The writer is quite close to the basic reality. Prolonging poverty is biggest threat to Hindu society. Hindus have been under attack from various quarters. The opinion leaders in Hindu samaj (society) must realise this threat. They should think fast and act fast.
As many have pointed out, there are two key reasons Indian poor have remained poor.
Fatalism and Tolerance (due to our passive religion and culture), which are the virtues of our harmonious society (despite such poverty, the society is still civil and not erupting into violence), are also a SIGNIFICANT CAUSE for lack of vision and development in our society.
Our CHALTA HAI attitude causes us to be tolerant towards our enemies (both within - read corrupt and criminal people - and outside of our country.
Our CHALTA HAI attitude does not let us take charge of our destiny in our own hands and SCIENTIFICALLY DEVELOP our society.
Our CHALTA HAI attitude also causes us not to be CIVIC MINDED and ENGAGE IN THE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
Though these are strengths in adverse times, they are also our biggest stumbling blocks. The poor are taken advantage of, and they believe they do not have right to ASSERT THEMSELVES. Though our constitution affords us equal rights, the POOR DO NOT BELIEVE THEY HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS and they are not aware of such a thing as our CONSTITUTION. They do not FULL COMPREHEND the structure of a political society.
It is due to this passive culture, we work in a CONSERVATION MODE all the time (we make do with what we have) instead of working in a DEVELOPMENT MODE (produce more to get rid of the scarcity).
We need to get more assertive as a people and work together.
"The rich are so rich. The Indian economy is booming but the money was not really getting down to the poor and the difference in the world between the rich and the poor was phenomenal" this is the most dangerous thing that is going to happen in India! we should carefully analyse why the radical parties are getting stronger hold among the poor educated people. Arvind clearly points out the real reason.

if you look like lalu and want to marry aishwarya its ur problem not a problem of the society.
last year my french friend visited me in Chennai and she was surprised to see poors in front of BEsant Nagar beach and passed this comment it s great ur religion. There s something in it. People are poor but so polite unlike poors in brazil or latin american countries. I accepted it as a graceful comment but reality pinches and pinches. Europeans rose because they invaded other continents. They learnt with their experinces. We indians are discovering the same stuff wat they discovered 400 years ago. HOw many of us know about other cultures like latin american or african. they observed and conserved their adventure in books to help future generations. wwe did nothing except writing novels that too fictional like Vikram baital and Raja bhog. They wrote novels about india and the mentality of our grand parents and so their future generations are cashing on it. same with every civilization as the history tells. Indians were invaded time and again. we are submissive culture or may be its the property of this land Bharat mata. now Many still think family is more important than country so they fuck whole country to rise.
How many big innovations come from india since 18th century till date. We are living a post colonial era and its a phase that has to pass and will give birth to another era. LEt s think how india would be after 5 years. no benchmark. we forget things very easily. it sin our blood

ashok, in one way u r wrong... actually europe, mainly british, translates most of all our ancient scientific-mathametics sanskrit books into english and they took the credit. actually now we are rediscovering our own grand fathers/mothers's discoveries.

Hahahah....listen to this...brits translated sanskrit books and look what they discovered...they found india discovered ZERO long time back and then they found that India is still a big ZERO now as well...this is the truth we indians are idiot, shameless, full of rotten values called indian culture, very very lethargic and bunch of cowards...and caste system has contributed it all.Ancient indian books are junk good to be thrown in garbage..dont teach your kids about fictions and false scriptures written by idiots who only cared about there so called superiority...its not going to yield anything.Learn from west from America...learn from them what hardwork, commitment, sicereity is.Then come and talk here.Thank you
survives because of beliefe in karma theory. Poor believe that it is due to their bad karma that they are poor, that is why by and large they remain well behaved so as to achieve good karma to earn wealth in next life. Belief in karma is good for India, imagine all of Indians becoming rational, once they become rational they will realise poverty is man-made and when they find there are no jobs, no way out of poverty, they will resort to violence.
India wud have been better off without Independence..say under UK...probably we wud hv been a developed nation long time back....If u say no look at the poor...look at the "Q" in front of "Whites only" countries...so Nehru until Indira Gandhi did nothing for the poor or economy..Beat your chest, shout on top of your voices that's the fact..& when British left thieves came to politics & their kith n kin continue the same tradition of power & corruption..shame on us & probably British wud have kept us together as a nation with one language ...
