I am wondering whether "we" can form a group to support the promising stars. If each of us contribute 50 to 100 dollars per year, that by itself will add up to a significant amount to support . 1) Anup Sridhar and 2) SEPT kids who did an excellent job in their Europe soccer tournaments are excellent promise we should consider for supporting

Sorry Sridhar.. You are in the right sport but in teh wrong country. India is one sport nation. Even if we perform patherically all the money is only for cricket.

I have an idea.. why don't we all here in the rediff forum make our mark by contributing something for Sridhar. Lets start with whatever we can. For all that you know Sridhar will be our next hero. We cannot particiapte in policitcs to make a difference and instead of just writing our thoughts this is an excellent opportunity for us to show we can chagne things.. what do you say guys

So u r saying that by changing SHRIDHAR's fate by our contribution, u r helping INDIA CHANGED???
Come on man, what r u saying??? Do u know how a country is made or changed???
IF U WANT TO INDIA OR URSELF...BE TRUE TO URSELF FIRST...I'm not pin pointing anybody.
I want to change INDIA, by HELPING CHILDREN's EDUCATION, POOR's HOSPITALS...that's it.

Vikas, I have to disagree with you..If Anup Sridhar gets the support he deserve, espcially financially, that will lead lot of kids to take up sports as their profession. Once they start excelling in it, they will get more support from industries and people. Its like a chain reactin. This create several opportunities in future. Sports can eventually be a great industry by itself. If encouraged well, sports can even eradicate poverty. And this is an area where our country is doing so poorly.

He is asking for sponsorships and you people are talking abaout charity. I don't think Sridhar will like to take the amount from a charity fund.

may be if we as common people step up and do smthng a corporate might actually come forward to help Sridhar....let's 1st help and then decide the difference b/w charity & sponsorship.

I think Rediff should set up a mechanism where we can contribute small and big amounts for the cause of our neglected but promising sportspersons and help them overcome their costs .

Excellent idea and a good suggesstion! Lets make it happen if Rediff can provide a payment gateway to such contributions...The proverbial small drops makes a big ocean will help such budding sportsmen.

simple - lets send our contributions via cheque drawn to Anup Sridhar & post it to his office in SKL software, bangalore.

Hi Ramayya,
I liked ur suggeston and support u. I also wanted that rediff moderator read ur suggestion so I reported abuse against ur message. This way ur message must be read and if really rediff wants and can help us collect money for Shridhar then it will be great thing achived by us. I apologize to Ramayya for not seeking his consent before doing this. ATTN TO REDIFF MODERATOR:Please do not hide Ramayya's message because I have logged abuse just to get ur attendtion. Thanks and Regards Zulfikar Ali
sponsorship comes with the popularity of the game, the audience type and the achievement. No doubt Sridhar's achievement is significant, but it is just the beginning. Gopichand died an early death of his career.. there r lot of examples. More importantly Badminton is not as audience friendly sports as tennis or cricket. How many people love to watch badminton on TV? All these come before a sponsor comes. You guys need to be aware that sponsors are not donors, they will invest only when they get return. In India, media cries foul and shouts like beggers for sponsors.. If any achievement means sponsorship, why forget our kabadi, kho kho players? They are world champions!!
RE:why cry foul

True sponsorship is no charity, and populatiry of the game can increase only if there are many stars like Anup Drishar come up. Spectator friendly is all about perception, in China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia badminton is very popular adn draws lots of crowd, but the same in India is just better thab being pathetic, because of our obsession with cricket and clebrity status. A player can be made into a brand only if he can attain success and if success needs to be acheived then there needs to be fash flow to push them, unfortunately Badminton in India is cash strapped though we have stars like Anup, Saina, Chetan Anand, Arvind Bhat and others they cant get exposure and match the international stars due to lack of support system. It is not that these players are asking money for their whims and fancies, but for working hard to get laurels to country. So i would suggest introspect before commenting.
