Valmik Thapar...next name comes to my mind is Billy Arjan Singh, Belinda Wright who have made a lot of fame etc riding piggy back on the plight of tigers, but they have been able to give precious little back to the India Tiger & wildlife in General. I have sent 18 years of my life in the Forests of North Bengal due to my business and have had the experience of coming accross a number of common India Wild Life e.g. Elephants, Barking Deer, Wild Boars etc. Tiger? Yes once only. I have seen how grossly mismanaged & Corrupt are the Govt agencies who are supposed to look after the forests & protect the wild life. They are grossly underpaid, ill trained, lazy, de-motivated bunch. I cannot say that I am a wild life lover or expert, but there was a time when I knew the Forest as well as the forest dewellers. Feel very frustrated when I see crores & crores of money is pumped in the name of saving the India Tiger and no results are seen. No body is accountable. You will see Senior/ Middle level Forest officials riding comfortable SUV's with red lights/ beacons fitted on them, which should by all means fitted on their backside. The high ranking officials just do not know the ground reality and this is the curse all over India. Then you have the useless NGO's who also make money on the side. A few honestly have done a splendid job, but they are as rare as the Indian Tiger. The prevailing Law is toothless. I've had a candid discussion with a lot of Sr Forest Officials, who have off the re

Typical of indian mentality on part of Rediff

I have been typing a couple of messages regarding the scientific implications of tiger extinction and chinese animal cruelty albeit with humor regarding Tiger penis soup which is a delicacy in china which is the main cause of tiger poaching but my messages are branded as abuse messages even before I can complete the posting

SHOWS THE WONDERFUL INDIAN BRAIN REGARDING GLOBAL ISSUES,

tiger Extinct, India loses pride
by Sharang Managoli on May 06, 2008 01:31 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If tiger will be extinct, then India will lose a major iconic symbol, the eaquation is as simple as that.
about 80% Forest officials are corrupt and that's why tiger killing is so easy for poachers. Countries like China have demand for Tiger parts for their traditional medicines, which I think is totally meaningless, and indian poachers are simply killing Tigers to provide CHina and neighbors with what they need.
Strict punishment should be imposed on Poachers. In the past a poacher name Sansar chand was captured with more than 1000 animal Skins and was kept in prison for 10- 20 days. Such law will encourage poaching even further.
Please save the Tiger.

if the Tiger goes, we all go. Its a dark and harsh truth we must face and save the ecology of the jungle. India has been traditionally the keeper of Nature inherited in its culture and that is depleting today at a fast pace. Tiger is the symbolic king of the majesty of Nature and of the ecosystem. We will all perish without warning if we do not accept this and act now.
There are various simple measures that can help save the jungles and the Tiger. Each one of us has to act now. More than Pakistan or China or whoever, we are faced by the greatest threat of writing our own destruction.

make that "We will all perish WITH a warning" Poaching rates are a huge warning that something worst is about to happen.
