disclose the agreement
by Stew India on Jul 08, 2008 05:39 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is quite ridiculous. As a lawyer who has negotiated deals with the government before, I know that none of the agreements that the government signs has a confidentiality clause precisely because every agreement may need to be submitted to Parliament. I support the nuclear deal because it will increase our nuclear power availability and dont have a problem separating defence and civilan nuclear stations (which should be separated anyway) but I dont see the logic of what Mukerjee is saying. He gives the impression he has something to hide. They should simply table the agreement in parliament and let it be available with every single person. If it has details of defence establishments (which it shouldnt since it relates to civilain stations only), then make it available to a parliamentary committee at least.

You are absolutey right. This only creates doubts in the minds of supporters. They definitely have something to hide. Also, all the countries in the nuclear club will get a complete copy of the deal anyway as they need to approve it.

There are Military Nuclear establishments which would be out of IAEA purview. These establishment have to be clearly identified and separated. Many such information could be for selected audience only.

Let's BJP did not have full information about our nuclear development till the time they formed the Government. Once they were in Government, they had full access to it.

[Ofcourse, if you have a Defence Minister like George Fernades who took out confidential defence report and started flaunting in press conference even after he ceases to be a Minister, then you can not help.]

WHEN THEY CAN'T UNITE FOR THE SAKE OF NATION.
HOW CAN YOU EXPECT THEY CAN KEEP SECRECY.
HOWEVER GOVERNMENT HAS ALREADY SUBMITTED A SUMMARY TO THE ALLIED PARTIES.
PM HAS ALREADY TOLD EVERYBODY THAT HE WILL BRING IT TO PARLIAMENT FOR DETAILED DISCUSSION BUT ONLY AFTER A NEGOTIATION AT IAEA MEETING. WE HAVE TO BELIEVE OUR PRIME MINISTER. NOBODY SHOULD HAVE doubt for his ability.

I am replying to the message of Indian, which has been reported for abuse. Communists have been traitors from the beginning. They supported Chinese in the Indo-Chine war. Even today their cadres say that their goal is to hoist red flag atop the red-fort and extent Chinese boundary till Indian ocean. These chinese agents should be dealt with sternly.

CPIM leaders in Kerala are corrupt and biggest communal. It is because of their communal policies that RSS has got roots in Kerala. I am proud to say that I am Keralite supporting RSS. But most of the Hindus in Kerala are afraid to openly admit they are supporeters of a Hindu party as they will be stamped as communal by others. They are afriad of the reaction of their neighbours who may be a Thomas or a Mohammed and they don't want to poject themselves as communal infront of these Thomas and Mohammeds.

It is for sure that in the very near future BJP will be able to form a government in Kerala an that will mark the end of Kerala's woes.

Very good : Deal cannot be shared with people ???
by Indian Indian on Jul 08, 2008 05:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Everything is going in the right direction for the congress as per plan. The govt. will fall soon. The deal will not be gigned(Sardaar has no Intention to get it signed). The media blitz and all the hue and cry over the Nuke deal was to put cover over the 4 year of dark ages of this govt. This govt. was a total failure and every MP was worried how are we going to go back to over voters in 2009. The deal is a face saver for this non-performing govt. It will fall soon, but as most of the people on this forum thinks 1000s of Indian voters will think 'Sardaar sacrificed his govt.' and he will also join Maino Antonia as a great Martyr...

This creates doubts in the mind of those that support the treaty. You cannot share it only when you are signing a pact that is bad for the country.

Stupid argument!
by Mahesh on Jul 08, 2008 05:33 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

They should have taken the principle opposition party into confidence by sharing the text with it because tomorrow this government might go and the opposition might be ruling the country. Anyway in any country the ruling party takes the opposition in to condidence on such national issues. But this is Congress and they follow their crooked ways.

The Left's Opposition not only to Nuclear but also to all the development. Here is the details source: Economic Times
by Lakshmanan on Jul 08, 2008 05:31 PM  Permalink

In insurance and civil aviation, the Left prevented the government from raising the FDI cap.

- The Pension Fund Regulatory Development Authority bill, seeking to put the pension fund in charge of private companies and invest the pension money in stocks, languished because of the Left's refusal to back it in Parliament.

- The UPA government's proposal to sell off shares from Indian banks and allow more foreign banks to operate from here ran aground as the Left refused to back the government's banking reforms.

- The Left demanded a review of the 2003 Electricity Act brought by the then BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government even as the UPA government was pushing for its implementation.

- The Left wanted the employees' Provident Fund interest rate to be fixed at 9.5 per cent. The government decided to keep it at 8.5 per cent.

- The government was forced to shelve its decision to disinvest 10 per cent share in Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL).

- The Left resisted the government's proposal to bring FDI in the retail sector.

- There was protracted tussle between the government and the Left over allowing private agencies to modernise airports.

- But it was in foreign policy that the Left clashed most vehemently with the government. It wanted the UPA government not to enter into any strategic alliance with the US administration.

- Finally, it was the Manmohan Singh government's resolve to go ahead with the India-US nuclear deal th
