thanks to leaders like raju
by roy jose on Jun 12, 2008 11:16 AM  Permalink

thanks to leaders like raju and his predecessors, india is not really a unified country. there is a great divide between the east & west, north and south. people of different states behave with each other as though they are people belonging to different countries.

I was working in the Gulf a few years ago where the different depts. like sales, finance, mktg. etc. had bosses from different countries. except for the indian bosses, the other bosses treated their countrymen very well. The Indian bosses treated their own Indian staff like dirt and slaves. The Arab and European bosses were more sympathatic to their Indian staff than the Indian bosses to their India staff.

Something is deeply wrong with the Indian culture which we always harp about or maybe it is the 400 years of British rule that has made us hate each other but lick the foreigners' shoes. We have seen it in history. We have seen the movie 'Mangal Pande' wher we cud have easily got independence in 1857 but becoz of some Indian who leaked the news to the Brits, we had to wait for another 90 years to get independence.

Countries routinely abuse individuals ... no surprise there !
by john jackson on Jun 12, 2008 10:25 AM  Permalink

What Rajeev has written needs some thinking from the Indian est.

But these things need to be looked at critically by the individuals before venturing into "migration processes". Indian govt sorting out each & every case ... impossible to think of.

There is no need to go into North-South or Gujju-Bong divide while dealing with Indian diaspora. Indian govt of late seems to swing into action ... not all the times though.

Recently I heard one instance of an Indian flying out of Dubai to Australia on work permit. He was detained at the airport with the suspicion of a name similar to a crminal absconding. Most countries don't go by our passport numbers becoz every 5 years (now 10 years) we keep changing passports. On a mistaken identity, that gentleman was held for 3-months during which he lost his job, spent time in prison & had a mild heart attack. And indian govt did nothing. Authorities didn't even issue an apology saying it was a case of mistaken identity.

How about your pakis making amends to Bangladesh, Baluchis, Sindhis, Pashtoons and Shias for killing and raping millions of their people? How about you pakis apologizing and making amends to the Indians for your Gaznis, Ghoris, Baburs, Suris, Ghaznavis.... for invading, butchering, raping, converting 50 million Hindus, destrying thousands of their temples and building mosques on them and then finally breaking the country apart in 1947?

This is an issue of individual rights
by Dhruba Chakravarti on Jun 12, 2008 09:55 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In big city USA, passing Indians do not even look at each other. Why should it be a surprise that Maya Nanda would rot in a US prison? We have a number of pro- and anti-Indian/Pakistani activist groups in the US, but their goal is to hobnob with congressmen and senators. Who has time for the rights of individuals?

People, Stop thinking North, South, East, West. We all belong to one place as human beings and stop thinking that you are a Hindu, Muslim, christian,Sikh..etc. Instead of critisizing, do something constructive and feel good about it. After all, Life is short and have fun instead of fighting.

Interesting now that India is a Power we all look up
by Guest on Jun 12, 2008 06:53 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Being born in Fiji but having very close family ties in India, it is surprising that people now veiw India as a superpower to save them. When growing up we were scorned by our friends (and family) that we were visting India with comments like dirty and 3rd world enviroment.
Even to boot during the coups of 1987 India was told to butt out as it was the Fiji Indian's problem to solve. This comment was made by Indian politicians as they thought that Australia, NZ and Britain would save them. Now after 20 years when they have been scorned they go back for help. These same politicians of Indian Origin now are running to get Aid from 3rd world India. As they say Karma can bite you in the butt. In defence to those bought as slaves they could not keep in touch with relatives due to cost and literacy they never knew the beauty of India.
Remittances sent form abroad do not help the common folk as it goes into someones NRI bank. India has a duty to first uplift the quality of people who live there. Taxes are paid by people who live in India for the betterment of the Indian Society. The military and police should be concerned about issues on Indian soil.
According to US law, losing your green card allows you to be shipped back to your country of Birth not origin.

The Indian ( ? ) Dispora
by Rajiv Shivashankar on Jun 12, 2008 06:42 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Even today, is there one India. We speak a myriad of languages, the "majority" is split on the basis of caste, creed, language, region, reservations, and God knows what else. We are discriminated within our own countrry with governmental assistance to the discriminators, the government being the biggest. We see One India only on TV.
What can one expect from this Government, which sends its Prime Minister to count tigers in Sariska, and then helps poachers by transferring more of the poor animals to th eplace for routine slaughter? Bangladesh is exporting its population to India, hosting the HUJI and training/sending terrorists across the border with motives of destroying our society while we dabate on NDTV if these illegal immigrants should be sent back. Pakistan is fomenting trouble in Kashmir from 1947. China is developing Nepal as a platform against India. Our Left Bhais, Karat and Yechury take orders from the Reds, and do not allow thhhe country to develop, while the government looks on helplessly.
The Congress party, which once ruled the whole nation must accept responsibilty for this mess. Irresponsible politics and petty regionalism, coupled with diverging from the constitution ( amended at will by the Congress ) and alienation of the masses has led to this situation. If Modi ays he will run Gujarat without the help of the government of Dlehi, there is a reason. It is now for the central government to introspect, and not cry like Jaayanthi Natarajan, to find out the

No, Indian ppl must take the blame. If voting percentage is 40 out of them 20% muslims who do you think the polititians will listen to? the hindus should take the blame for the plight of its contry for being so naive. Even a right wing party like BJP has to go begging for votes to 20% minorities...that explains all.

Mr R Sreenivasan ..

What Indian Indian you are shouting ..there is nothing callled an INDIAN, what INDIAN means is people of mixed race to the western and african mind. Word INDIAN is a pejorative, to most White and Black Folks.

True name of INDIA is ARYAVRATA till the time true ARYANS are not recognized as the followers of vedic dharma, hindus and INDIAS are going to fight with each other, NORTH vs SOUTH, etc etc.

There is no hope in the use of word INDIAN/HINDU its a blemish, use of this word should be shunned in a most emphatic manner, it is derogatory. The use of word HINDU should be replaced by SANATAN DHARMA(or at least a constitutional equivalence established) and INDIA should be replaced by BHARATVARSHA or ARYAVRATA.

I agree, This whole word Indian is a big joke, it was made by the british, the real words are as above. The country was designed by Mountbatten, the real country is yet to emerge.

Why should a punjabi or a northie care for a malayalee ? simple as that.

who told you punjabis are northies, their flag of the sikhs hold the symbol of iranian flag.
Punjabis, Kashmiris are upper north india.
They eat meat and drink wine.

Sikhs are also an amalgamation of varios people, who came together to fight ISLAM. Now they have become like them. Today they are no different than muslims and whites in their tastes and behaviour.

As far as south indians are considered, I used to think with so many ancient temples in south atleast they have some faith in bhagavan. They are good people, but now I see all of them hankering after US visas and dollars. In the name of self respect they want to take the whole country towards atheism and be freind to the master demon america. India Inc is also party to it, whether north or south. Outside money has disturbed the whole social fabric of the country. Where ever this dirty dollar trade is happening it is all basxxtard money.

So, In todays India all the kans and ravans are ruling with their demon(abrahmic) freinds in the west and islam. SHAME SHAME.

I got no problems with south indians, who follow the vedic dharma, as they also value sanskrit and follow vedas and puranas as their granthas.

I dont know when will bhagavan come to kill all the meat eaters and wine drinkers, really i am waiting very badly for him/her/it to come.

Before pointing a finger at others ...
by Humanvalue on Jun 12, 2008 05:02 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The author is mostly incoherent and doesn't know what he is saying. The total crimes committed by the British in India is probably 1% of those committed by Aurangzeb. The way we treat out own countrymen is far worse than the way other countries treat Indian diaspora. Most of the indentured laborers that went to places like FIJI, Malaysia or the W.Indies are lower caste people (mostly SCs). Their lives are a lot better off than those SCs who stayed behind. The SC and ST populations of India are exploited not only by other castes but by their own people.
The rich and poor divide is becoming bigger everyday. There is a global food crisis, oil shortage and now fertilizer crisis. REAL serious problems!!! Why should any country bother about people who left it for (in their opinion) better options. The only time India comes to the mind of these people is when they are in trouble.

All good points, but slightly less coherent than what you perceive Rajeev's article to be.

Rich and poor divide exists in EVERY country. SC/STs exploited in India - so what? Every country has the downtrodden.
That doesn't stop them shouting (as rightly pointed out by Rajeev) at the top of their voices and extract damages.. (China against Japan etc.)
If your father shouts at you, doesn't mean that he is debarred from protecting you when local neighbourhood rowdies attack you.... Or maybe you don't want it to be set up that way?... ;-)

Go stew..
