He is not agressive and does not back players enough, obviously the team disintegrates in such situations. Players start to play for their own good rather than a team's cause. People are blaming ganguly for scoring selfishly but tell me, if he started accelerating and got out early, wouldn't he be dropped immediately by Mr. Chappel. These insecurities killed our 2007 campaign, and the team managemnt especially Dravid and Chappel are to be blamed for it. I saw it coming in 2005, i don't understand how Mr. Missed it, ah probably he was busy with his agriculture ministry. That reminds me .... shouldn't we abandon this honorary sytem and make crucial positions like President and Selectors as Paid positions so these people can be held accountable for debacles....

Nope. I dont agree. Rahul is an astute captain in the wrong team.
Whats wrong in asking Kumble to bowl the 4th over?
Did not Newzealand have a spinner as their opening bowler ?

Dravid is a gentleman in the wrong team. Poor Dravid.

some players delieberatley palyed negative cricket and betryed team and and dtiched dravid.and betrayed team. If players are not ready to support team cause what capatain can do for that It is up to individual players to deciede that play for team then support captain?
ganguly wasted more balls than runs he scored poor fielding and poor running wkt and unwilling to take singles cost more runs to team also created pressure on batsman on other side He did not bother to try and hold an easy catch during agarkar%u2019s bowling he costs more rruns to team by poor fielding
ganguly inngis is shaky. He w 60 runs in 130 balls how it can help a team cause?? Ganguly had one stage for having batted through nearly 11 overs to make a mere 7 runs.
Yuvraj Scored 47 runs in 10 overs India Scored 191 in 50 overs
Ganguly Scored 66 runs in 21 overs wasted more balls than runs he scored.,
Yuvraj Scored 47 runs in 10 overs
Rest of team scored 50 in 19 overs
Against burmada Ganguly scored 89 in 114 balls wasted 25 balls that is around 4.6 runs per over... compare it to the indian teams average of 8.26
Ganguly was struggling while batting against burmuda, and got 3 lifes
ganguly in whole faced 266 balls nearly 50 overs and make only 162 runs, the how much pressure built on incoming bats man doesn't matter india wins or Lose
Ganguly RETURN WAS HYPED BY MEDIA BUT HE WAS NOT IN TEAM UNIFROM ALSO AND HE DID NOT ARRIVE WITH TEAM?? The picute which tev channel shown after ind defeat in Sl . all players were in tears but no sight of ganguly dhoni and harbajan
Ganguly was not in pictue?
Harbajan singh went wktless in 2 matches
dhoni failed with bat was laughing when he dro[[ed catch
VC captain sachin failed completely with bat ( there were not sight in picture which tv channel shown when India lost ot SL all other players are in tears

zahirkahn was wktless in firest match and in he took 2 wkts against SL but he gave more extra runs b'cuz of erratic bowling.

coz Tendulkar scored a duck, Ganguly 7 in 23 balls and Yuvraj 6? Dhoni 0?( match against srilanka) the players who played all 3 matchs Except dravid munaf yuvraj nobody has shown commitment?

Will targeting senior players like Ganguly, Sachin, Harbhajan do any favour to the WC first round exit of the Indian cricket team? Will your analysis do any good to the current state of our HYPED Indian cricket team. It's not a question of ditching by any individual, it's a collective loss and unfortunately the captain & coach has to take the responsibilty. If you talk of Dada's flaws then Mr. dependable can also not be spared of doing Ad for Samsung, Britania, Pepsi etc. etc. My personal opinion is Dravid may be a good player but don't have the qualities to be a able leader which is reflected in his body language. I think India stop experimenting with team as well as captainship. Now the ball is in the court of BCCI to decide the future of Indian cricket.

Boycott Cricket!!
by Bharat Kumar on Apr 04, 2007 10:52 AM  Permalink

My dear fellow countrymen,

I'm immensely happy and delighted that atleast now after the world cup debacle, my brethren and sisters have realised the follies of glorifying a particular sport at the cost of others. Here lies the real answer why India makes a poor show at the Olympics. Kabbadi and Hockey(our national games) have taken a back-seat. Women are seldom given recognition(Bobby George,Sania Nehwal) and a host of others. Why are other sports being neglected? Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Table-tennis, Boxing, Gymnastics leave alone other exciting track and field events. We waste our time, effort and money in watching stupid cricket, hoping that India Blue will win but all they deserve is to be hit black and blue. And for God's sake my other idiot patriots who wish to sack Chappel. Our Management insisted on his presence. He is the best and we had the best coach. Now if a school student flunks in academics, it would be silly to throw out the principal. Our team members failed to do their home-work. The experimentations of Greg Chappel indeed prove that you can't make horses out of wild ass.I salute the coach who had this undaunting task of drilling a major hole in the political careers of many a member of the Indian cricket team.

Blame Game
by AIMS on Apr 04, 2007 10:50 AM  Permalink

Its so normal across our country to keep throwing mud at eachother and alwaays blame the other........

Mr. Chappel has shown a lot of attitude day 1 and his underarm bowling advice showed his character long back...he should not have been appointed as a coach

Our dear politicians and BCCI - please create larger infrastructure for various sports - we have one of the largest population but very little is converted to excellence --- with our population we can have 50 teams and we are struggling for one

let us make cricket a profession and not a hobby as it is perceived today by our team - look at australia, they have perfected the art

rather than wasting time on this lost battle gear up to meet the next one

visualise tendulkar as the coach for the next world cup and create the force

what we have also been lacking all the time is focus and teamwork - lets prove it next time

selfish seniors
by Anil Singhal on Apr 04, 2007 10:48 AM  Permalink

It is really surprising to see the comments of senior players like Sachin castigating Chappel. I would like to ask:

a) What is the great service these people have done to the country. In fact, they should feel the otherway that the country has given them the chance to represent for such long years. Even if they have done service, they have done it at a huge personal profit and not free. Probably, such words like service to nation etc. were fine in older generation when there was little money in Cricket.

b) Is it not a fact that most seniors behave in a certain peculiar way and that is when other members are failing they see it as an oppurtunity to boost their prospects by slowly building up their ining even at the cost of the result of the match. The batting patern in past many matches would corroborate this. In contrast, many other teams in such eventuality senior players see such situations to establish them as match winners for the country.

c) What is the use of abusing Chappel? knowing his callibre he can easily find an alternative job? But what about our senior players who earn hundred of crores through Advts.?

Upside Down Planning
by Sonali Agarwal on Apr 04, 2007 10:47 AM  Permalink

Hi

Let me bring some funny aspects. We do have age wise teams in India and people rarely get a chance to be noticed once they are beyond an age say 24. Its difficult to make into India Team beyond 25 if its not a come back
2 Coaching policies: We do have funny local coaches at times. I remember a person in our college who used to turn the ball so much that Muttiah Muralitharan was impressed when he came to play a local match. In the same match Murali bowled a lot the our poor guy was only given 2 overs and he got a wicket or so but discontinued. He told me that his coach asked him to bowl medium pace and later he lost his gift of spinning the ball
3. Look at streets we have good people playing there. I remember a 12 year old boy in Bangalore. He used to get late swing with express pace of his age. He lives in the police quaters, catch him young, he will be 14 now
5. Over emphasis on seniors: Look at history every Indian cricketer past 34 was a joke ( Exception Amarnath) It happened for Gavaskar, Kapil, Vishwanath, Shasthri. I remember Shastri struggling to tim,e the ball in SA and Kapil bowling wides in Hero Cup. So lets understand that we start young and leave young and Indian living standards will not give the endurance of a Western Life

Where India went wrong................. Simple Answer
by Hari pn on Apr 04, 2007 10:44 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Simple..... Senior players want to make big records for themselves scoring against Bengladesh/Bermuda and come to highlight. Even after winning toss, they went for Batting first. All are eying for opening slot becuase they want to build records for themselves not for INDIAN WIN.

Why then experienced players are fighting for opening slot, when they have not came to Indian Team as Opener?

Why are they shying batting down under?

Simple - They are afraid, they may not get chance to score a Century to put into RECORD BOOK.

Dravid is too weak
by abhijeet nandy on Apr 04, 2007 10:41 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Chappell claims that senior palyers pressurized Dravid to take wrong decisions and so we lost against Bangladesh. DRAVID is the CAPTAIN. if he can't take his own decision, then whats the use of him being the captain. Today he was presuurized allegedly by Sachin and Saurav. Tomorrow it will Chappell. Lameduck Captain? Why we need such a spineless captain who can't take his own decisions???

RE:Dravid is too weak
by Suvendu Sahoo on Apr 04, 2007 11:30 AM  Permalink
Hey Mr Abhijeet, if everyone goes against one, that person can't do anything. Players like Tendulkar is useless right now. He very well knows he is of no use. But he is in the team for his past performance. People are not blind. They have been watching Tendulkar's performance for the last few years. His last century in a test match is about 2 years before. Isn't showing his lack of form? But Tendulkar is now fully money-minded. I guarantee you if he would be in Australlia team, he ould be thrown out of team many years before. In our country noone has that much ability to say something against him. So he is playing. And consider about Ganguly. How was his performance during the period 2000-2005. He was thinking himself as a king. He was only the placeholder at that time. At that time the success was because of Dravid, Yuvraj, Kaif, Shehwag, Harbhajan, Zaheer. But now noone of them are performing to their ability. We have got some respect from overseas because of Dravid's performance. if you see the tests we won on foreign tour during Ganguly's captaincy, that's because of Dravid's performance. Most of the time he rescued us from disaster. He has also scored more than 10,000 runs in one-day cricket. In test he is sort of 800 short of 10,000. He is a gift to india team. In most important matches and matches against great teams he is the only player performing. Match against SL in this world cup is a best example. The great test win against Australlia in Kolkata, that's because of Dravid and Laxman. But we are saying that because of Ganguly. But we have remembered the century of Tendulkar against Australlia in Sarjah. And he dedicated that century to his wife. If you see Tendulkar's performance, most of the century's are against minnows. And the century against better teams are in sub-continent pitches. But I am not favourite of any single player. I love my India team. But now everyone is saying against Dravid, so I can't sallow that. Tendulkar is in the team for his past performance and Ganguly for his success in captaincy. But if you think of Dravid, he is also no less to them. He was also doing very good captaincy till west indies tour, because our team was winning. But after that, shehwag lost his momentum, tendulkar is below average. In 30 matches he scores a good score. Dhoni is out of form. Pathan lost his form. Harbhajan is playing just as a gully cricketer. If every player is not doing well, what a captain can do. Can ganguly win matches? Be practical. Australlia has thrown the players like Mark and Steve waugh after seeing their decrease in performance. If you look all the test match wins in overseas in Dravid's career, that's because of great contribution from Dravid. But we are always ignoring him Please respect him. From my point of view, he is the best player from India till now. Dravid is reliable, rock, the wall. Without that much support, he is performing till now. But compare the support for Tendulkar and Ganguly. But what they are doing right now. Look the performances of Tendulkar for last few years. He is trying to make us fool. Ganguly was also thrown out of team because of his performance for 4 years. Not for politics. You can also look at the performance of him during that period. Just think the wellness of Indian team. Not support individually for the past experience, on the basis of region. When India wins, we are bcoming happy. If India looses and Tendulkar scored a century, we are not feeling well. Belive Dravid is best.
