1. This is a heinous crime.
2. I doubt if the people behind this crime will be captured - they would have earned enough money to protect themselves and even if captured, fight a winning battle against hapless victims.
3. There is nothing called integrity in the medical profession any more. Doctors are people we should be most careful of. These people are only after our money, even if it means keeping us ill so that we visit them on and on.
4. It is strange that Sakil's father is asking for govt jobs and is more worried about the compensation not given rather than the loss and pain that his son is actually facing. If this demand is met, you may find millions of poor in India selling kidneys and then asking for govt jobs as compensation. This kind of demand should not be taken seriously. What the govt should do but WILL NOT is to replace the kidney of these victims, maybe with theirs who are behind the crime.
5. Salim, who is falling for a 150/- per day job, has 5 children!!! How does he feed them? I hope he is also not asking for govt jobs.

Long term solution:
All vacancies, including daily wages ones, should be updated in a centralised database and who gets the job for what pay should also be updated. This can handle such situations as well as those of exploitation in other jobs, including big sectors like IT.

Every surgery should be recorded in front of a family member.

Well what do you guys think sitting on the sidelines? Do you think you can change the situation? In fact the change is happening at a very fast pace but unfortunately it's happening against you. BTW, the people who are trying to change the system are well organized and very powerful. Let me tell you some background.
Health insurance is one of the most profitable businesses, especially if the service centers (hospitals) are owned by the insurance companies itself and when there are no regulations or standards in the service.
The health service industry needs regulations, immediately. The patient (customer) is at the mercy of the doctor and/or hospital management. He could be misdiagnosed, undertreated or overbilled and yet he wouldn't know anything. In India we don't have billing standards, diagnostic reporting, medical history reporting, laws or anything. We are not ready for private health care and yet the change is happening vary fast. Private hospitals are mushrooming everywhere and almost every%2

Public Awareness is the need of the hour
by upindersingh on Jan 30, 2008 06:33 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

All the comments might be right in their own standing but the need of the hour is Public awarness. Any guesses how that can be achieved in real terms not in the way of saying all must be educated etc. We have spread the word of Polio Campaign, Family planning, etc. so this message also needs to be spread across.

Nothing will happen
by use man on Jan 30, 2008 05:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Nothing will be happened. The busines will be back as usual within a couple of days, because the nexus is so strong. Where is the high profile and conscious Indian Medical Association ? Where is the medical ethics ? There is no service. Everything is profession. Every one want money either by hook or crook. Medical profession right from education to the so called "service" is just a business for high profits. Destiny (or illness) brings the prey at their door steps. No law can take any action against the culprits because if the police arrests such criminals todays, there is judiciary to release them tomorrow. Prominent lawyers will appear on behalf of these criminals accepting huge fees. We all are corrupt from the root. There is no justice, nothing. The innocent and poor are the only sufferers. If you can kill these corrupt bastar..ds, do it in a cruel manner so that other bastar..ds will not dare to do such crimes.

nothing alarming
by Chanakya on Jan 30, 2008 05:43 PM  Permalink

on a serious note (jokes apart)- there is nothing surprising in this type of illegal and inhuman activities whether it concerns kidneys or women traffiking or child labour etc.etc. so long as our so called secular parties and secular government does not think about education to all, poverty removal by allocating and spending the budgets so sanctioned for specific projects like education, water, food, farming, etc. For the past 60 years we have grown only in population, illiteracy, poverty etc. in rural areas in particular. People would not even know the consequences of producing more than a kid - he himself being poor looking out for a labour job has 5 kids - that means another 5 people on the road begging for jobs at a later date. It is an alarming issue much more serious than these illegal activities. When the government always preaches of minority upliftments, they should also concentrate on sexual education, family planning for all etc. The law and order administration should be sincere in their efforts to keep the ordinary civilian protected from unscrupulous elements, greed for wealth and corruption should be eliminated from senior/political level etc.
Nothing is going to change by blogging in sites and expressing our anguish.
this case also would become another file resting in peace in one of the court rooms.
