We as a country are ashamed of what we could not do for what you rightly deserved. May be we have forgotten your courage and heroism, may be we are too busy in our meaningful lives that we forgot a great person has passed away.

SAM BAHADUR THE GREAT SODIER OF THE MEN AND OFFICERS
by TV KUMAR on Jun 29, 2008 11:33 AM  Permalink

As a young officer of the 1971 war my SALUTE is due to THE GREATEST GENERAL IN POST INDEPENDENCE ERA OF INDIA. It was his leadership that ably assisted by Army Commander Lt Gen JS Arora and his colleague corps commanders that paved the way for capture of biggest surrender in 93000 Pak soldiers after II World War in 1871. His ‘tete a tete’ with Indira Gandhi on timing of War is history well remembered by Indian soldiers and Defence Anaysts. It is unfortunate that any General (FIELD Marchal for that matter) has never been honored with Bharat Ratna in India unlike any other country of our magnitude and strength. SAM BAHADUR, 'the Gurkha' will always remain alive with Indian soldiers. Vinod Tuli

Soldiers are bred not born
by Pushkar Goswamy on Jun 29, 2008 08:43 AM  Permalink

To a Commander in Chief, Whose heroic actions led a nation to peace with its neighbors and valiantly died for the cause of humanity with its people who cherished him.

Sam Bahadur was from ordinairy background but grew in stature due to his own efforts in the forces & family to strike a balance with Politicians & Intellentsia which during those days still had some authenticity, unlike today.

A Soldiers farewell to arms, A noble & trusted ally who gave in to the cause of Humanity.
Fondly remembered & Always inspirational.

A Final Last Post to The Field Marshall that India ever produced.

From A Fellow at Arms.

Salute to our 'Great Son of India'
by padma ramani on Jun 29, 2008 12:38 AM  Permalink

India is fortunate to have such a great son, true hero, saviour, soldier and a person of many impossible achievements.
I was fortunate to be born in your 'ERA'.
Its sad we are truly missing you. You ensured during those dark hours,we slept peacefully, while you stood gaurding at the border.
Its so sad all our political leaders did not have time to come to pay the last respect.
Neverthless you are more precious to us than any of them.
I pray almighty for your soul to rest in peace.
I salute you,sir!

Farewell Sam
by ns girish on Jun 28, 2008 11:33 PM  Permalink

Farewell Sam. Your legend will live on. I salute you for what you are. It was a privilege having you in Indian Army. India was lucky to you Sam.

All these politicians cannot even hold a candle to you. They cannot even hope to something you did in your life. So ungrateful of them especially our so called president, Prathiba Patil. Really its her LUCK and India's BAD LUCK. Being the commander in chief of armed forces, she can't make time for you. What else can we from a person who became president for her services to Gandhi family?

Jai Hind,
Girish

Salute o a Hero
by v hari on Jun 28, 2008 08:49 PM  Permalink

Come on, fellow Indians, Let us salute this great hero. It is but rarely that such men walk the earth, lets create a record of sorts by paying the largest tribute ever to Sam Bahadur. I'll tell you all one instance which will speak volumes: The year was 1962, the Indian Army, following absolutely ridiculous orders and led by an uncouth Army Chief was in full retreat in the face of the advancing Chinese. Sam Manekshaw arrived at the scene to take chare of the North Eastern theatre of operations. His first words inspired a by then demoralized Army and NAtion at large to stand upto and give the enemy a bloody nose, which they did. His words were; GENTLEMEN, I HAVE ARRIVED. FROM NOW ON, THERE SHALL BE NO RETREAT, THE ONLY WAY IS FORWARD.

come on folks ,lets make this happen, send this to as many pple you know, lets make it a tribute and a prayer for him, for all to remember forever
