What Nonsense
by Humanvalue on Jun 12, 2008 04:46 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

A person from FIJI applies for a US citizenship. Why should the Indian gov. worry about that. There are pretty serious issues at home which need to handled than taking care of people like Maya Nand.

Maya Nand did not come to India from FIJI as a refugee ... he chose to go to US. We do not know why he was really imprisoned (the author chose to cover that up). Why should we worry about someone who sought refugee in the US and not in INDIA when driven out (using the author's words) from FIJI?

Oh I See. . .

You are a staunch believer in supporting only the pure born Indians.... do you also specify which age group should the parents have belonged to, and exactly how much DNA of Hindu / Muslim / or other Indian Constitution recognized religions should they have been having in their bloodstream BEFORE you will start thinking about doing some supporting research work with a view to making up your mind whether or not to begin helping those poor souls?...

:-)

Indian Navy to Fiji and Malaysia!! LOL!!
by Guest on Jun 12, 2008 04:33 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

To quote you 'An Indian naval battle group steaming into the Straits of Malacca or appearing off the coast of Fiji would send a strong message'. Get real! We can not protect our fishermen 5 miles from our coast and 300 of our fishermen have been killed by Sri Lankan Navy. How do you expect our Navy to go to FiJI in Pacific Ocean?

Yes, SURE... they may be some culprits but not all. You should make a point that they are just human beings.

Hindu or others. If they commit a crime they must be punished and not supported.I am a Hindu and a south indian. I can make a huge list of Hindu criminals both south and north indians. Should not they be punished? When you support people who commit crimes then you are one of them.

What I meant to say that there were lot tamil fishermen who used smuggle arms to SL, I am pretty sure some of them were innocent too.
It doesn't matter whether you are hindu or not, it is human suffering that matters...

Did he beat up his wife?
by manish rogi on Jun 12, 2008 04:27 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Act of domestic violence? Does the author care about detailing the charges? Was there any prior complaints? Without a lot more details it is difficult to start any movement.....

Yeah... you're right... .

Since he beat up his wife, he should have been unceremoniously killed ...

Serves him right, as General Dyer might have said...

Sad but true
by dasarathy rangarajan on Jun 12, 2008 04:26 AM  Permalink

Excellent article. There is just one reason that comes to my mind and that is India's lack of respect/value for human life. We see and hear hundreds of people drying everyday in India. Farmers committing suicide, actors mowing the foot path dwellers, politically connected killing their enemies and in addition to all that-death by hunger and starvation. With so many different types of injustice melted on to the people, we have become insensitive to a Maya Nand or Khem Singh. This has permeated to the highest level and now you see our government not reacting to bomb blasts and any other atrocities. I do not see any answer to this except hope that with time we evolve into a more sensitive nation.

Indian Diaspora
by Pradip Rabindranath on Jun 12, 2008 04:26 AM  Permalink

"Indians must demand a government that is proud of its nation and its people, and leaves no stone unturned in protecting its citizens and its Diaspora."

Well said, but I hope the Indian Diaspora begins to reciprocate the same sentiments about their mother-land. To many leaving the Indian shore is a trip to "greener pastures" and if ever their good-words about India from there are more but lip-service.

Rgds.

Indian democracry belongs to select few!
by Mayya Suresh on Jun 12, 2008 04:22 AM  Permalink

Take any issue, the ruling elite gives little importance to it. They mobilize the military when parliament is attacked. That mobilization even before they know who the perpetrators were. Come what may, innocent people in Mumbai, Hyderbad, Jaipur are killed, they are not moved. Although IB and RAW from time to time justify their bread and butter at tax payers expense from time to time by sounding some warnings which most people read and forget then and there.
While such an attitude persists towards people who directly elect them, what could you expect of them when it comes to Indian passport holders far away from their shores?

Another Excellent Article...
by Bhavesh nayak on Jun 12, 2008 04:14 AM  Permalink

Another excellent article rajiv, we need someone who thinks, writes, and creates awareness like you. It has always been indian mentality to think of myself and my family, to hell with my country, my community, my religion. There is hardly any unity to speak of and we are just easy targets.

We have lost pride in who we are and what we are...always having an inferiority complex compared to others....whatever happened to being proud of indianness and hindutva...People with no spine will always be looked upon and treated with inferiority.

Article
by Siddhartha Sanghi on Jun 12, 2008 04:13 AM  Permalink

Wonderful article! After a lot of time, Rediff has published such an article that can truly be mind-boggling and at the same time a motivator to do something.

However, I do appeal to the writer as well as the reader that illegal killings are much more common in India than any other country; forget USA. Everyone is familiar of the judicial system in India and its workings. If India visions to become the next superpower, the first and foremost that they need to achieve is a fair judiciary where a person can expect justice; not injustice.
