what I understand from news articles and specifically from message boards is that the Deal per se is a necessity for India as well as America - however, certain clauses, terms and safeguards inserted in the deal makes it disadvantageous to India since we have neighbors like Pakistan and China who are allowed to test nuclear any time they want. Not only that there are two types of safeguards agreement - one for no weapon states (i.e. states do not have nuclear boms) and the other nuclear weapon states. This article talks about putting the same terms as for non-weapon states. Not only that, the agreement allows US to inspect all nuclear reactors and plants at any time they wish to, which will expose our secret and safeguarded nuclear and other weapon establishments like research centres, manufacturing hubs, scientific institutes etc. which is against the nation's interest. Though BJP initiated the Nuclear power arrangement with the US, they were in the negotiating stage - by that time the government changed and the present Government, according to BJP and commies have not had tough negotiations with the US in removing certain conditions, warranties from the safeguard agreement which would hamper India's independence and right to test as well as proliferate. This is the reason, they were against the deal and wanted the government to place the entire details and agreement for a debate before taking a final decision. It seems congress succumped to the US pressure and initiate

You see to be able to read the mind of the scientists, or for that matter everyone. You must be god.
Retired scientists who have not proved their worth when the responsibilities were assigned to him have suddenly got an opportunity to atleast be remembered for their comments and get some news & TV coverage.
we should not forget that the present lot of scientists and those who have contributed immensely in past in the field of technological advancement were consulted and draft was shown to them, their concerns were noted, addressed and then again discussed with them.
Let us ignore the friends of China , Pakistan and BJP and have faith in the team that negotiated the deal.
If you remember that our team had litrally walked out of discussion when US were asserting pressure and were pressurising to accept things that would have been determental to our freedom to conduct research & trials.
So was the guts of our negotiating team and for the first time US knelt down.
Ignore BJP. They are shameless fellows. George Fernanades Had to remove his cloth as defense minister when he went to US, Advani was aware but kept quite.
His Dhoti was removed, but he kept quite.
What was his statement "US laws are such , we and everyone has to comply". Not everyone does it. In this situation in which our ministers were subjected, China would have torn apart US.

"Retired scientists who have not proved their worth when the responsibilities were assigned to him "... Dear Aftab, why are you demeaning the retired scientists? Despite the nuclear embargo, India has reached great technological sophistication in the Fast Breeder Technology, it has been able to export Heavy water, it has been able to build nuclear reactors.... so what more worth do you want? the lack of uranium is not their making... India is not mining them properly in the north east.
please tell me which scientist was involved in the drafting of the nuclear deal? Please remember, all the scientists initially raised their objections to the deal.
"If you remember that our team had litrally walked out of discussion when US were asserting pressure and were pressurising to accept things that would have been determental to our freedom to conduct research & trials. "
Have you read the draft? How do you say india succeeded in pressurising america? if you look at the draft, america has got the cake and eaten it too. it has treated india as a second class country, and has given no assurance to india about supplies in case of shortage and bad events.
"Ignore BJP. They are shameless fellows. " That the statement has come from YOU, it is understandable.
"China would have torn apart US. " Has it happened?

People are singing on Congress at Restaurants, parks, streets, buses and trains where they meet. Congress smell goes globally. Smelly Congress will reach at the climax before Elecions. SHAMELESS PEOPLE WHO WRITE FOR MONEY!
There is nothing new now .All of us know, how the Foreigners especially Americans and their legal Experts ( Wolves )always want to ensure their right to proclaim " King can do no wrong. American intrusion is unaviodable and permitted under agreement. The Accused country can not go out of the onerous unwarranted / unintented commitments also. Americans are ruthless. But if they want to arm twist a country, they are street smart to do it with legally permitted agreement and clinically perfect. They are after all shrewdly safeguarding their rights of intrusion by inclusion/ omission of clauses in an ambiguous and wague manner.

With ambiguities , Mighty Brother becomes right invariably
We shall surely go for deal. Anyway we are not going to use any nuclear weapons. And for sure we already have some nuclear bombs for our safety. Just like North Korea also assumed to have kept at least 20 nukes under table. For us deal is necessary to keep up with our growing energy demands.

Just for the 5% power that we r gonna produce from the nuclear reactors should we sacrifice our right to forigen policy and toe the line of USA'a forigen policy.... U r saying growing demand of power......The maximum amt. of power that can be produced by nuclear fuel is just 5% of total required. The growing demand for power can be met with the most non-polluting and renuable power sorce such as solar power, power generated by waves, wind power etc. and they are the most non-hazardous and non-polluting and non-controversial forms of power generation. Pls donot see the deal in isolation....as Hyde act applies to the deal and even the hazardous materials produced in the reactor should also be taken into account....till date there has been no sure and safe way of disposing the nuclear waste..... Think abt it....

Just to update a dumb fellow like you, both these scientists are Brahmins from Tamil Nadu, one of the most talented communities of India. I would also like to add that there are other talented communities as well.

if communists are such idiots, how come west bengal and kerala are ahead of other states with respect to most of the national indexes?
Indian Scientists consent need to be taken before signing the draft...Illiterate politicians don't know what are the implications of going for Nuclear deal and what is IAEA draft, but still go for / against it...We Indians blindly support the political parties whom we trust....Let us listen what scientist say about it...

Most of the experts are harping about not specific mention of "Fuel Supply assurance" and that is why this deal is bad. In my opinion no sane person on the earth will give you fuel supply assurance since its a strategic fuel. Its not a normal petroal or coal. Expecting fuel supply assruance is foolishness. The fact is India does not have fuel nor latest technology. This deal will give "unassured" fuel but sure shot technology which i think the best we can get.
