Chinese Designs In The North East
by Ramchunder Maraj on Mar 14, 2008 02:45 AM  Permalink

A very sound solution for the above problem is to convene a meeting of as many editors of the various language newspapers as possible to apprise them of the Chinese designs on Indian territory so that they can inform their readers of this danger instead of concentrating on film stars and their personal lives.History will record that Indians were lulled into stupefaction by their inordinate interest in the shenanigans of film stars and emulating the "American way of life ".

Unbelievable!
by ACM on Mar 14, 2008 12:32 AM  Permalink

This gentleman's ideas are quite staggering! That the people of the north-east still want to be part of India is a tribute to their patience. The views expressed by Mr. Rijiju are however not uncommon. Bhupen Hazarika from the north east has mentioned similar thoughts before. It's a matter of shame for Indian politics that only people who make noise get noticed - the uglier the noise the more are the chances of getting noticed. The terrorists know it and make use of it to get what they want. The peaceful people of Arunachal and Assam miss out. So separatist movements are born. There should be a decentralized administration policy in the country divided on a zonal basis with higher levels of authority and money allocation powers. However, I'm not so sure about taking a confrontational stand regarding China. It's better to deal with this thru negotiations. If they do clandestine stuff, it's best to respond with clandestine measures as well - gentle reminder to come back to the negotiation tables.
It's highly imperative to have another Bangalore or Ahmedabad type commercial center developed the northeastern area. The commerce could be trade with the far eastern neighbors or even China. There should also be promotion of tourism related infrasturcture because that area is pristinely beautiful. Finally, english language skills in those parts should be leveraged by BPO type businesses.

It's high time that we learn from our past mistakes...!
by Makarand Barve on Mar 13, 2008 07:46 AM  Permalink

Right from independence, we are ignoring the security of our borders. If we don't protect our borders now, there would be numerous international issues with Pakistan and China later on and our country would keep loosing control of it's provinces. I congratulate Rediff for putting this article on the website and generating awareness about the issue.

Lack of infrastucture a shame then to call this land our own if action not taken soon.........
by shobana nair on Mar 11, 2008 09:13 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The infrastucture in these areas have to be build fast, people here should have the infrastucture putto place soon,no vague reasons has to be given to cover this up,as that would only mean inefficency of the authorities there to get the work for the people done.Any land belonging to this present day should be developed fast for the sake of the democracy there, there is man power and the economy now to avoid giving vague reasons in delaying the work of infrastucture work done there. The chinese it that part of the border have to be tamed, soon.Security matter is one issue and good trade relations with them other.

This is what lack of patriotism. Since 12 yrs no PM of india got time to vist arunachal and tawang? why No infrastructure developed and we wait till china fully developed on there side.

To complete now India has one options

Put in track more than 2,00,000 workers and start work from more than 500 locations.
complete daily 25 KM of roads,
Complete daily 15 KM of rail lines for immediate movement of troops.
china can move troops in 24 hrs and Indiain 120 Hrs i.e 5 days.

China is also planning to take mini military actions once olympics is over there in Beijing.
what the hell India will do that time, time is running out fast and still our 540 donkeys seating in parliament and after 62 wat hasn,t learned Lesson.

India needs to flex its muscles toughly.

by Sachin Loher on Mar 11, 2008 12:34 PM  Permalink

Thanks to Mr. Kiren and the reporter for bringing this to notice. I request media also to do some ve work for the country and strengthen the Nation. Please drop your Communist idiology and be Nationalist. Communist are harmful as they are pro-Chinese and can only do bad for the Nation.
