Fall!!
by Vivekanand Venkataraman on Jun 10, 2008 09:26 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

You dont really need to have a biug thing to happen from outside.. for the empire to fall..
All empires have fallen becuase of problems within only..... So will the MK group also... just wondering... that this is all happening when MK is alive.. what will happen if he is no more...
immediate split of DMK
- stalin will not be allowed to come down south of Madurai//
- stalin cant control the senior party members.
- the family by itself break down
- Maran bro will twi up with JAya and work out ways and means to sustain business... for now they would have learnt the lesson that being a minister will only be a happy litte honeymoon period... and you need to be real politician to continue..
- Loss of all the goodwill ( so called) that DMK generated by the freebees
-emergence of JJ
and the show will go on...

Why do people from TN act so insecure? They stick with ppl from TN, they show a lot of favoratism towards other TN ppl. I appreciate the amount of contribution TN ppl have made, but don't like their favoratism attitude.

insecurity is in the minds of the majority of the indians.. this reflects in their poor choice of leaders, inability to understand the greater good, and the feeling of inferiority against the westerners...

this has naturally resulted in "group behaviour"... and this is not only unique to TN...

the order of hierarchy of some of the groups is as follows;

sub-sect > sect> caste > religion > language (regional) >national...

this is cunningly utilised by the politiians and the result is total chaos in governance... coz the politicians (who are the MLA/MP) simply cannot satisfy all the hierarchies and they find that they cannot satisfy all... so the best thing for them to do is to actually do nothing, but keep the hierarchy satisfied... whenever the balance seems skewed, there is a shift in party (to which, the politicians have another excuse - horsetrading and coalition politics!!!)...

so ultimately, people are fed up in confusion as to what is good for them and end up again to their basics - groupism!!!

Will hindutva work in Tamil nadu??
by Atul prasad on Jun 10, 2008 08:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think that last elections AIADMK lost mainly on 2 accnts :
1)Mishandling of Shankaracharya
2)Loads of pre poll election promises by DMK.

Otherwise I feel that last time AIADMK rule was the best, the amt of industry amma was able to bring in was unmatched.
I feel that her meeting with Narendra Modi was really intresting and also her party oppostion to seth samundram project(not vehmently).

But will hindutva work in land of the dravidian??

Atul Prasad,
There is merit in your post. The Shankaracharya episode was totally unexpected. A legally doubtful case. Therefore, rumours abound as to the "real reason" behind the appalling treatment of a Sanyasi, who, sadly, did not know how to handle politicians. Can you imagine, "Dravidian" lawyers in the Madras H.Ct. took out a noisy procession against bail for him!! They viewed him as a brahmin, not as a Sanyasi (A sanyasi has no caste!!)
BUT Jayalalitha lost votes because of it. Some of my villagers said to me in Tamil, "We do not vote for people who trouble Sanyasis". In some ways, rural Tamils are intensely Hindu. Very conservative, very devoted, imbedded in Hindu traditions. But don't understand Hindutva.
It has some appeal in Coimbatore (where an Islamic baazaar bomb killed 80 people) in Madurai and one or two other places where muslims have bought up a lot of land with gulf monies.
But in TamilNadu, the Dravidian parties have built up strong "patronage" groups. From govt.contracts, to taking sand illegally (very profitable business), cancelling murder cases, share of bribes from local land-registration offices and so on - the "DMK families" and "AIDMK families" with their goondas will make it hard for other parties to get votes. Villagers are threatened by them. Post-election violence is known to happen. There is still "block voting" as the caste-elders direct. None as yet grasp the national level politics.

AIADMK is the dravidian chapter of BJP.
Jaya support ram mandir
stands against compelled relegious conversion.
opposed sethu samudram project. And uses Aryan(swastik) symbol in her party posters.
But still Jaya stands as the most powerful and much accepted leader in tamilnadu for every class.

Both DMK and AIADMK, especially DMK, have spoiled TN totally and Karunanidhi has contributed greatly to the same.Periyar wanted caste to be abolished but Kaunanidhi twisted the same to propogate antibrahminism and anti Hinduism. Now not only his sons are revolting but his wives also are intefering in decision making. He is a prisoner in his own family.

Bhaskaran, Selvam and HariPrasad,
Rajaji, devised much of the strategy with Annadurai in the mid-1960s, for the 1967 DMK rule. He ignored the strident anti-brahmin abuse of the DMK, but focused on his opposition to the Congress. He started with TN, then went on to all-India level with his Swatantra Party to oppose Congress. Many brahmins followed Rajaji's advice and voted for DMK in 1967.
It is disappointing that DMK, ADMK rule has turned out to be worse than the Congress rule. Only emotional rhetoric, symbolic gestures like "Make Tamil a Classical language". No real progress in anything much. Corruption strong.
I am sad that "caste" has been strengthened. There is a party for "Naickers", one for "Nadars", one for thevars, one for "Dalits-1" (Thiruma Valavan) and another for "Dalits-2" (Krishnaswamy). I see a Sangham for every caste as there were in the 19th century.
I am also saddened by the spreading "goondaism". Example, the disgraceful Chennai Corpn. elections in 2007 ( I and another person went to vote, found an open lorry blocking the booth - with DMK rowdies waving weapons, we heard one say, "Dai, indha rendu iyerungalaiyun oottukku pochchollu" = "Ask the two iyers to go home") and the recent violence within the DMK party elections in UdamalaiPettai, when a DSP was badly beaten up for doing his job.
In my view, Tamils used to be a polite, cultured and warm people. But since the 1960s they have taken another "avataram". These are not the people I grew up with.

kris iyer,

i have seen and experienced some of the goondaism as is mentioned in your post... the most unfortunate thing is that these types of hooliganism is not brought to the public... the media is hand in glove either with the dmk or the admk...

the vendetta that was started by ramasamy naicken is what has kept fuelling the dmk politics... everything is seens as either brahmin or non-brahmin...

sentiments galore in TN, and the feeling of subjucation by brahmins has been deeply rooted in their minds and it is an uphill task to convince otherwise... a maddened mind does not comprehend things easily...

rajaji is only to blame as he fostered a snake to counter another...

Hi Kris & Seshadri,
I completely agree to your view on current socio-political situation prevails in tamilnadu. I personally feel that brahmins in Tamilnadu have distanced themselves from other streams. This is not happening in other states where they co-exist like brothers and sisters. In tamilnadu particularly in metroes brahmin are living in pockets and are unwilling to mingle with others. I found it very difficult to get a house for myself in Ashoknagar which is predominantly a brahmin area. They simply refuse to give house to non-brahmins even though i am a strict vegetarian. This makes the task easier for politicians and missionaries who want to split the people on caste lines. Finally this is the duty of broad minded people like us to create mutually helpful, friendly atmosphere where all people live in harmony.

by Seshadri on Jun 10, 2008 11:02 PM  Permalink
hi bharati raja,

i appreciate your views on the topic...

the reason why brahmins do not give houses to non-brahmins is predominantly due to "uncleanliness" of the other (if i may use the expression without hurting anybody)... coz, the brahmins are highly disciplined in their habits and manners and anything against it immediately gets their dislike...

also, probably if you go through known friends, am sure that they would be inclined to believe you...

i have a house in coimbatore and even though we preferred brahmins because of obvious similarities in living style, we let it to a vegetarian non-brahmin... so i think it is rather an individual preference that matters in these things which should not be considered as "social distancing"...

we have several family friends who are non brahmin vegetarians and we treat them equallly...

i believe that you are confusing individual preferences to societal co-existence!
