what a mess
by Sameer on Jul 05, 2008 08:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What is the need for nuclear deal? Even its most voceferous supporters concede that nuclear energy cannot contribute more than 7% of total energy needs of India and that too, it will take decades to meet that goal.

There is something fishy about this whole episode. Is MMS and Sonia working for India or America?

True ...very true it would take a decade to bear fruition in our tie-up with the USA for nuclear energy.

Ain't we reaping dividends today what the then Finance Minister, Mr Manmohan Singh began in the late 70s and early 80s in opening up investments for foreign players to boost indian economy.

Patience is the key and you will notice the change. Mr AJ Abdul Kalam only speaks in terms of what is good for the country and we should all respect his views

MMS was not even on the scene in 70 and 80s.

It was ex PM Narsimha Rao who initiated reforms and MMS just followed his guidance.

MMS signed Dabohal-Enron deal in a hurry in 1993 which bankrupted Maharshtra electricity board and put enormous presure on the India's foreign exchnage.

In this tenure, MMS has not sold a single public sector undertaking- as compared to NDA government which was reducing government role in industries.

MMMS is a good babu- he will do what he is told. He does not have a vision. Nuclear deal fiasco is a good example. He did not discuss this with NDA, not even his own alliance partners. He just wants people to believe that what he is doing is right. Democracies don't run that way.

Oh really.... NDA constituents of the deal are suffering from amnesia.. save for Mr AJ Abdul Kalam and Brijesh Mishra.

As regards the alliance partners, you will recall that MMS had the approval of his cabinet to go ahead with the deal a year ago.. the Left is now harking just to please the Chinese commies and for their ideological differences with the USA

I agree with this. Thanks to Narasimha Rao who had the vision for the contry and was a smart and experienced politician. Otherwise congress as useless party which does not know anything other than dynasty politics. MMS is just a puppet now and was also the same when he was FM in ninties.

If MMS thinks the deal is in the interest of the country why dont he make the IAEA safeguards for india public... why is he hiding it? He should understand that country means 1.1 billion people and not just the MMS and congress party. We have the right to know the details. Taking a side without knowing the details of the draft is foolishness.

India;s target for nuclear power is 16000MW by 2020.

At present India has nearly 90,000MW total capacity, only 3500 MW from nuclear (3%).
India would add 20, 000 MW every year ( non nuclear), so nuclear even if all the goals are met would be still less than 7%.

BTW, wind energy produces 10,000MW in India, three times nuclear.

Nuclear Deal
by BS on Jul 05, 2008 08:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its a pity that personal ego of political parties are obvershadowing important issues. Left parties have made a fool of themselves by deciding to ditch the government on wrong issues.

For congress this is blessing in desguise becasue Left parties have failed to capitalise on price rise issue by spending all their energy on Nuclear issue.

Also kudos to Congress. They have checkmated Left parties using SP.

At the end of the day, Left parties have lost in all fronts and soon are destined for extinction.

If this treaty is neccery for country then pm
should go to public & disclose all the relevent
factors related to nuclier deal. Let the people of india decied about deal, then only left will realise what they are opposing is true of false.
All political parties of india must discurse proes& cones of deal& decide it is benificial for the country or not.

How can India discuss this problem except through its elected representatives? How do you propose that the people of India can come to a decision?
