Indira Gandhi was so in love with Sam Maneckshaw and his blue eyes. She preferred to keep him close to her as she had weakness for the Parsi men. When Shaw was about to retire, Lt. General Jagjit Singh Aurora was next in line to be the General of Indian Army. Gen. Aurora was the real hero who created Bangladesh while Maneckshaw warmed Indira gandhi's bed in Delhi. Indira Gandhi extended Maneckshaw's tenure for a year denying General Aurora the opportunity to become the General. She later promoted Maneckshaw to the title of Field Marshall. General Aurora retired and served the country as MP, Rajyasabha.
We are the Badaga, Indigenious Community of the Nilgiri Hills, Tamilnadu. We revere in Noble People, Honest Ideas, Clear Mindset. I thank my People for giving Sam a great farewell, they lined up thousands, the entire stretch from Wellington to Ooty, we don't care for anything else.
PS: I know Jawaharlal and Indira would have been pretty screwed up by his towering presence though!
We need to give him very high remembrance after his name. Instead of giving very high remembrance to our politician (Gandhi family and other politics) we should give more respects to sir SAM type hero.
There is a mentioning of japanese attack in the Burmese border... Man, it was the army of Subash Chandra bose, called INA. I guess, the author think that we call him as a traitor! This is the very problem with india, we can't look the history as it was. We always write and read history in a biased manner. We hate our opponents for our mis-interpretation of history...

Okay so what you are saying is that "Sam Bahadur" was fighting for British India while Subash Chandra Bose's Indian National Army was fighting for the Japanese and attacked the British Indian Army on the Burmese border.

yes, i just wanted to show how biased our history is. I'm really wondering, why our national leaders are not letting us to learn the history rightly. I understand, it was his duty to fight for the army he belongs to. But, why the author has to conceal it? In france, they call look history squarely, when everybody prepares their own version of history, there is every chance, that the future generations may easily misguided. Can't you agree with me, that there are counter versions of Gandhi and nehru stories are roaming in the country. Why? Simple, we don't know the truth completely! We were just made to know, what we have to learn. For the open ended concealed truths, people closed it by their own theories. Sometimes those theories are deadly against of the very poeple's principles.
Sam Bahadur..,the bravest of 'em all..,whenever the word bravery will be defined it'd be synonymous with you, you're the rare pieces of army folklore who'd fight for its pride & die for its honour.
A true indian. We all should salute him. To get back this kind of National Hero, State governments should add a chapter on his life and achievements Of Sir General, Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw, in school curriculum. During this time India needs heros in all the areas. Jai Hind
For every political leader in India it should be made mandatory to study the History of India. What they learn out of it -- should be the assessment --- For having direction to the nation it is must. Will any body take some initiative in this direction?

there is an excellent opportunity for the govt to express our heartfelt gratitude to this all time great Field Marshal Sam Maneckshaw by giving his name to the new Bandra-Worli Sea Link Way. That way his name shall always be remembered by the generations to come! hope there is no politics at least about HIS name!
