It is pathetic that these brave souls who stake their lives so that we can live peacefully are poorly paid.Every body blames any body expect himself. Let every one of us do some introspection and think whether only our politicians, bureaucrats are dishonest, manipulating.

kya hm apne desh ke chahat ko apne constitution main samajh paaye hain ? kya hamare man main hamari constitution ka maksad hamesha jaaga hua hai? kya sab hai hamari constitution ka maksad? Chalo aaj mil kar apna gireban tatolen . Jai Mata DI. Vinit Mehra
Is it pay only that is the cause of the deficiency of offrs? Why is there no deficiency of jawans(Personnel Below officers Rank)? How does society and the bureaucrats treat our soldiers, particularly the officers? Why cant there be no side stepping into other Govt jobs for Service Officers to ensure adequate promotional avenues in the Services? Should standards be compromised in the making of officers(In fact there is already)? Is it the responsibility of the media only to talk about such issues,or,the bureaucracy ie the MoD, should state the actions they intend to take? Sir, THERE ARE MANY MORE QUESTIONS, THEY CAN BE ENDLESS; IS IT WORTHWHILE LISTING ALL, UNLESS THERE IS SOME BEGINING?

i just want 2 ask 1 thing. i had cleared d ssb interview 4 d 118 course, was medically fit but never got d call letter. i was told i got merit out. in d 119 course only 197cadets turned up. dn why d candidates like me were not called again. were we not fit enough 2 join d army 1 again. some would say dt v should have given d exam again, but if 4 some reason v were not able 2 dn y did d army left us.
10 percent of seats in our Parliament, State Assemblies and Municipal Coporations should be reserved for ex-servicemen. At least one post in the Council of Ministers both at the center and States should be awarded to ex-servicmen. This will not only be a fitting tribute to their selfless service, but will also act as an incentive for the youngsters to hjoin the armed forces.

There ought to be reservation in the IAS (and other such services) for ex-servicemen.

I don't agree. That will lead us on to the road to becoming a Hindu Pakistan. Reservations in Elected Houses is not a fitting tribute. Imitating Pakistan to solve Indian problems is not a wise idea. In Pakistan there is a permanent reservation for the army. Retired or in service. Let politicians Govern the country no matter how stupid they are. Not the army no matter how dedicated they are.

There never was a Hindu Porkistan..nor there will ever be! Don't compare chalk and cheese...I don't know why people let their paranoid tendencies make them believe hat Hindus will end up like muslims..
Nice article! In todays world, when itis all about money, honey, some boys are defying all odds and are joining the armed forces is really heartening. However, the rookies soon realise that they need money to be gentlemen. And by the time they realise they have lost on something, they have lost everything. I am in contact with half a dozen army officers who want to enter greener pasteurs. It might also be added, that those joining the army defying their parents, do not do it for money, and there will be some who will join the army only even if the pay scales were to be left at the present levels. It might also be added that NDA is the youghest competition in India; much tougher than the Civil Services examination, and anyone qualifying for NDA can do vitually anything, like the IAS officers, who have no dirth of opportunity even after they leave Government.
My hats off to these youngsters pursuing courses at NDA. They are true patriots. Coming to the question of low earnings, I think, a rule must be made which is like this. All elected politician's children must serve the defense at least 5 years. This way we can kill two birds with one stone. Chances of making corruption will not be there since they will think twice to contest polls. The second advantage is the short fall in officer's rank would be filled in one go. Hello, corrupt politicians, do you ever read these discussion board writing?
The leaders of this nation have to setup an example of good conduct. Corruption at govt. level sets up bad precedence for others and demoralizes the clean minds.
Neta's have to setup good examples. Instead all we hear of are scams and money gobbling at each and every level, be it the central or state govt. or the cops or administrative services.
We need leaders who can setup a good example before this country and world. Strength of a country is not its army but the honesty and integrity of its leaders.

The leaders are part of the people of the country. If a lot of people are corrupt, so will the leaders be.
In the name of patriotism people are brainwashed to worship defence forces! But that is where the maximum corruption is there!Politicians are responsible for setting up bad examples but unfortunately their qualities have percolated into defence forces!
All these things are ok but only after basic requirements are met.Quality of life of mojority Indians are pathatic to say the least. Politicians ensure there is perpetual poverty and ignorance so that they can ever exploit the people and loot the nation. Parochial approach of the people ensures no improvement in quality of life. Indians' biggest threat and weakness is their selfishness!

Hi Devdass. By concentrating on improving the life of the poor only, you cannot forget your defense forces. They are the ones who protect us. and if they are protected then I do not see any reason why you and me need to be protected or taken care of. Also the so called poor do not want to work. Ask the poor youth to join armed forces and tell them that atleast they would get Rs. 2000 for doing that rather than not having anything at all. They will run away from you that very minute. The majority of poor youth would like to remain so. You have improved the quality of your life by working hard. I am sure you wouldn't expect the politicians to offer an MNC job for you.
