The lopsided caste-based Reservations are the root cause of the ruckus where vote banks and vote power politics ruled the day.
The shocking pictures of the attacks by the jealous Gujjars & the threats by the Meenas and their show of aggression and the violence, clearly depicts their typically "tribal" characteristics.
Rajasthan Me Aarak-shan Ki Aag http://www.rajasthanpatrika.com/reservation/1.htm
Rediff, why were there no news updates from you till this evening?
Akhil Bharatiya Gujjar Vikas Sanghatan has called for Delhi Bandh tomorrow (Monday).
Gujjar leader Colonel (retd) Kirori Singh Bhainsala, who had said there would be no further talks, after the fifth round failed, has agreed to meet CM Vasundhara Raje once again for talks. Hopefully both sides will try and defuse the alarming situation; as the caste cauldron in Rajasthan remained largely incident-free today (Sunday).
There are reports that CM Raje has agreed to pay Rs 5 lakhs for each Dead Gujjar. She may give in to the Gujjars (just or unjust) demands it seems. She may even let some Meenas step down if they really want to, and let them go.
What she needs to do is present both groups with a choice between hegemony and harmony.
But she also needs to explicitly let them know that the Indian Nation, not her State nor any other State, can ever be held to ransom by lumpen elements, and their political goons to dominate and call the shots.
Those -- Tribals and Wannabe Tribals -- who broke the law, hurt inhumanly their fellow men and their livelihoods, damaged private and public property for their own selfish reasons must be punished severely. That is, and should be, the most civil thing to do.
Put them behind bars. Now. They have done no good and much harm.
Anybody who expects that, since the NSA has been implemented, the morning after will be the same as the day before, are wrong...and sadly mistaken.
This spark can ignite the country.
Mr Shreekant Joshi, below, has made some keen observations and lighted up the path ahead with very pertinent pointers.
Please Rediff, the public debates here are too often obsessed with the bogeymen of the past. I urge you to work with all the powers at your command to evolve the much-needed consensus. Sixty years have already been wasted by vested interests. Fifty years ago the divide and rule policies should have been reviewed and purged out of our democratic system on grounds of social justice. That would have been true "affirmative action" on this sub-continent. Not the sort of stuff the Arjun Singh and others have been touting.
Strike while the iron is hot, Rediff. Rise and Shine.
Progress will be real when only the really marginalised people are given the opportunities for upliftment. Peace may then just about return.

The cause of the violent uprising is said to be the shooting of one young Gujar girl and her mother along with one Gujar constable who had refused to shoot the girl and her mother when ordered by his superior Meena Police Officer who in General Dyer like action in Jalian Wala Bagh in Amritsar went on to do this despicable murder of three Gujar lives. Right thing for the Govt. to do is to take stern action against this police officer and bring him to justice and at the same time hold high level CBI enquiry to get the facts of the situation clearly brought out. Would any one support this murder leading to uncalled for communal disturbance when the two communities have been living in peace all along.

U r right!
Everyone should be given equal status.Indian system is killing middle class and minoirty people in the name of quota. No state is happy over the issue of reservation.
a clash between gujjars and meenas over reservation issue, brings out the worst fears of india divided on caste grounds due to reservation policy. the reservation policy is more about vote banks rather than a genuine attempt of uplifting the deprived castes. if that was the intention, then the 'creamy layers' would have been left out of reservation, as they are no more deprived. why are the politicians pandering to caste politics? this is because the way we elect our representatives. india has a first past the post system of election, in which a candidate who gets more votes than opponents is elected. his/her victory is not broad based, or even majority based out of the total electorate. therefore it is possible to become elected by concentrating of select vote banks like castes, therefore castes have to be won over by all kinds of promises, including reservation. this is what is increasing the caste politics in india and weakening democratic traditions which care for only the vote banks. when caste issues are predominant, ideology, economics and development agenda takes a back seat, as it is castes rather than development which is the winning formula to clinch and hang on to power. what can be done before it is too late? indian citizens must ask for electoral reforms, like preferential votes, or even proportional representation to break the stranglhold of casteist politics in india. then the politicians will stop divisive policies like reservation and avert such wars.

who will you ask for electoral reforms etc? how are you going to achieve this? think and tell me if you've found the answer.

caste based policies have seen emergence of caste, and region based political parties, who wield power which is disproportionately hihger than their actual strength. the tail wags to dog, NDA dog was wagged by its Telgu Desam tail, and UPA is being dictated to by DMK. These regional parties have a regional rather than a national agenda, and a pan india development is not what intereste them, but winning over their local opponents. Fortuantely, india still has a few all india national parties, namely congress and BJP, though they may be little smaller in some states. i would like to believe that the left too is driven by ideology, rather than castes. if these all india parties do not take up electoral reforms seriously, soon they will find themselves being further eroded, caste based parties will take their place, and india will really be divided. Consider, in the south, Congress has no chance in tamilnadu, BJP has already surrendered UP, this pattern will follow in less developed state. so before it is too late for them, we hope that the all india mainstream parties should come together to bury their differences over this issue of electoral reforms at least. we citizens can try to build a citizen's movement in this direction, taking help of our vibrant student community also.

not surprised at all. this was bound to happen. the yadavs too were not BCs initially. they fought and got it. like them a number of other castes too, realising the enormous benefits in being downgraded. and if you think this will all pass peacefully, you r mistaken. more classes will now fight for downgradation. we may soon have SC/ST, most backward, more backward, backward, OBC, a little forward, more forward, very forward class etc. etc. Long live India and Indian politicians.

Take my word....within in next 10-20 years or even lesser India would be divided once again. And this time into many parts. Alternatively it would be ruled by Talibani Islamists just the way we were ruled by them for 1000 years. That time they were able to rule us because we were divided on cast lines and this time again it would happne for the same reason. Actualy its inbuilt in Hinduism...kill your on brothers and get thrashed by outsiders

mr.anant raj, u echo my views, i have written the same for too long on this site.not a single person has commented on this issue of india going to pieces, i appreciate ur concern and hope this feeling percolates to all sections of the society.only then we can develop a true india of our dreams.
This fight is now like a Ransom. How can a community take a state to Ransom.Where is Law and Order for people who are suffering from this Stir. Strict 'No', 'No' if the fight goes on. Sit down and then talk. Constitution has not given rights to take arms against demands!!Supreme Court--R u There?

If you realistically talk about Violent & National Loss, then amount of total loss by gurjars agitation is less much less than the petrol bill ministers' vehicles in a rajsthan state only. They all are identified , do whatever you can.

I believe that reservation should be for only those people who have faced untouchability. The economic bakcwardness cannot be a criteria as entire India barring few is poor

exactly. mr.shyam. hats off to u. i have always written that only harijansie, sc are eligible for reservation. that is the 18% reservation. the SO CALLED OBC IS A POLITICAL GIMICK AND A FRAUD ON THE NATION, DEVELOPED IN TAMIL NADU BY THE DMK/DK COMBINE AND SPREAD ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.it is m nothibng but the grabbing of places by the dominant castes in the respective states.eco reservation is not for us, as the entire country is poor.good thoughts sir.
