You must be below begger capability. There is no connection between Sachin and Vijay Tendulkar. It is okay if you don't like his work but you can not write like this once he is dead. You are "S"imply "W"eird

ghashiram
by pradeep vijayakar on May 20, 2008 09:37 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I failed to understand why the late Tendulkar never gave credit to the writer of the original Ghashiram Kotwal, Moroba Cannoba Vijayakar, whose book carries appreciation by the British rulers of Bombay at that time.
When my father Khanderao Vamanrao Vijayakar wrote to Tendulkar asking about this he told him he had based his play in the introduction to Vijayakar's play written by N.R.Phatak.
I wonder who will really appreciate the nuances of the original Ghashiram Kotwal writtten by my forefather

Pradeep Vijayakar

The genius of Indian playwriting
by nadia sani on May 19, 2008 10:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The first of Vijay Tendulkar's plays I saw was way back in 1968 as when in school - Shantata Court Calu Ahe. It was brilliant, dramatic and forceful.

The man was a genius, all India should mourn this loss. Why doesn't Rediff run a coulumn on Indian theatre and on Indian books? Surely a little education between quarrelsome articles concerning the religious divide and comunalism would benefit the readers more.

Rediff Censorship???
by Bharat Prashar on May 19, 2008 07:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is well known that Vijay Tendulkar claimed that if he could lay his hands on a gun he "would shoot Narendra Modi", the Gujarat chief. Regardless of the the merits or otherwise of his urge to do so it was really surprising that Tendulkar was not charged with incitement to violence. What is even more disappointing is that rediff.com has decided to censor this information although other papers and websites seem not to suffer from the same dilemmas.

what is the use of digging up whether tendulkar was pro-congress or any other nonsense? can't we ever EVER see things without our own senseless biases? can't we ever appreciate a play or a written word or a film without getting to its political roots? it is this very segregation-led mindset that has led to the downfall of our country. we were always divided, and the british merely took advantage of it.

bash PuLa for his brahmanical humour, call mf hussain a traitor, unearth tendulkar's leftist links...destroy all art that lives for art's sake. and then be happy that everyone is the same. exact copies of everyone else.

forget it. you people have no appreciation for art.
