Why the nuceal deal is bad
by Suraj Singh on Jul 24, 2008 11:43 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

o Does not give India any unique status, but is identical
to the agreement with non-Nuclear Weapons States, and quite
different from one with the P-5.

o Does not guarantee fuel supply, but guarantees
perpetual IAEA inspections.

o Does conform to US domestic legislation like the Hyde
Act.

o Does not allow India, unlike the P-5, to unilaterally
withdraw its facilities from intrusive inspections.

o Does not specify what 'corrective steps', if any, India
may take in case of supply disruptions; to wit, there are
no corrective steps.

The Americans are obviously considering this a
coup for themselves, and I speculate they have several
objectives, none of which is good for India:

1 mercantilist: To support companies like GE and
Westinghouse which will benefit from the sales of reactors.

rediff.com/money/2008/jul/21bweek.htm

2 strategic: To keep India militarily weak as a precursor
to prying loose the Northeast in an operation similar to
how East Timor was detached from Indonesia.

3 tactical: To ensure that India continues to be as
dependent on uranium suppliers as it has been on oil
suppliers, which means outsiders have their hand on India's
jugular, and the spigot can be turned on or off to keep
India docile and obedient.

4 just plain opportunistic: To strike while the iron is
hot, while their good friend controls the Indian
government.

Mr.Suraj Singh very well said. In addition to the above points, American business stands to gain enormously. The deal will open up new ventures for American business and industrial community amounting to Rs.400,000 crores.

controversial
by surajit som on Jul 24, 2008 11:43 AM  Permalink

it is a hugely complex issue but that does not mean it is bad. the economic reform of 1991 was controversial amd huge. but we have gained from it.narasimha rao govt was the most corrupt govt till then (with minister like sukh ram, it won motion with bribe) but country made good economic progress. many states with huge corruption(like haryana, punjab ) keep making good progress.whereas in Orissa ,the CM may be honest but it makes no progress. progress with corruption is better than no pregress at all.let us remember : life is neither moral nor immoral. it is what it is .same with nation or country.

libralize policy by FM (Manmohan Sing as Finance Minister)
by mirza ali on Jul 24, 2008 11:42 AM  Permalink

Please note that the LIBRALIZE policy was the dictate of THE WOLD BANK due to the poor conditions of India at that time it is an opportunity for manmohan singh to implement it. so he did that and today India is growing but the N-Deal is not necessarily be a similar kind of boost to Indian economy. IT IS NOTHING BUT A BIG RISK created by the leaders of today for coming GENERATION.
CAN MONMOHAN SINGH REMOVE POWERTY, SHORTAGE OF FOOD SUPPLY, ELCTRICITY, WATER AND ROAD NETWORK AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL.
Today monmohan singh is doing what USA want through an Italian born lady who has no sympathy with indian poor and untouchable who drink sewage water to survive in a currupt atmosphere.

what a load of bull
by aarshabharata on Jul 24, 2008 11:34 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The nuclear deal is bullshit. I know things look rosy now, with the MPs saying the rural poorest of the poor will get power with this deal and all that. What a load of crap.We won't see the effect of this for the next 8-10 years(which is is the time it takes to set up a nuclear plant) and after that the power we get will be so expensive that the poor will anyway not be able to use it. So what will the govt do? Subsidize it by putting the financial load somewhere else. This is a wrong direction the country is taking, we will all regret it in the long run.

Ask any comman man. People still don't believe that there is only and only benefit through this deal. if it was so, why the money was used to buy the MPs. definately Sonia or MMS didn't spend through their pockets. Then who paid for horsetrading?
There is other side of this deal which neither you nor me knows

No point in focusing too much on unknown conspiracy theories.

You are off by a bit.
Do you know, even the current reactors are running at 50% utilization?
They will immediately be up at 90% when Uranium supplies start.
Also, current third generation reactors can be setup in 4 years or so.
Nuclear energy is about same cost as gas based electricity. There is no cheaper source India can get which will supply large amounts of electricity(> 20000MW). So relax, and enjoy the progress.

a country like USA which has population of close to 30 Cr is using 20 mln barrel per day of petrol while India with 110 crore of people is using 2 mln barrel per day of petrol. India's middle class is growing in size and so is their demand for energy. It will help the petrol prices rise (with China effect).....and then u will welcome 20 rs per unit of electricity from nuclear or any other sources, because by then petrol would cost much more. coal would be nowhere in site after 25 years anyway. u need not only the nuclear, but all kinds of power in 20 years time.

Bullshit is a good option for generating bio-gas which can run our country when Petroleum prices go through the roof. India has 19 million cattle, which is highest in the world. Indian cattle produce millions of tons of bullshit every year but it has not been tapped so fat. In the cost of one nuclear reactor, 10 community gobar gas plants can be made, that would make electricity from the bullshit that is otherwise polluting the streets of our country. If this experiment succeeds, India can supply bulshit based power plats to the Nuclear Supply Group (NSG) countries and become an energy super power.

ha ha ha...has some merit though....but as I said, we will need as many sources as we can get. energy prices are gonna baloon-up.
