This incident shows the extent to which our type of democracy and party rule has deteriorated. The party is made of a number of people, but people become insignificant after the party is formed. the arrogance and ego of the office-bearers in the party try to be the masters and force the other members to comply to their wishes and dance to their tune. This shows that the party bosses forget their duty to hear the member's voice in the right way, and act as if they are the new dictator. This is done in the name of discipline, by people who have forgotten the definition of discipline. The stand of the speaker is lauded by the people of the country, by the cross-section of people irrespective of party affiliation. Some among the communists may also be admiring this stand, but in the name of discipline of the party they would not be opening their mouth in public. we wish that all MPs could be able to act like the speaker and act as per their due conscience for the good of the nation, and not act like ROBOTs.
i didnot like the rough ways of CPM. But still i like to congradulate them for their bold decision. Expelling a senior leader like Somnath is not a easy decision. But a cadre party like CPM just shown that nobody is above party rules. For a communist, compromising on ideology for "money & Power" is the worst thing to do. Somnath chattergee become power greedy & deserved to be treated as non-communist.
This strong democratic party structure & rules are the reason, why CPM is still the strongest & growing communist party in India.
Karat has once again proved That he knows all the autocratic ways very well.there is no democrace in CPI.He Follows the path of dictatorship In running the CPM politburo. Following the foot steps of CHINA.
the communists have shown their true colours in biman bose statement saying that "Somnath Chatterjee might have acted according to the Indian Constitution, but our party has its own constitution and decisions are taken as per party rules," Bose told reporters on the sidelines of a rally in Kolkata.
who will help mother india get rid of this idiotic lunatics

What is Indian Constitution .Didnt Mr Somnath Chaterjee sitting in speakers chair say that by resigning "I cannot vote against UPA along with the NDA" is this language supposed to be spoekn by a Impartial Speaker who is above party politics . He is airing his views in the press that he is Pro UPA and that he cannot vote along side BJP is he showing a proper respect to the chair he is adoring. He says that he is above party politics then when his party nomiated him as an MP why he didnt object? Why didnt he chose to join the Rajya Sabha as a Nominated member like Jaya Bhaduri or Lata Mangeshkar. That time he knew that being a nominated member he can never become a Speaker or eat the cake with Z Security status . He has not stayed back in the sperakers position due to keep him above party politics ...He has done it so that Congress wins it easily and he doesnt have to vote with NDA which he has already Confessed infront of the Press .Didnt he know that CPIM the party Politburo is the supreme authority. How many ppl have crossed the fence from CPIM to Congress but many have crossed from Congress to CPIM and other party like karunakaran, sharad pawar ,tariq anwar, mamata banerjee...is this what discipline means ..is tghis what Ideology means to the indians .In CPIM party Constitution is nothing but the charter based on Ideology .Infact now that the CNN-IBN has handed over the tape to somnath chatterjee "who wouldnt like to vote with NDA against UPA" how can one be assured

With his(Somenath Chatterjee') integrity in giving Justice as Sanjeev Saxena who is Amar singhs secretary is openly seen handing over the Money to those Three BJP MP's.Yes CPIM has done wrong when they supported China ...But the truth is that it is a fact that it was India who intruded first which nationalistic forces will not like to hear. Why did we go to Srilanka against Tamils ...Just any country will ask for help and we will do it spendin g lacs and crores ..Did Rajiv Gandhi seek the approval of parliamnent before sending troops ? Arent we acting like regional dadas ...Yes everybody wants to a be regional bhaii.

If Speaker is above party Politics then why is SPEAKER not from Opposition ? Why is he alawys from the ruling party. Why dint Congress continue with Mr Manohar Joshi of Shiv Sena as Speaker? On what ground did they chose speaker Somnath chatterjee above Manohar Joshi ....??? It was only on the Condition of Party and Politics only that they chsoe Somnth..Bloggers Please dont Confuse between Election Commissioner and Lok Sabha Speaker.Election Commissioner comes by clearing UPSC exams and is a Senior IAS officer he can be Non Partisan But Speaker FIGHTS ELECTIONS UNDER PARTY BANNER and is elected by the Votes of Elected member who comes in lok sabha after getting elected under a PARTY BANNER.So Non Political speaker is just like a Golden Dear mentioned in Ramayana
Somnath Chatterjee is one of the national leaders for whom I have always had and presently have very high respects. There however, was always one question in my mind ie What is he doing in the Communist party. Now I have received an answer for that question. It is sad that he was in the wrong place for forty long years.
JNU does not elect even one MP. Bengalis in WB and Tripura elect most of the MPs for CPI(M), but they have nothing to say about the policy of the CPI(M), which is controlled by the JNU gang of Karat-Yachury. These JNU people are very anti-Bengali; that was the only reason they would not allow Jyoti Basu to be the PM in 1996, because he was a Bengali. If he would be from Kerala or Andhra Pradesh, there would be no objection. Not a single Generel SEcretary of the CPI(M) was a Bengali, they are all South Indians. Not a single building of the CPI(M) or CITU is named after a Bengali.
Now after this victory of MM Singh, West Bengal and Tripura will not get any project, any money for development, as it was the case for the last 45 years. However Kerala and South India still will get everything.
It is high time that Bengalis should leave CPI(M) to these JNU gangs and form a seperate party to take into account of the interest of West Bengal and Tripura.
Well done commies by expelling Mr. Somnath Chatterjee from the party. Now, I am presenting my theory for future bengal. Here this is below: 1) Mr. Somnath Chatterjee should now be invited to congress 2) He should be projected as CHIEF MINISTER candidate for bengal and battle the next assembly election 3) As bengalees were not having any good choice for bengal, they have casted vote for crap CPM but now, woh! what a public immpression of Mr. Somnath! He is an idol of any good politician and good human being also. He is responsible, he is honest, soft spoken, inteligent, enthusiasm to do good, excperienced,pro-development, hard working, sincere, dedicated to service! such a desrving candidate bengalees will never get for present alternative! so, they will die to cast vote for congress with Mr. Chatterjee and congress will win the election with a marginal victory! This is not only my prediction but I believe to have it ! 4) I pray to congress and Mr.Somnath Chatterjeee, for the betterment of bengal and bengalees , please accept my above proposal and go ahead for the bright future of bengal!

do'nt forget, congress has ruled bengal for nearly 30 years and CPM just equalised the years .I fully agree with saugata, people will have the believe again on congress if they take Mr. Somnath as a chief ministerial candidate

yes, the same theory can be applied but with BJP
F the money can buy the lawmakers (MPs) --the law executers are small fry comparatively to be bought out at less amount, including IB and CBI and judges, with promises of powerful positions.
In the next year the current power bearers will rob the Indian treasury 10 folds over. So it is a wise investment.
ALL the BS in the present environment for nuclear deal is nothing more than political and money kickbacks and extremely shortsighted for India' welfare. The NEXT US government would have fought it more aggressively to look better than Bush's term. BE it Obama or McCain. $100 Billion is on the table.
A strategic alignment with USA is natural, it had to happen, regardless of Indira's fallout with Nixon/Kissinger. Congress had NO reason to be dictated terms by USA.
AS a PM I would have USA support India's seat as a permanent seat on UN security council, member of nuclear weapon state, and last but least equal member of G8 plus.
BUT alas you and me are stuck with corrupt politicians from Nehru downwards. They will sell their mother for money and power so to sell out Bharat Mata is NOT a surprise.
A revolution is not far away once the literacy level rises. Which it will. The NRIs are going to play a very important in this.
The NRIs MUST be allowed to vote. Dual citizen will allow this. NOT a PIO card to pay exhortation's fees just to visit India.
NRIs and their relatives and professional associates talk the same talk but unfortunately stay away from the "dirty" pol
There is an adage saying " When the going get tough. the tough get going". Welldone Speaker Sir since you dont compromise the Indian constitution with the party constitution. You are an Indian first then a CPI(M) later
it is sad that the CPM has expelled Somnath from the party. it is illogical and ill conceived but why most of us are abusing the communists or karat etc? in a democracy they have the same rights as us to express their opinions. if they are anti national then who is electing them for last 30 yrs or so in West bengal or kerala. or they also not anti national then? their power also comes from people's support. it is the people who have to throw them out. may be they are doing something fro the common people and not for people who can afford to write rediff forums.

That is the problem with the communists. While they can indoctrinate the gullible rural people who are easily swayed by the proletariat rhetoric, they cannot stand up to any well informed discussion in public forums like this. Communist preachings are no different from the fanatic religious discourses of terrorists

That is the beauty of democracy. Democracy does not stop even people like Karat whose ultimate aim (according to the doctrines that they believe in) is to establish the dictatorship of the communist party in the country. However, the Karat coterie, while taking advantage of democracy for furthering their objectives do not wish to respect the democratic traditions, which provides them with such freedom of speech.
