As there were more and more reports from battlefield of SL Troopers going after mass suicides, Sri Lanka has came out with a fine idea to stop it. boost up with cocaine and other drugs to get rid of LTTE fear.

Fiction of imagination, devoid of a semblance of truth.
Typical LTTE terrorist propaganda regurgitated by an LTTE terrorist supporter.
I see lot of hate messages here. People in India dont really understand the problem in SL. I am giving a brief synopsis. After Sri Lanka became independant in the 50's, the budhist monks there became prominent in public life. Tamils were the affluent section of the society whereas the majority sinhalese were the labour class. This infuriated the Budhist monks and the majority sinhala people. They created reservations for the sinhalese in all colleges, schools, govt jobs, army, police etc. They also imposed sanctions on trade in the city of Jaffna. Both Jaffna and Colombo at one point were financial hub of Sri Lanka.
Every sinhalese hates tamils to the extent they want all tamils to leave the nation. Buddhist monks are against the very simple teching of Buddha. All his life Buddha thought only peace.
Sinhalese are actually people who migrated from india in early BC from Bengal, Orissa and Bihar. Sinhalese is very similiar to Sanskrit. SL Tamils are people who migrated from TN since the early BC and some few hundred years back during the British rule. Hence both are not orginal inhabitants of the island. Why should they both quarrel in the name of religion and language. IF there was equal rights for the groups there would have never been this bloody war for 30 yrs

I agree with most of what you say.Buddhist monks have forgotten what Buddha preached. But sinhalese do not hate tamilians and do not want them to leave the nation. Most of them want tamilians to be united with them and be sri lanka citizens without breaking the country into pieces. That's why they hate LTTE and not tamilians. Mahinda rajapaksa Govt does not help to solve this problem and believes in war solution which is totally wrong. The govt does not represent all sinhala people because almost 50% of the people voted against Rajapakse in the election.
After Sri Lanka became independant in 50's the buddhist monks there became prominent in govt policy making. The tamils were the most affluent section of the society and the majority Sinhalese felt alienated. They started reservation for the majority sinhalese in all govt jobs, colleges, schools, army, police, governance etc. They imposed restriction on trades in Jaffna and crippled the economy there. Jaffna and Colombo were two thriving cities in 50's. Tamils were protesting peacefully against the injustice for 30 years from 50's to 80's. After ethnic cleansing of tamils in 1979, the militant outfit of LTTE was formed. Prabhakaran was trained and supported by Indira Gandhi and MGR. There were several tamil outfits in Sri Lanka getting funds from abroad. Prabhakaran murdered all the rival tamil outfits and their leaders to divert all the funds to LTTE alone. Rajiv Gandhi made a tactical error in sending Indian troops to Sri Lanka for peace keeping. They ended up fighting with the LTTE causing major casualities on both sides. Sri lankan govt broke the peace accord days ater the Indian troops landed there. LTTE used this to assasinate Rajiv Gandhi as revenge, this further alienated their force in India. Only a small portion of tamils in TN support LTTE. Majority of tamils sympathize with sri lankan tamils but are against the LTTE. Only the old and the poor tamils still remain in SL, most of them moved away from the country now. Eventually the sinhalese will wipeout tamils.

Since all of us seems to sympathize with the SL Tamils, what can be done to help these poor soul? We all seems to agree that if nothing is done, the Sinhalese will eventually wipe out the SL Tamils. We all seems to not totally agree with the LTTE, but being pragmatic- who can help these poor soul if not the LTTE?

There should be a discussion between Indian Central Govt., Sri Lanka Govt.,TN Govt., Norwegians and LTTE to amicably solve this problem. Without the input of TN this will not be solved since knowingly or unknowingly TN politicians support LTTE's terrorism in Sri Lanka. While appreciating the difficulties faced by the Sri Lanka Tamilians (for which they are also partly responsible)we must also remember that partition of the country or violence( state or otherwise)will never solve this problem.Further it must also be understood where a certain ethnic group has a majority of 75% of the population, they will enjoy some additional benefits (unlike in our own India, where the minorities enjoy more concessions than the majority!!).
When the Eelam Tamils are living under trees due to bombing by the Sinhalese..., Indian Tamils are arresting them for helping to defend their lives and properties. Keep up the good job.
What a bunch of hypochrites? For peaceful living of Tamils in SL, there rights have to be safeguarded. If we are not going to help them, atr least give them the means to defend their property - or else give a cargo of poison to the SL Tamils and take them out of this misery.
Well done Karuna, well done Sonia and well done stupid Singh.
