Guys the Quality of policing depends upon the Quality of interest in local democracy by citizens...
by QandA on Mar 12, 2008 08:46 PM  Permalink

I have since years being championing this cause..

a) A police commisioner post by definition is corrupt not the humnan being who is exercising it. Any powerful position by definition is corrupt in DEMOCRACY.. Now how should we do a check on that...

b) Lets scienctifically analuze the situation in foreign countries.. They have easily SOLVED this problem... Here it goes...

c) A Police commissioner is appointed by the Cheif Minister and State Govermner officials. This LINK HAS TO BE BROKEN. In foreign countries Police Commissioners are ELECTED BY THE CITIZENS...

d)Finally no human being should be allowed to get elected as a PM for more than 2 terms. Each Term of PM should be just for 2 years..

f)PC is an admin post and it need not be occupied by an active duty experienced Police officer..

If PC is controlled by people, then People can force Investigations on the Politicians... Kam Khalas...

Our whole country would be a different country if people demand this simple change in democracy..

By the way I have another "PRACTICAL" tricks as to how handle the COURT cases on politicians...

I will disclose those at another time...

Foreigners get killed every now and then. they are raped, harassed, molested, murdered. its a matter of pride for India and the indians. but thats ok. it is understood that the indians are sex starved. there is nothing anyone can do to change their mentallity. but what i dont understand is inspite of all these yet the foreigners keep coming here. arent they warned by their respective governments before they apply for the visa. they are also to be blamed for not doing their homework.

what should be they warned about?
a) about politicians who will go to any extent to cover the crimes?
b) about people who will make the same criminals elected represententatives again?
c) about the police who don't have any other option than go by politician's dictats?

Remember, Indians also go to other countries (I have been one of them) and they don't get discriminated, because the law there sees everyone on their soil with the same vision.

Absolutely correct... Only when the tourists stop thronging the forts of Rajasthan, the beaches of Goa and the govt loses all the tourism money(not to mention the loss of face in the world)will the govt wake up to the issue. But then it takes decades to build an image and only a few such incidents to destroy it. So by the time the govt finally wakes up, there wont be anything else to do.And to be honest I really feel that we are heading towards such a "well deserved"fate only

You are absolutely right, Maya!

Most of Bihar's population is the result of such incidents which don't even raise an eyebrow let alone make the news in India anymore!

Media has seriously damaged the reputation of Goa by giving this incident this unwarranted coverage!

Why don't they report when similar incidents happen in Bihar?

Two things will happen:
(1) The media will have its hands full;
(2) The media will not have hands for long!

LOL!!

It is we who boost ourselves with our 'superior culture'.......in the same culture an unarmed 15 year old girl has been raped and murdered. And this will make an international headline for obvious reasons. International tourists want to know IS INDIA SAFE ? Is Indian justice worth a penny ?

No one outside India would care for millions of Indian women dying inside India since it is internal matter of India and but not THIS where whole country's reputation and justice is at stake.

The Police are Capable .... Of Doing Anything For Money

The police in our country are capable of doing anything for money.

Committed a Murder ... No problem we will show it as suicide or accident, pay us a few lakhs.

Duaughter Committed Suicide ... We think you murdered her, as she was having affair, with boy you did not like ..Ready to believe you, pay us Rs 1 lakh.

Daughters Body ... Sorry we can give only after 3 days ... OK will give it today, pay Rs 15,000.

Every situation they know, how to extract money from helpless people ... Unfortunately citizens do not fight and everyone contributes to the bribes.

Goto Google or Rediff, search "YouPayToo" as one word and learn, how even YOU contibute to their bribes.

While it is well known that the police and judicial system in India is not above corruption, the fact that a 15 year old girl was alone with strangers in a foreign land is a reflection of the decay in the social system of the west. All will agree that a 15 year old girl doing alcohol and drugs after midnight would not be spared by anti-socials in any country of the world, including England. Also, such cases are quite frequent in India, as reported in tiny newspaper columns, and it is sad that the media comes out in full force only when the victim is a citizen of another country and white skinned. Finally, to all my fellow Indians residing abroad, before bad mouthing the Indian police, politicians and the whole country in general, please take a statistical look at the rapes and murders occurring in your foster home countries, with special reference to the offence to convictions rates and compare them with India, before making such sweeping statements which shows India in bad light.

You think about this man .......... Indian men prefer VIRGIN brides in this day and age so why will a hindu family report it to police and make it public ??? Kya unka dimag kharab hai ? And only 3% of rapes in India is REPORTED. India has highest rapes in the world possibly.

RAPE STATISTICS

#1 United States: 89,110
#2 South Africa: 53,008
#3 Canada: 24,049
#4 Australia: 15,630
#5 India: 15,468

It is in India that you have to be ASHAMED TO BE RAPED not in the west where it is most often reported without guilt.

lagta hai tuney indian policia danda nahi khaya .

Nandu...You have good experience...Police ka danda.....:) But I agree with the statistics and information. But at the same time you have to look into other side of the coin. Few woman go to police by giving false complient saying she was asked to sleep, tried to rape......Conclusion: Behind every problem there is a WOMAN.

You appear a little dated in your perception. Many surveys show that Indian men no longer consider virginity a must...please read up. As regards morality, read whay the USA governor was up to recently. Admittedly, the reported rapes in India as lower than in USA, but Americans who do not want virgins for brides (as per your info) do manage to rape also. American policia danda is also active... just check youtube for videos of police brutality in USA and Europe.

Very True. Atleast the police is now accepting it as a possible homicide and investigating it even though the girl was know to be a drug addict and raoming past well after midnight. Look what has happened in the case murder of students here who mostly abide by the law , zero progress.

The british lady should be punished.
by Dhananjay Kumar on Mar 12, 2008 08:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This lady, showing so much concern about her dead daughter, should be punished as well. If, as per Indian law, the deceased was a minor, why on earth her mother had left her alone at the hotel near Anjuna. On top of that this mother was planning a trip to some island leaving her daughter in the hands of drug dealers. She should have been concerned for daughter that time only.
Besides, these are the people who come to Goa and ask for drugs. They are more responsible for incidents like this and others (like road accidents) which occur under influence of drugs and alcohol.

We are making a lot of noise about a 15 year old foreign girl's death. Is this so as she was an off-shore person? As few mails reflect, she was on the wrong side of law by all means - being a minor & prefering a stranger male as company, under the influence of drug and above all, her irresponsible mother leaving her daughter alone. Now, the parent is trying to blackmail Indian Police.

Some of the messages seem to tell that they are out to cleanse the Indian system - what are they doing about periodical shoot-outs of medicos in American Varsity Campusus? Who is making any noise about these deaths? Are their parents not feeling dejected & depressed?

Atleast this girl was just 15 years and law-breaker by every sense of word, while our Indian students are all medicos. How much financial burden their families have to bear?
All these self-professing saints who denigrade Indian Police in this isolated case, extend their helping hands?
More than financial loss, how about the vacuum those boys left in their parents' lives? Who cares for their emotional deprivement? Have our TV channals covered so much extensively these deaths as they do for this worthless and silly girl?

Its all because of negative publicity by electrnoic media, who have no worthy subject to cover. The mushrooming growth of TV channals compels them to run around for any and every insignificant happening to magnify and keep repeating the visuals for 4 to 5 hours. How important a news item is or if

hundreds of cases like this are kept under wraps in india.either due to police ineptness or because of courruption..unless police men are not kicked out of their jobs for deriliction of duty in such cases , there is no remedy.
only the fear of loosing the job might make them work.
