RE:DEAR INDIANS, INFORMATION ON NUCLEAR DEAL
by hindhu communist on Jul 10, 2008 02:12 PM  Permalink
Your points are based on theory not on practical knowledge.
Although the Indian government wants to promote the proposed Indo-US nuclear deal in terms of power generation, the deal has very little to do with power generation.
Nuclear power contributes about 2 percent of the current electricity generations in India. At present, India was producing 3,300 MW. In 2020, the production would be 7,000 MW. According to the Planning Commission and the Prime Minister, the capacity of nuclear power would be 20,000 MW in the year 2020. In order to get there India will buy new or second-hand reactors from the U.S. to produce 13,000 MW of nuclear power. India will have to spend about Rs. 2 lakh crore for reactors and another Rs. 8 lakh crore to set them up with fuel facilities to achieve that goal.
The Indian budget is only Rs. 6.5 lakh crore per year. Thus, India will spend two times more than the country’s annual budget on setting up these vintage reactors only.
Even if India were to achieve a 50% increase in nuclear power generation (which is unlikely) such a step would only increase India’s overall electricity output by one percent at most, and would only increase India’s overall energy output by a fraction of one percent.

The reason, USA is pushing so hard that India should accept the deal,is,that, this deal is nothing but nuclear non-proliferation treaty in a different name.
Also USA want India to support it's future planned attacks on Iran & Syria.

Where is CPIM communist now - China is building six new nuclear power plants
by Loga on Jul 10, 2008 01:50 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India would require 500-600 thousand MW of power by 2030 up from 132,110 at present. Thus nuclear power is the only way forward for India.
Energy needs of India are increasing exponentially and only nuclear power is the way forward. Increased price of oil and gas internationally, issues of climate change associated with coal as well as the breakdown of consensus on big dams, India needs Nuclear Energy.
India generates 132,110 lakh MW of power annually. Of this, 64.7 per cent is generated from thermal power, 26.2 per cent is generated through hydro electric power, 5.9 per cent is from renewable power sources and only 3.1 per cent through nuclear power.Nuclear power would contribute 10 per cent of the country's energy needs by the year 2022 and 26 per cent of the needs by the year 2052.
Share of nuclear power in world wide energy production was one per cent in 1960 and between 1960 to 1986, it rose to 16 per cent of world's energy production. The share has remained constant since then. There are 439 nuclear power reactors operating around the world and the US accounts for 104 of these reactors followed by France at 59, Japan at 55, Russian Federation 31 and Republic of Korea 20.
Out of the 35 new nuclear power plants under construction in the world, Asia accounts for 24 of these. While China is building six new nuclear power plants to get 5,222 MW power for its grid, India too is building six such plants which would add 2910 MW of to its grid.

two aspects, the supply of uranium and the addition of new reactor capacity. At least
within this time horizon, neither nuclear breeding reactors nor thorium reactors will play a
significant role because of the long lead times for their development and market penetration.
The analysis of data on uranium resources leads to the assessment that discovered reserves are
not sufficient to guarantee the uranium supply for more than thirty years.
Eleven countries have already exhausted their uranium reserves. In total, about 2.3 Mt of
uranium have already been produced. At present only one country (Canada) is left having
uranium deposits containing uranium with an ore grade of more than 1%, most of the
remaining reserves in other countries have ore grades below 0.1% and two thirds of reserves
have ore grades below 0.06%. This is important as the energy requirement for uranium
mining is at best indirect proportional to the ore concentration and with concentrations below
0.01-0.02% the energy needed for uranium processing – over the whole fuel cycle – increases
substantially.
The proved reserves (=reasonably assured below 40 $/kgU extraction cost) and stocks will be
exhausted within the next 30 years at current annual demand. Likewise, possible resources –
which contain all estimated discovered resources with extraction costs of up to 130 $/kg –
will be exhausted within 70 years.
At present, of the current uranium demand of 67 kt/yr only 42 kt/yr are supplied by new

AMAR SINGH QUOTES
by debasi bhattacharyya on Jul 10, 2008 01:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Amar Singh said that when Prakash Karat "goes to meet Sonia Gandhi, it's called 'suhaag raat'(wedding night), but when we go to meet Sonia Gandhi, it's called 'balaatkaar'(rape)."

What is the meaning behind balaatkar to Sonia Gandhi at this stage.

The nuclear deal has many good points but the biggest drawback is that the Congress needs to tie up with an uncouth, manipulator like Amar Singh!
This comment shows Amar Singh's character and his upbringing. One may disagree with Sonia but to use such filthy language about a lady is something that is not in keeping with even the low standards that India Politics has sunk to.
Amar Singh doesn’t have the IQ to understand, he does not have the national interest at heart and is only worried about one interest – Anil Ambani’s interest which includes Windfall Tax to ruin Mukesh Ambani , Spectrum reallocation to screw Airtel and help RIL.Com
The ball is in BJP’s court:
The BJP can continue to oppose the deal but let them announce that they will abstain on the confidence vote. The deal may go through but Amar Singh will get the boot!

no to deal
by Anup Nair on Jul 10, 2008 01:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Looks like most people in this forum are taking that deal is in national interest. The deal is in the interest of america and not India.IF you think India will be full of lights after the deal think again, the nuclear energy will meet only less than 10% of our needs. But we effectively give ourselves to US in that matter.
Just think, IF SOMEONE TOLD YOU, I WOULD GIVE YOU ELECTRICITY AT HOME ONLY TO MEET 10% OF YOUR NEEDS, BUT YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT I SAY, MY ENEMY WILL BE YOUR ENEMY, YOU WILL HAVE TO TOE MY LINE ON VARIOUS ISSUES AND IN SHORT YOU WILL HAVE TO DANCE TO MY TUNES................Will you accept this???????? This is what you get wuth the deal, may be unwritten but clearly implied..

BJP supporters in rediff, mostly pizza delivery boys in US,are supporters of nuclear deal, except for the BJP leaders, who were the original beggars of the deal.

These PIZZA delivery boys or walmart shelf fillers in US are so indebted to US that they refuse to see the long term interests of India.

And they would like it anytime of the day to do muslim-bashing. Ordinary Muslims can never do anything right. He is criticised for whatever he does. Poor ordinary educated muslims seem to hvae resigned to their miserable fate. What a pity.

Anup Nair ,
Sonia Gandhi will realize that India "has to agree with US in all major issues" . Hope she is able to do it well . Or she can take lessons form Karat and Sitaram Yechury on how to remain under someone elses THUMB .
They have done it for sixty years - being under the thumb of China.
If eating US shit is bad , eating Chinese shit cannot to be good.
So think before you cut and paste that same stpid message!

Let's just talk about merits and demerits of the deal and the strategic alliance. This deal comes with lot of baggage.

India has to change its foriegn policy stand even before the deal was signed: "Voting against Iran in nuclear security issue". US congressman and Senator openly warned India to vote againt Iran if we want the deal to complete. This is atrocious; these petty politicians threatening our great nation.

Also, India has no enmity against Iran. Actually, we have had very good relationship with them. Iran is the only country which kind of vetoed the resolution, moved by pakistan, condemning India in OIC [organuzation of Islamic countires conf] some 20 years ago. It even gave permission for India to use its airspace and land incase of war with Pakistan. why should we vote against a friend?

This is just the beginning and we will lose much more than what we gain from this alliance.

Agreed, nuclear energy is important but we have other options and US is not only way to go.
