Governors must act in consonance with the dignity of the people of the state they represent.
by on May 10, 2008 02:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In the case of West Bengal the Governor, Gopalkrishna Gandhi, has done exactly that.

He has shown sympathy with the Kolkatans who
have been suffering from widespread power-cuts
ever since the Commie rule.

Hats off to you Gov !

May your tribe increase.

Power situation in Bengal
by Biplab on May 09, 2008 10:22 PM  Permalink

Basically I am from rural area of Bengal. I have seen lot of improvement in power sector in Bengal in last 10 years. In 80s, early 90s power situation in Bengal was horrible, power cut was there for hours. But situation was changed when Jyoti Basu made Sankar Sen (Jadavpur University VC and an electrical engineer) as power minister in 1991. Then power transmission, new power plants and other improvements have been done. He made so many sub stations in rural areas and low voltage problem, power cut have been solved tremendrously which were main problems in village area. Therefore, in last 10 years power situation got improved a lot which I noticed in my village area also, thanks to Sankar Sen.

I have stayed Bangalore, New Delhi and power situation is just horrible there, can?t be compared with Kolkata. In last 3-4 months some power cuts are in Bengal, but I don?t know why. Because in recent days new power plants have come up already. But what Governor is doing that is totally politics, unwanted. I wonder his knowledge about constitutional right.

Facist face of CPIM is once again visible
by Tathagata Mukherjee on May 09, 2008 08:07 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Facist CPIM always worried about moral authority.

CPIM has no way to deal with these acts.

Its same what China is doing in Tibet.

Shame.

Simplicity of West Bengal Governor
by mailme alladin on May 09, 2008 07:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

He's trying to show simplicity in life at wrong place. In term's of simplicity in life he cannot beat the CPM leaders - not even opposition leader for that matter in West Bengal.
See the life style that most of the CPM ministers in West bengal lead. Even Mamata Banerjee's life style is very simple even when she a central minister.

Let the governor learn the simple life style from these leaders befor trying to show off some thing.

Have you checked the accomdation and fleet of cars given to Mr. Jyoti Basu from taxpayers' money?
Mr. CM too is a chain smoker and probably expense for his daily smokes is more than his monthly salary!

WB Governor is doing active politics
by mailme alladin on May 09, 2008 07:26 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Governor's Post is supposed to be non-political. But this grandson of Gandhi is doing active politics. Every state in India had, has, will have power cut. If Gandhi's nati is really concerened about people of West Bengal, he should not have occupied the luxlury Raj Bhavan from day one since he has been made Governor. He's acting like an opposition leader first on Nandigram issue and now before this powe cut. If he's really so much interested in active politics, why not he quits governor's post and contest the elction against CPM.

If Governor ji were to be in some other state, then seeing the condition of electricity there, I fear he would have to ask the board to remove the power connections from his home!

Yes, the power condition in Calcutta is far better than most other states in India. I lived in Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata. Kolkata's power condition is far better than all these cities in recent past. Probably 10 years back the power situation in West Bengal was really bad.
The governor is too political.
