Below news from Indiatimes...this is what is happening in Bengal and what will happen to India if left are allowed to win in LS elections
Hooghly, West Bengal : In a novel protest, farmers of Hooghly district threw about 500 bags of potatoes weighing about 25,000 kilograms on National Highway-2, linking Delhi and Kolkata , demanding that the government intervene to arrest falling prices. According to agriculture experts, the acreage under potato cultivation is 90,000 hectares of land in Hooghly alone with a yield of 2.2 million tons.

Other districts in West Bengal , including South and North Dinajpur, Burdwan, Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri have also reaped a bounty harvest. As a result of supply glut, farmers are not getting a proper price for their yield and the situation has led to a crisis.

Farmers want the state government to fix the price of potatoes per bag at Rs 150. Currently, they get Rs 70-80, which they claim is not even fetching the production cost, leave alone the profit. Sheikh Mannan Sarkar, a farmer said, “In one sack, we incur a loss of Rs 60-70. To highlight our problems, we threw the potatoes. We hope the authorities will take action.”

God Save indian people from these politicians.

Mr MMS - Why cant you maintain your gentleman image?
by Kamal on Jul 20, 2008 10:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

So much of horsetrading is taking place. Congress has outsourced horsetrading activity to Samajwadi party, to maintain a cleam image. Mr. Prime Minister, we know that you are a spineless prime minister and the weakest also. But, we all strongly beleive that you are a gentle and honest person. All these are happening in front of your eyes. Why not you quit? We are very sure that you would not have instigated this horse trading, but definitely you are watching this happening. Where are you going to place your clean image? Your ego of going with Nuclear Deal, at any cost repeat at any cost, spoils your image. Why not you table the agreement copy in parliament and right royally go for the deal. You are no more an honest person in the eyes of Aam Aadmi now.

Its not about getting nuclear fuel for our reactors. It's about containing China's growing threat to our country. We are surrounded by countries which are hostile to our interests and all of which are cosying upto China. We need to have the capability to defend our country should a situation arise where we are attacked by China. And believe me it's threat that is looming on our heads like dark clouds. We need to modernise our military capability for which we need technology and we don't have the time or the resources to invent it.Given the American sanctions we cannot have access to that technology and this deal promises to nullify those sanctions. We should support our govt in the effort that they hv put in this deal.and Stop blaming the prime Minister. He is not a weak PM and he has exemplified it by showing courage to go for what he believed was in best interests of the people of this country.

Rise of Mayawati, BJP engineering absentions to cut her to Size
by All Right on Jul 20, 2008 10:33 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

All the defections including that of Shahid Siddiqui shows it is not UPA but UNPA and NDA that are indulging in the

defection game. But Shahid Siddiqui's defection has made the game clearer:

a. The Left's game-plan is to foster Mayawati on the nation
b. As the UNPA gains momentum, BJP's prospect of victory shrinks. What follows maybe is mass desertion by regional

parties, particularly of NDA towards UNPA
c. The deal is being opposed as anti-Muslim

Within these re-alignments taking place, the BJP and NDA strategically are covertly encouraging abstentions. A UPA win will

burst the UNPA bubble as the reward for all Mayawati's poaching of MPs will be that she will be tried for corruption.

All Right's post was given due consideration. All Right has his thought process wrong. First of all what wrong wit Ms. Mayawati becoming the PM? She is a bigger than the Italian (ex waitress)INC Chief. What hecredtials-daughter-in-law of our late PM. Is that adequate credentials? What is her educational background? Nothing my friends. Lets not get swayed by emotions. This is a country. BJP is a stupid party no doubt and wit Mr. Vajpayee's near exit it will go back into oblivion. The party would do well if they booted out the sindhi. This going to be a close vote but if the goverment falls the stock market is gonna wail. Hehe. I want it to fall only to teach Mr. amar singh a lesson. Cuz if the Government falls Mullah Yadav is not going to retain him. Three cheers for the no trsut to succeed.

The N-deal is a brain child of PM Manmohan Singh. UPA Chairperson has only fallen in line.

This is a defining moment to oust Left and Jehadi forces permanently from casting their long shadows on the political decision-making at the Centre. It would gear up effective confronation with those who undermine Indian law (read internal security) and evolve full fledged market economy.

Pray, let us have policy focus and not personality preferences when discussing the import of this special session.

"The deal is being opposed as anti-Muslim "

-- The deal is anti-terror, not anti-Muslim. Those who serve as the front organisation for Jehadi forces and those who normally chicken out in front of Jehadi terror are opposing the N-deal.

Hope BJP will support nationalist ethos of Tipu Sultan and muster courage to oppose Jehadi forces. They have been opposing Tipu Sultan so far and now have no guts to change their stand on N-deal even when terror threats loom large. Instead BJP revels in the collapse of the current arrangement to dispense law.

can scuttle the N-deal but not get it done again
by teen paise on Jul 20, 2008 10:29 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

BJP can combine with Communists to scuttle the N-deal. With who shall it combine to obtain the next N-deal?

This will achieve Communist objective immediately. China in next 10 years will be as strong as US and be able to neutralise an Indo-US amity within US itself.

Don't be like the Hindu forces which betrayed Tipu Sultan and sealed India's fate as part and parcel of British empire.

BJP clumsily betrayed Ayodhya Temple movement by permitting Babri Masjid to be broken but never could muster majority to build a Bhavya temple. Now the same chauth force (25% electorates) is trying to betray N-deal endorsed by The Hindu, TOI, Telegraph, Indian Express, and most other papers.

Teen paise your arguement is not even worth ten paise. BJP's motive is to come to power and Left parties motive is not to go with nuclear deal. Their objective is different but the tool is same.

When the Prime Minister of India commits himself to something publicly, the nation expects him to abide by it. Let us therefore see how Dr Manmohan Singh has fared on the principle of ‘prime ministerial accountability’.

Speaking about the Indo-US nuclear deal in the Lok Sabha on July 29, 2005, the PM had said: “We shall undertake the same responsibilities and obligations as the United States. We expect the same rights and benefits as the US...India will never accept discrimination.” This assurance stands flouted in the draft safeguards agreement between India and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The draft does not recognise India as a Nuclear Weapons State on par with, and having the same rights and obligations as, the USA, Russia, Britain, France and China. In other words, India, with its strategic autonomy compromised, would have an inferior status in the global nuclear order in perpetuity.

Here is another broken assurance. On July 20, 2005, two days after he and American President George Bush issued a joint statement on the nuclear deal, Dr Singh addressed a press conference in Washington. “Mr Prime Minister,” a reporter asked, “will you seek a parliamentary consensus or approval to the new direction you seem to be taking in foreign policy?” The PM replied, as a prime minister should. “Well, the Parliament in our country is sovereign,” he said. “It goes without saying that we can move forward only on the basis of a broad national consensus.”

Today, can any sane person claim that there is “a broad national consensus” in the country justifying the PM’s decision to go ahead with the deal? The resistance from his erstwhile Left allies and the BJP began as soon as the joint statement was issued. How a manipulative PM betrayed the Left, forcing it to withdraw support to the UPA Government on July 8, is well known. Equally well known is how he violated the public commitment given by his own

Foreign Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, that the Government would go to the IAEA only after securing the vote of confidence in Parliament. But the nation must be alerted against a new conspiracy afoot to commit another betrayal. The Telegraph of Kolkata carried a front-page report on July 15, titled, Sink or survive, deal done. Quoting highly placed official sources, it said: “The nuclear deal is ‘done’, whether the UPA survives the trust vote or not. The deal will happen because the Government is clear that it is in the supreme national interest. If the Government has to go in the process, let it go.” An official source put it even more arrogantly: “As far as India is concerned, the deal has fled our shores. And India does not have an extradition treaty with Austria (its capital Vienna is the headquarters of the IAEA) to bring it back.”

The very next day, Rahul Gandhi tacitly endorsed this report, which has not been contradicted by the Government yet. “The nuclear deal is more important than the Government. If the Government falls while acting in the national interest, so be it.” In other words, as far as the PM and the Congress leadership are concerned, the deal is now a fait accompli. The trust vote is irrelevant vis-à-vis the fate of the deal.
Consider the enormity of the fraud being committed on the people and Parliament of India. In July 2005, the PM had said, “Parliament in our country is sovereign.” In July 2008, he is in effect saying, “The verdict of Parliament does not matter. I am accountable to President Bush, not to the Indian Parliament.”

How Dr Singh has viewed a deal between two sovereign nations through the prism of his personal relationship with George Bush — a relationship in which he sees himself as a junior partner — is evident from the dialogue between the two in Japan, on the sidelines of the G-8 summit earlier this month. After Bush congratulated him “on your leadership at home”, he said, “I’m very happy to report to the President that our relations have moved forward handsomely since our first meeting in July 2005.” Notice the words “I’m very happy to report to the President...” Is the Prime Minister of any self-respecting democratic nation expected to “report” the President of America? Would Dr Singh care to report to India’s Parliament, when it meets tomorrow and day after for a special session to determine the fate of his government, what assurance he gave to Bush in Japan?

We do not know what is going to happen in the Lok Sabha on July 22. However, one thing is widely known.
Dr Singh’s government, unsure of its survival, has been desperately trying to stitch together a majority by indulging in the worst kind of horse-trading New Delhi has seen, thereby setting a dangerous precedent in national politics. In his obsession to secure the nuclear deal at any cost, the “incorruptible” PM has blessed dozens of corrupt deals — to ensnare independent MPs and smaller parties, to poach bigger parties, to get criminal MPs out of jail, to pollute parliamentary democracy, in short, to mock the Republic of India.

The apolitical PM, who has never won a Lok Sabha election, may not care, but his party should know that there is a heavy price to be paid for his wrongdoings in the next parliamentary election, whenever they are held.
