How many could have been accomodted in 10 minute walk?
by satyarthi on Apr 17, 2008 07:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The route for the torch relay was too short to accomodate more stars. Those who were likely to be discarded suddenly became torch bearer for Tibetian's cause.

Stark reality
by Ninja Kirgi on Apr 17, 2008 06:30 PM  Permalink

India is still a baby infront of Chinese dragon. Our government knows this and doesn't want to make Chinese angry. There is no use fighting if you know you cannot win.
Giving inspiring speeches and talking of honor and shame is all fine. But if you are publicly humiliated all those talks of honor will go down the drain and public will make fun of you. You think in today's world anybody will help a weakling?
India has been badly humiliated once in 1962. There is no need for a repetition of that.

This US and UK are creating so much noise about TIBET and human rights abuse by China in TIBET.
Tibetans are fighting here for more than 50 years and this is not visible to them so far. Few days back only ,these people came to know of this and started their protest. Beware of these Western Opportunistically Countries. They always create problem between two neighbors and ensure that both of them get killed in the fight.

Even though you are right, it is in India's favor to keep burning this issue indirectly. Otherwise these Chinese will jump here and there.

TIBETANS GET YOUR TIBET FREE AND GO BACK HOME
by cuzo on Apr 17, 2008 05:43 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The indian govt has given the tibetans schedule tribe status and now all the tibetans have occupied almost all the govt jobs in places like Sikkim and Darjeeling and many other Indian cities creating a socio economic disbalance in these areas.
They should get their Tibet free as soon as possible and all go there for once and all...but then will they leave their comfortable life in India for the stark harsh realities of their land ???

How about one lakh or so people can have all the jobs in several states?

This is India's interest to support Tibetan cause.

Are you Tibetan are schedule tribe status in india.I know they are refugees here. As far as I know no tibetans are working in GOI otherwise today we might see lots of them in South Block and north bloc as they are smart people.... you can find them in Wall street, seattle, trade union, silicon vallley in USA. I am sure you are mistaken. Support Tibet.

Good Job

Every country in d world should not under any country's torque or conquer. It's absolute ridiculous job carried out by the chinese govt killing innocent monks/people/children in Tibet because of asking freedom for their Nation. Everyone should raise the support to tibetan, who's fighting for their rights.. We did our fight nearly 60 years back with british govt. That time none of the people hv supported us except some asian countries...

This time we deeply support our neighbour country, and skipping off olympic torch rally is a nice way to express our support the tibetan who's fighting for the rights in tibet.. Also it will give more attention to all over the world people about this issue..
Regards, Shanmugam

Supporting tibet's right to protest is all fine...please remember, this could backfire big time on us...I dont think we should embarass a billion chinese. We plan to the host the common-wealth games soon...i'd like to know what our response would be if the Kashmiris start protesting or the people of assam, nagaland and manipur show dissent? Also, there is no real justification for this, there are other peaceful and not so peaceful independence movements going across the world which no one cares for or takes up...the tibetian cause all of a sudden takes center stage because the leader of the tibetian people is also a media rock star and hugely popular with the US, also the media likes to project tibet with its old world romanticsm.THERE IS no doubt that the Tibetan people are entitled to rule their own country, to nurture their unique culture, to promote their religious institutions and to prevent foreign settlers from submerging them. But are not the Kurds in Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria entitled to the same? The inhabitants of Western Sahara, whose territory is occupied by Morocco? The Basques in Spain? The Corsicans off the coast of France? And the list is long.
Why do the world's media adopt one independence struggle, but often cynically ignore another independence struggle? What makes the blood of one Tibetan redder than the blood of a thousand Africans in East Congo? What then causes the International Media to discriminate?I support the tibetans but not ready to join demos.

Hi keith pavlak
just want to share my thoughts...

Tibet had been a free country until it was overrun by china around 1950s.

It wasn't the case with kashmir (it was added to india & pak from earlier rulers during and after partition with british approval) or assam wherein the local people enjoy all the freedom and democracy(unlike today tibet wherein its more of ethnic cleansing)

And tibet is closer to india where, being a part of china is not good for india.

We cant do a thing about Congo or any other country, but this is something thats of importance to our security and its being truthful to the tibetans as well...

still, india is fearful of china, and it does not have a stand of its own.

we have given asylum to tibetans but we cant take a strong stand against chinese oppresion. thats the fact at the moment...
