Those -- Tribals and Wannabe Tribals -- who broke the law, hurt inhumanly their fellow men and their livelihoods, damaged private and public property for their own selfish reasons must be punished severely. That is, and should be, the most civil thing to do.
Put them behind bars. Now. They have done no good and much harm.
Anybody who expects that, since the NSA has been implemented, the morning after will be the same as the day before, are wrong...and sadly mistaken.
This spark can ignite the country.

Please Rediff, the public debates here are too often obsessed with the bogeymen of the past. I urge you to work with all the powers at your command to evolve the much-needed consensus. Sixty years have already been wasted by vested interests. Fifty years ago the divide and rule policies should have been reviewed and purged out of our democratic system on grounds of social justice. That would have been true "affirmative action" on this sub-continent. Not the sort of stuff the Arjun Singh and others have been touting.

Progress will be real when only the really marginalised people are given the opportunities for upliftment. Peace may then just about return.
