Our exit from WC is due to poor batting, bowling & fielding by Bermuda in CRUCIAL match against BANGLADESH.

Thank God, India's out of Cup

There's a brighter side to India's exit from the World Cup. Something that can cheer up disappointed fans and angry advertisers. Sri Lanka has done a great favour to Indian economy by ousting the cricket team from the World Cup. There are about 80 million cable and satellite viewing homes in India.

According to TAM ratings, the average viewership of all World Cup matches held till now stands at about 3%, with India vs Bangladesh touching a high of 7.25%. To reach the finals, India would have played at least seven more matches.

Considering a TV Rating of 7.25%, at least 5.8 million people would have watched the match. This would have resulted in a productivity loss of 371.2 million man hours (5.8 million x 8 hours x 8 matches), apart from stress faced by mothers during exams.

About 3% of 81 million TV viewers (2.4 million) were ardent cricket fans and would have sat through all eight hours in the remaining 28 matches. Thus overall, Indian team's ouster would result in a productivity gain of 481 million man hours of work ( 28x2.4x8 man hours), if put to use.

The Sri Lankans have given a boost to the Indian economy by saving 54,902 man hours of work (one year = 8,761 hours). Indians can build seven phases of the Golden Quadrilateral connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai spread over 5,846 kilometres all over again, with this time saved.

A daily wage skilled labourer in Delhi earns Rs 17 per hour. If put to productive use, the 481 million man hours can produce Rs 817 crore of GDP, which is 63% more than BCCI's annual revenues of Rs 500 crore, last year. It's 401% more than the Rs 163 crore losses, corporate India has predicted to incur due India's ouster.

The state electricity boards are also thanking Sri Lanka for the great favour. A TV consumes 45 watts per hour. Assuming a viewer will now switch off his TV by 12 midnight, it will save Rs 135 watts at least per viewer (not considering the electricity consumed by other appliances running simultaneously.)

This will save the electricity boards 324 million watts of electricity ( 3.24 lakh kilowatts) in just 28 days. According to estimates, SEB losses in India will touch Rs 1 lakh crore by 2008.

If disappointed viewers completely switch off their TVs for eight hours, it will save the government at least 8,64,000 kilowatts, along with many more lives %u2014 at least three Indian citizens have been reported to die due to cardiac arrest or suicide after India's defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka.

INDIAN TEAM
by ASIM MEHTANI on Mar 31, 2007 03:04 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

READER'S COMMENTS, EXPERTS COLUMNS ARE CENTRALIZED ONLY ON ONE ISSUE I.E SACHIN TENDULKAR. NO BODY IS BOTHERED ABOUT INDIA. IT SEEMS TENDULKAR IS GREATER THAN INDIA. WHETHER YOU ALL GUYS WANT INDIA TO WIN OR TENDULKAR TO PERFORM ONLY. THEREFORE, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE ISSUE SO CENTRALIZED ON ONE MAN, RATHER TO CONCENTRATE ON TO FIND OUT THE SHORTCOMINGS OF THE INDIAN TEAM, AND RECTIFY THOSE SHORTCOMINGS IMMEDIATLEY. IF THE SITUATION DEMANDS TENDULKAR'S EXPULSION, THAT HARD DECISION ALSO HAS TO BE TAKEN FOR THE SAKE OF THE COUNTRY, AS NO BODY IS GREATER THAN THE COUNTRY. FURTHERMORE, CAPTAIN ALSO HAD TO TAKE THE MORAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORLD CUP DEBACLE. THE WHOLE INDIAN TEAM WAS LOOKING TIRED ON THE GROUND. THE QUESTION IS NOT OF WINNING OR LOSING, WHICH ARE THE PART OF THE GAME. THE BURNING QUESTION IS THE WAY THE INDIAN TEAM HAD LOST. THE BODY LANGUAGE OF EVERY PLAYERS WERE NEGATIVE. NO BODY SEEMED TO FIGHT TO DRAG OUT INDIA FROM THE DIFFICULT SITUATION. ATLEAST THEY SHOULD HAVE TRIED, BUT THAT WAS NOT THERE. THE CAPTAIN TOTALLY FAILED TO MOTIVATE THE TEAM. THERE WERE NO CO ORDINATION BETWEEN THE SENIOR PLAYERS, AND ALSO BETWEEN PRESENT CAPATAIN AND EX CAPTAINS. THE TEAM WAS FULL OF ANARCHY. CERTAIN DECISIONS WERE ALSO TAKEN BY THE CAPTAIN, WHICH WENT AGAINST US. THEREFORE, THE TIME HAS COME TO REVIEW THE WHOLE INDIAN TEAM, AND THE HARD DECISIONS HAS TO BE TAKEN AS PER THE DEMANDING SITUATION, WHETHER THE SAME HURTS ANYBODY'S SENTIMENTS, IT HARDLY MATTERS, WHAT MATTER IS WHOLE INDIA, AND NOBODY IS GREATER THAN THE COUNTRY.

Ganguly inherited a battered team torn
by match fixing controversies which even Sachin refused to lead.
He hand picked players like Yuvraj,
Kaif, Nehra, Balaji, Zaheer, Harbhajan.
He insisted Sreenath to stay on.
He made effective use of Kumble
Laxman in suitable situations and
pitches.
Even Dravid was a very shaky and
slow one day player.
Gangly protected him from being
dropped and lost.
He even made him to keep wicket
just to justify his place in the team.
Dravid Chappel from day one started
disturbing the rythm of the Indian team.
The team hand picked by Ganguly fetched
initial good results for Dravid also.
As time passed by the entire enthusiasm
evaporated.
Everybody became shaky.
None was sure about his position.
All suffered from identity crisis.
Pathan was destroyed in the process.
So many mistakes they have committed
it would be another Mahabharat.
Only foolish regional robots would disagree
with me.

Ganguly used his limited strength brilliantly.

He knew how to get what from his team mates.
He used his brain in field setting ball changing.
He is the most intelligent of them all.
He encouraged everybody to perform.
Dravid is no no way near Ganguly,
you must admit today after the debacle.
Only fools can deny the importance of
the captain.

How come all players playing under Ganguly
are suddenly failing?
It is either due to sabotage by the coach
or incompetence of the captain or both.

The following coversation I recorded
from Indian dressing room in Jamaica.

Chappel- What Rahul?
Rahul- Saurav was making faces to me
while fielding at long on.
Chappel-When?
Rahul-In the Lanka match.
Chappel-What did you do then?
Rahul-I complained to Sachin.
Chappel-What did Sachin do?

Rahul- He started ducking.
Chappel- why? There was no bouncer.
You people were fielding.
Rahul- No No No he was adjusting two or
three little things which he normally
does frequently while batting.
Strangely he is doing it while
fielding also now a days.
Suddenly he starts doing sit ups in the field.
He calls it ball adjustment.

Chappel-Okay! I shall try that me also.
Any way, What did you do then , Dear?

Rahul-I told Yuvi.
Chappel- What did he do?
Rahul-He also made face to me.

Chappel-Oh no! Call them both.

Chappel-Saurav, why did you make
face to Rahul?
Surav- Me? Making face? To Rahul? Why?
I don't need to do that. The entire
country is doing that.
Rahul- No, he did it.
Saurav- I dont know what is he talking
about but can tell you I make faces mainly
for some reasons.no
1.To adjust my contact lenses
2. to remove disturbing flies around
my face, 3-----
Chappel- Okay please stop.Yuvi what is
your reason?
Yuvi- Me making face?
No No I do it all the time. It is my habit.

Chappel- you are so complaining Rahul.
You complained a lot against Saurav
when I joined the team first.
It is the root of all the problems.
Go and be magnanimous.
You are the Captain.
Behave like that.

Dada to Jugs - Jaggu Uncle, they dropped me from the team

Jaggu Uncle - uh-oh, I have too many of my own problems, beta. I have milked the cricket cow for as much as it is worth. Now its time for me to enjoy it. You go talk to the new pres.
Saurav running to Sp - Uncle, I want to play. these boys aren't taking me in the side.
SP Why not?
Dada - cos I am scared of bouncers. I keep getting out. The problem is this happens only with big countries. Against Ecuador and Congo and Namibia and UAE I am always in form.
SP - So, how can I get you in if you keep getting out?
Dada - I have an idea. I will never get out. I wont take singles so that way I can never get run out. I will just play and play. People can't kick me out bcos I never got out.

SP - But wouldn't that be playing against Dravid? Dravid won so many games for you. When you got out so easily in both the innings against Aus, he scored. When you got scared in the game in Nagpur against Aus, he bravely captained. When you were on the verge of losing the previous WC, tendulkar hit a rich vein of form to take you till the finals when all you scored was 3, 107 (as usual against Kenya), 112 (against Namibia), 24, 24, 48, 8, 9, 19

Dada - Yeah but who cares?

SP - who cares? I don't. Anyway, nobody does You can be in the team.
