What's your grouse against BJP? That they requested for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probing the deal?..

Shame on the LEFT who have proved to be traitors once again. We all know what motive left has behind all their opposition. I am sure their masters in Pakistan and China must be laughing at the way they have fooled the Indians. Down with the Commies and their cronies

They merely asked for a JPC before ratifying the deal...
You call that opposition?... :-)
Whereas the left which is technically a part of the government, categorically rejects it...
You obviously need to re-examine your understanding of the word "Oppose"..

Its not that only in India the prices of Food products have risen. In fact the real prices of food grains should be atleast 10 times higher than they are at present. Our Government spends 20-30 billion dollars every month to subsidise the price of Diesal and Petrol. Than our poor farmers use subsidised diesal to grow and transport the crops, and our Government foolishly sells this subsidised price food crops to Middle east at the lower rates. Cant we sell/export foodgrains at their actual price after taking the subsidised diesal prices into account, and than use that money to subsidise prices here for poor people. But politicians will never understand.

We are basically immature and cranky politicians with big egos and arrogant attitudes rule us.

We are normally 10-15 years late in most matters. It is our national trait.

It is not the just politician. It is the common man who will not stand up and support a fellow citizen who fights for the just cause. The society is corrupt. The administration is just a reflection of the society.

product of ignoring public consensus
by Michael Thomas on Jun 12, 2008 11:40 AM  Permalink

Well the powers that be didn't go for a public consensus when they should have...

the deal was done hush-hush and they are reaping the rewards of it now...

Why blame Indian democracy for that.. the idiots thought they could circumvent Indian people while the US senators/congress was kept informed...

the NRI people must take the blame for not opposing this tactic earlier...

if the deal dies because majority of Indian MP's don't back it, then it is right thing for India...

No problem.

Anti-nationals
by rajiv mahajan on Jun 12, 2008 11:40 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Congress is headed by a weak Prime Minister who has shown outstanding inability to lead his people. BJP has played politics with an issue which was of critical national interest. Leftists are proven anti-nationals. Posterity is not going to spare any of these anti-nationals for not taking advantage of a deal which all defence & economic strategists have advocated as being in the interest of the country. But then this is the cost we have to pay for a banana democracy we have.

If it were UK the government would have resigned already.

But our shameless politicians headed by that power-hungry lady are both power-hungry and money-hungry.

And the left is having the last laugh.

What an irony.

What a government.

What a spectacular exhibition of shamelessness by continuing in power when this wayward government has neither the mandate, nor the
majority.

Its own partners are continually blackmailing it.

And she seems to be enjoying the whole affair !!!!!

The Nuclear Deal - and a sad reflection.
by M. Shankar on Jun 12, 2008 11:22 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

With a Government on many patched up wheels, unavoidably for now, to enable it to "run" but in different directions, it is only natural that the nation is unable to move in any one direction comfortably, for right or wrong! The 'nuclear deal' is one of the many casualties which got entangled under its multidirectional coach. It is nice to be known as the world's largest democracy, but also painful to be recognized as a country which cannot decide on matters of great importance, inspite of a lawfully elected Government run by people's representatives.

We may also ponder over how much of quality time and costly money was lost discussing, negotiating and quarrelling over such issues as the 'deal'. Or what impact this stigma of indecisiveness would have on the country and its leaders on similar vital issues that may come up in future. I am not for now judging on whether the nuclear deal was good for India or whether it was skewed to favour US but I am pained at the several pulls and pressures our political structure is throwing up on crucial governance. While as a democracy we can pat ourselves on the back, as a country with one overriding idealogy which has the country's - and peoples' - interest and welfare at heart, we have a long way to go. With parties getting fragmented and multiplying with smaller support bases, pressure groups and convenient alliances emerging during elections and then changing where power beckons, future looks more tawdry. The situation is worrying.

Yes.This is for the first time that Opposition parties being very weak, have caused the damage to an international agreement concerning public interest. The selfish opposition due to its greed for power let o the opportunity of India's supply of power. They are hoping to get votes on this ground. Let us see if the people would vote for damagers or developers.
