Its not that only in India the prices of Food products have risen. In fact the real prices of food grains should be atleast 10 times higher than they are at present. Our Government spends 20-30 billion dollars every month to subsidise the price of Diesal and Petrol. Than our poor farmers use subsidised diesal to grow and transport the crops, and our Government foolishly sells this subsidised price food crops to Middle east at the lower rates. Cant we sell/export foodgrains at their actual price after taking the subsidised diesal prices into account, and than use that money to subsidise prices here for poor people. But politicians will never understand.
