Many argue that we should not do anything in lanka bcoz LTTE has killed Rajiv Gandhi. We could have avoided sacrificing our former PM for that matter, had the govt then acted with shrewedness... they lacked it and even now i'm not sure if we have it.
Tamilians in large numbers dont cause any problem anywhere, as someone has mentioned. Its only bcoz of sinhalease majority lanka denying equal rights to tamils, the problem has erupted.
I agree LTTE should be condemned for killing Rajiv. But then how do u justify lankan army killing scores of innocent tamilians in the name of wiping out LTTE? Should not India which has a tamil state, intervene for the welfare of lankan tamils?
Is it right on the part of lanka to go on killng tamils? Thats why if they give equal rights to tamils, then LTTE can be persuaded to give up its Eelam cause, as the author has suggested.
But then that will require practical thinking from the part of rajapakse which is not seen to be there anyway...
LTTE need not be supported from indian soil, wherein they have killed our former PM. But the cause of lankan tamils should be supported and we should rein in lankan govt on that point.
India is very poor in monitoring, controlling and dominating its neighbours.Because of this, India has sufered a lot. First take the case of Bangladesh. We have totally neglected the happenings of Babgladesh and did not do any dominance or influence in their region, because of that islamic extrmists entered into power in Bangladesh and gave a lot of head ache in the border, particluarly Bangladeshi Rifles and anti India among the people have been fueled up.Bangladeshi territory is still used for anti india activities. In Afhanistan, also we did not do anything so that Pakistan entered there, so that Taliban grown and we have problems like more Mujahideen attacks in Kashmir and also Fligh hijacking etc.Considering Nepal,India was as usual before during Nepal Maoists and Kingdom conflict anyhow interrupted because of high Indian media and public uproar. In Pak occupied Kashmir, where we deliberately know that place is used for militants training against Kashmir, our Indian intelligence unit like RAW and IB did nothing to disrupt or destabilise it. Coming finally to Srilanka, if they keep mum as usual, any other hostile country like US,China or even Pakistan will put up a base in Srilankan harbour pointing their guns towards India (Chennai). I am totally confused, what our intelligence are doing.There are lot of works to be done in our neighbouring countries and if they work effectively, India wont face any problem militarily,economically.It will be a completely terror free stat

The fraternal bloodshed that is persists gets i vicious and gory in ever hardening hatreds amongst two communities sitting cheek -by jowl for past several centuries.Humanism and vital strategic concerns of Indian State requires that both foreign policy of India and naval threats from expanding Chinese domination over Indian Ocean needs to be taken note of what Col Athwale's well articulated formulations of the dangers , we face in Indian Southern Peninsula and irredentism of the Dragon over Singhalese territory may cause..It is Chines extending its girdle from chain of Islands Coco in Bay of Bengal and ending up in hot waters of Arabian Sea at Pakistan's Port of Gawadar.... Our Manmohanomics self deluded PM is sold onlyto economic cooperation to carry on with thesly spokesmen of the Dragon's coils in Beijing beginning, tomorrow. . LTTE suffers heavily from the hand of Sri Lankan army. They sytarts suuicide attacks on VIPs and other prime targets in Colobom.
2. SL asks india for military assistance immediately. Under pressure from Tamil parties india declines to assist SL.
3. SL approaches pakistan for Military assistance. Pak support them with shipments of arms and ammunition. and send some troops to SL.
4. Indian hegemony over SL is over. Pak instals some radars to monitor indian activites. India's national security under threat. SL airforce jets piloted by Pakistan pilots targetrs hindu shrines in and around jaffna cusing several hindus die.
5. Hindu organisation pressures the central government to protec Hindus of SL. RAW clandstinely sned support to LTTE and some Black cat commandos are now in SL , they are fighting against Pakistani army in SL. Pak suffers heavy loss from NSG and LTTE.
6. Pakistan suffers heavy loss. They instruct the ISI to do some terrorist acts in india and done a kargil type operation.
7. Indian government reacts this strongsly and indian army deployed along the indo pak border.

Pak simply will not have the resources for such acts. Cold war got over. And India is now rich. Pak is not not rich.
Colonel Athale has written a well balanced article.But the kind of silence that our govt is showing, they will react only after SL blows up in ethnic conflict and refugees and other states of world reach the island state. It is evident from the snub Manmohan gave Mahindra Rajapaksa by refusing to attend the Independence Day of SL.Typical escapist diplomacy. Wait for another tragedy to happen. GOD Help India from its POLITICAL (So called )LEADERS.
No State can 'productively' govern more than 2 million citizens. Decentralize' 602 districts in India & Lanka into States or Cantons as in Switzerland.
