most important thing
by vinay on Jul 22, 2008 09:52 PM  Permalink

more important than winning of ms is the loss of mayawati who was dreaming of being pm of ind with just 17 mps with her out 541 (just 3%), moreover she is not even in the centre at lok sabha or rajya sabha.

India will win..

Nuclear energy is only costlier than coal of all the non-renewable resources. coal which you probably know has very big environmental costs and is dirtiest source(if you have heard about global warming).
Renewable resources have their limits which is why no country has been able to harness them to make them major contributors yet but work is on.
1. Solar - too expensive - 5 times Nuclear.
2. Wind - Limited scope but currently doing better than Solar.
3. Hydel - Big but limited by rivers and no major possibilities in near future.

Thorium is a research project and has been ongoing in India for more than 30 years but we are working in isolation and other countries working together by sharing technology so we are behind.
Unfortunately, energy can not be wished into appearing and among all that is available, N Power has most potential which India has not been able to utilize. Which is why Kalam/MMS /others think India would do better with Nuclear Energy.

People who are genuinely afraid that India might have sold out to US have nothing to fear. India can import from any country in NSG and there are 45 of them. If US offers best reactors then buy from there. Also only reactors which India dictates will be in Nuclear safeguard and rest can be used for defense research. What is the problem there?
BJP supporters, don't worry, even BJP would have signed this or similar deal as in their heart they want rapid progress and are rightists which makes them natural allies of US.

Dear picture is not that rosy which you have mentioned here, you need to buy old US reactors which is headache for them, destroying old reactor is almost impossible due to their damage to environment and your people.

Also we will get only 15% of our requirement energy upto 2020 after installing those costly reactors. China is more smarter than us thats why they are away from US propoganda.

US defence and energy companies are not trustable did you seen bhopal and enron mishap where india lost billions of dollar.

China is not fool.

If you were told, old reactors will not be bought, would you be happy? Have no fear on this account, moving old reactors is very very difficult. Destroying old reactors in not a problem, it is used fuel which is bigger threat.

Would it make you happy to know that even China is working furiously on importing Nuclear reactors from whereever they can and is trying to generate more Nuclear power?
Even they imported latest reactors from France and USA. Please do a little bit research on this.
Yes, China is not fool. Also, there you do not have everyone who can voice their protest at every and anything. Have you see any protest their happening?
They are more focused on their development than to talk about all these ideologies.

how can you say US has best reactor .......... they dont have FBR the most fast and quality Reactor which Russia has .............. now just go on and watch how they will curb the FBR by product which is more fissile than the element it consumes ......... thats may be the reason why ask India to put all FBR in IAEA scanner ..................... we are still sufffering what Nehru has done ............ now we will see Ndeal colours after years as you also there and me too ............ dont forget to come on blog ...... we will definitely discuss

Fact about nucleur deal
by CaptJackSparrow on Jul 22, 2008 09:38 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Nuclear deal will benefit to mostly US. Up to 2020 we will get only 15% energy of our requirement with old reactor of US.

It will benefit to only US bankrupt companies, any how US wants to destroy their old reactor but now same india will buy from them. After heavy investment you have to follow US on their every aspects.
You know US wherever they interfere that country becomes war field, Let forget about war field but after getting independence country from british this is another way to become slave of US.

15% is a lot, actually it could be anywhere from 7-15%. Even if lowest power estimate was reached due to this which is 20000MW, 3 States like Karnataka can be powered without need to use any other electricity and no power cuts. This should give you an idea about the magnitude. If we hit 40000MW which some folks are now predicting, it will be enough to power 1/4th of India on current power usages.
Friend don't get confused too much in percentage terms. We are talking big numbers here.

Sandeep, ever heard that " fools rush in where angels fear to tread" ? MMS was rushing in to conclude this deal, not because he was working in National Interest but because he was working to please Big Brother (Bush).

Besides, it is common knowledge that Vajpayee initiated the dialogue and almost had the same agreement before his departure in 2004, but he was not satisfied with this agreement. So he didn't operationalise it and wanted to look at it afresh after the elections. That is Statesmanship.

Whether it helps US, I don't care as long as it is good for India and that is what major focus should be.

We need to stand on our own in field of defence.

Indo - US Nuclear deal and PM statement
by Jagannath Rao on Jul 22, 2008 09:32 PM  Permalink

Great speech by the PM to conclude the debate. I suppose this decision he should have taken way back and kicked the Left on their butt. They were always unreiable. With a motely crowd of MPs they would love to arm twist governments to do things that will hold them high in the Chinese eyes. It is high time that India as a country rebuts the Left and sees through their designs. Probably at a point Mayawati may be a good non-poisonous snake then a king cobra like Left.

Read item #c. The poor man still gets nothing.....
by ashok kumar on Jul 22, 2008 09:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Thousands of crores of rupees have changed hands. Congress has to reap it back--guess who will foot the bill? You and Me.

$100 BILLIONS worth of contracts are up for grabs, you get the picture of kickbacks.

Nuclear Energy is good so long as India does not become a "puppet" of USA. Bush paid $10 Billion to Porkistan and got nothing in return, Pervez Musafir/ISI hoodwinked USA. India had always sought international cooperation to fight terrorism but got no sympathy or cooperation till now. NOW the target is shifting from Iraq to Afghanistan/Poristan, hence the new found love for India.

China has USA over the barrel with debt and CANNOT penetrate the government like they can BUY Indian politicians.

As a MINIMUM in return of the Nuclear Deal--India MUST DEMAND for permanent seat on UN sec. council, recognized as a Nuclear Weapon State and admitted in the G8 group as an equal member.

But alas our politicians have no shame self respect or National pride. They still suffer from slave and white skin complex.

Big difference between India and China is that we produces things for ourselves first, whereas they produce things for the world. In anycase, the so-called US debt to China must be seen in perspective: much of what is produced in China, are by firms owned by American Western countries along with expatriate Chinese (same as NRIs). Where else do you think a once isolated communist country got its money do all this?
As for nuclear weapons state recognition - that is a bit of a Dorothy Dixer. Signing 123 agreement, IAEA and NSG agreements automatically means just that?
And who cares about UN Security Council? Do you think Omar Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir of Sudan or Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe cares?

Very well said, but is anybody powerful even listening?
Especially the Veto.
China can pay back an old debt and "make up" by demanding for India a Veto-seat in the UNSC.
