the bull is not killed.
by Simhan on Jan 15, 2008 09:24 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In jallikattu the bull is not killed. When sports like this happen in foreign country people die to see it. In spain at the end of the show the matador kills the bull with his sword. that is what everybody goes to see.
here we dont kill the bull. more people get hurt then the bull. lay your hands of jallikattu.

CELEBRATING JALLIKATTU in a regulated manner is good for all. politics and blue cross, neednot intervenee unnecessarily as thereis no killing. All bulls are fed well and it is a freedom for the bull. Restricting is a harm for the bull(Freedom denied for the bull).

Are we a cultured & educated people
by madhu d on Jan 15, 2008 08:42 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

sir, it is sad to know that people are on hunger strike. but what have honorable suprem court has done is right. i would like to ask all the people, you say you are educated & you are working in various MNC's taking good salary and act to smart. but why you want to ill treat these animals. you know when these animals run you think that it is running for fun but you should know that because of fear it run like any thing and for you fun sake you would tourtier the animal. before the animal is made to run, i do not know what thinks would have done to the animals. at least once why dont you make your children run like bull and let all the people try to do what they do for bull. so be cultured and have some respect to the animals & let us not hurt the feelings of the animals. imagine if animals would have the capacity to talk & do think it would have allowed you to do it. i do not say we should leave our tradition, but thinks are changing and we are getting modernised, atleast in these passion we will change our self, at leaset we will have some respect to the animsl and nature. i think if they are vanished then the whole world is going to destroy.
by expressing my view, if i had hurt any bodys feeling i am sorry for it and i am expressing my view. so thanks and happy pongal to all and try to save the animals & do not put them in cruality.

Madhu - If these bulls could speak and talk, they would do better job than your incoherent rant. Who told you traditions should be thrown out into garbage can? Doing so will only make you holding garbage in your hand, because the can is filled with tradition!

Madhu:

You are somewhat right. Jalli-kattu WAS a dignified sport originally. It was a sign of bravery where a few brave men tried to tame bulls. But TODAY, a few thousand morons chase one bull pulling its tail, scaring it by blocking the narrow pathway and at least 6-8 so-called brave MEN cling to the poor animal trying to pull it down. How is this bravery? Shouldn't it be one-on-one. It just shows how tribal and animists these folks are. The supreme court is right in blocking it and the way out to maintain "tradition" would be for the government to set proper rules on taming the bulls and not let more than on individual to tame a bull.

cruelty
by hinduvictor on Jan 15, 2008 08:32 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If they are so terribly worried abt cruelty to animals, why dont they ban eating of these animals, where animals are butchered in the most inhuman way.Or if non vegetarians are so fond of eating why dont they eat these animals after they die their natural death.Getting jallikattu banned is only a publicity stunt for all these animal rights activists. Why dont they go protest in front of muslim houses which kill cows and christian houses which kill pigs and eat them. They want to ban an inane sport.Agreed there are injuries and the animals do suffer a bit but this is miniscule when compared to the cruelty at the abbatoirs and the butcher shop. This is another christian conspiracy to defame India, Hindus and Hindu festivals

Forget about religion.
The message is that Maneka should protest in front of those ppl who eat these animals, rather than trying to ban a sport which has been existing from such a long time.

by alert on Jan 15, 2008 08:30 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

These all are pure lies. See the video, you will know the truth.
SC would not have given this verdict had the Jallikkattu been organized sensibily.
It is not just 4 persons but hundreds chasing a single bull, pulling the tail, suffocating them.
Let it be organized in a MAIDHAN with one man controlling one bull as was the ancient pratice.
( you can see that in VEERAPANDIYA KATTABOMMAN).
Killing the animals for flesh is bad, but this type of jallikkattu is much worse.

Absolutely agreed ! The way it is conducted today these bulls are terrified of such a huge crowd of people. Even I would be terried to run in the narrow pathway between these taunting morons. NONE of these guys would be a match for these ferocious bulls ONE-ON-ONE. They are just a bunch of cowards piling on the poor animal to bring it down and grab the cash tied to its horns.

Let cow run a race. Whats wrong and how does this become cruel? I don't know much about this race called Jallikattu, however, I do understand that it is not more cruel than a horse race with a fat guy as a jockey. These things have to be done through regulations not through courts.
