blind opposition to the nuclear deal
by ravi kumar on Jul 03, 2008 07:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

all parties are blindly opposing the nuclear deal , without any valid reason whatsoever.
BJP initiated the deal during the NDA rule , but are now opposing it for obvious reasons. the deal is worth 10's of thousands of crores and the corrupt politicians stand to get a slice of this investment.
UNPA are opposing it because they gain nothing from the deal personally. they are not bothered whether the country stands to gain or not.
LEFT parties are opposing it because they have taken hundreds of crores from china and have to bow to their diktat.
CONGRESS is pushing through the deal so that they can get their commissions from the suppliers.

what all the politicians do not see is that:

Nuclear fuel is the fuel of tomorrow when fossil fuels run out.

Building reactors and ramping up nuclear power capacity is a long gestation project running to 10 - 20 years . if you begin now you will the power around the year 2020.

politicians are all blinded by their personal and narrow party considerations and are not recognisisng the country's requirements.

the LEFT parties aay that fighting inflation is more important , but thats a short term goal .long term projects like the nuclear project which ensures power for our children are equally important.

WHAT WE NEED NOW IS A PUBLIC SHOW OF HANDS IN FAVOUR OF THE NUCLEAR DEAL AS THE POLITICIANS FIGHT IT OUT BECAUSE OF THEIR NARROW AND SHORTSIGHTEDNESS.

Ravi Kumar,
1) Did NDA govt., "initiate" THIS Deal? They had some talks about a possible lifting of "sanctions" by the USA. I thought there was nothing like this "123 Agreement" - nothing that had a shape.
2) We know why "left" parties are opposing the Deal. Say no more.
3) Not everyone opposing it is "anti-USA" or "pro-left". For example, it has been reported that at best this Deal will add only another 5-8% over existing capacity. All this trouble, all these controls, ONLY for another 8% added to our bijli?
4) The per unit cost of that power will be much more expensive than power generated by conventional means. How can one accept that when it is the same current?
5) Why is the indigenous research reactor "Sirrus" (?) to be shut down, as part of the Deal? No answer to that yet.
6) When you buy something the "Buyer Beware" principle applies. You should ask all questions BEFORE you buy - not afterwards. Now, neither the Indian Govt., nor the Americans are answering some of these questions.
7) If this Deal goes through, India may not have monies to focus on "Thorium Research". We have huge stocks of Thorium. But we need to learn how to utilise it to produce electricity. Self-sufficiency in the crucial area of energy is very desirable. If you rely on someone for it, they WILL DICTATE TERMS. They will exploit you. That is how the world IS.
8) I agree with you that our "Hindu" politicians will play the "Minority" card. Merit of an issue does not matter.

Look at how We Indians we ripped by the so called "Power Companies" a la Enron. We cannot seem to use the power to the full capacity supposed to cost Rs 5/ unit. Now we are told Power from the New Nuclear Vendors will cost us Rs 10/ per unit or ... like Enron?

How the Congress mismanaged the N-deal
by James Bond on Jul 03, 2008 05:25 PM  Permalink

Had Congress really wanted, it would have forwarded Nuclear Deal when Communists were nuking the nandigram. But, they do not perform on one hand and keep an eye on winning next election by hook or crook. Amar Singh who was abusing Congress till 7-months back has suddenly become their blue eyed.

Congress greed cannot be measured as party after having lost 2/3 of Kashmir to pakistan, losing 1962 war, releasing Qutorocchi money allowing him to take away tax payers' money just with a click. This party still feel it has right to take part in election. It's a shame not only on Nehru family but on people of our country who vote. Unfortunately, those cannot write vote have right to vote. It's donkey-horse combined race.

The First Party of India Set Bad Example
by Kris iyer on Jul 03, 2008 08:30 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

As the first party of free India, Congress was given the chance to rule India continually for about 50 years. It MISUSED the chances, again and again. It set a bad example for all other political parties.
After Indira Gandhi, unfortunately, Congress has had MEDIOCRE leaders, surrounded by sycophants with no "vision for India". Indira Gandhi herself, reportedly, once joked, "I may be the only man in my cabinet!!". Her time and the present time can be described in terms of China in the 19th century, under the last Empress Dowager. I won't go on with the description because this is not the time to offend Congress men.
Congress simply has NOT got what it takes to be a great national party. Our misfortune.
They are neither secular, nor for the poor, nor for the private sector, nor for an efficient public sector, nor for a corruption-free administration, nor for high-quality tertiary education, nor for an adequate infra-structure for the country - they are never FULLY into anything.
It is time they heeded Mahatma's advice and became a "social service" organisation, leaving governance to others.

But let us not forget their achievements though. They made India a leader of the Non Aligned Movement. Yup we stood shoulder to shoulder with the other poverty infested nations of the world. Congress also tried to battled "imperialist" forces around the globe, but could not build a single road at home. They also helped create the largest mass of poverty in the world. And last but not least, they had the Chinese humiliate India when their glorious leader Nehruji was kicked in his nuts by the Chinese. So if you look congress does have achievements

Rajan Shah,
I share your humour. Congress ensured that the world would not take India seriously. Only after the NDA govt's Pokhran II, countries took India more seriously. That is a FACT, sad though it is, the world is like that.
Under NDA rule, much more was achieved, although I did not agree with their TV campaign on "India Shining". Sometimes it is better not to say too much, too often, about one's achievements. India was a better place under the NDA. There was much more optimism and confidence, in the younger generation, particularly. They did not stop with announcing many plans - as the Congress does. They actually implemented them. In the golden quadrilateral or sarva siksha abhiyan, they implemented well many programmes. They had done somethings the Congress could not do in 50 years.

It is in fact time that they dismantle the congress party. Their aim was to win freedom for India. That was achieved 61 years back and the party should have been immedieately dismantled.
