Similar experience

I dont live in US, but it seems even Asia doesnt know much of indians. When I took a txi in singapore, the taxi driver who was very friendly asked me where I am from. I replied 'I am an indian' He was kind of shocked and when I asked him reason he said 'So indians are also fair, I thought indians are only dark in color' I was amused by his knowledge and he gave me a dry smile after knowing I am an indian as he expected me to be an american. The second incident was when I was in Taipei, one of my taiwanese colleague was talking about how chinese and taiwanese women prefer white men more than the yellow men. I was surprised 'wat is this yellow men?' He told me this is the way they classify 'White people, Yellow people(chinese, japanese etc), Orange people(Indians, Pak,UAE) and black people'. I should say I was so amused that I asked him 'I hope all these four types of people have the same color of blood flowing in them?'..He 'obviously' didnt understand my qs.
One more misconception that people in SE asia have is that India,Pak,Bangladeshi, Sri Lanka,Maldives are all ones and are all indians. I was not very amused at this too..

Dont go by exceptions. Exceptions are not truths or facts.

Well exceptions dont come if it is not true. So you think we dont have fair people in India and ther are mere exceptions.. I can guess where you from and am not surprised on your beliefs.

I think this man has overdescribed the subject.
A person studying in a multinational institute and interacting with an indian can't be so ignorant that he thinks a country which is a nuclear power has no electricity. Either that man has no brain or this writer has raised this issue to make this article to get attention.
Please don't make such small issues of our own country.

i Think u r not much aware of the fact sir.
1) Most of the villages still do not have electricity
2) Even cities (may be excluding few metros) do not have continuous power.

If u r healthy does not mean all are healthy. I hope u understand it.

Sitting on rediff.com does not give insight about the country.

Yes i agree
The author seems to have grown up only in cities like Delhi. Still many villages have not even 2 hours of electricity per day. Many people go witout food atleast once a day continuously for 2 or 3 days. Those who are born in cities want all the luxuries like electricity, public transport, fly overs etc. That is why people like bugger like Chandrababu are getting lot of importance who think that Agriculture is no use and expect poor people to perish

I disagree as 70% population in India does not know about own country like state names, state capitals, economy of India, secularism etc. In our country itself we don't leave any stone unturned to insult other Indian states residents, other religions ... RAJ THAKRE SAHEB is one of the such examples.

probably, it would be an information for you that India has got little recdognition only because of IT and Bollywood - otherwise, bloody politicians have ruined this nation and its honor.

Actually at times the american rogues ask such questions purposefully..they want to humiliate and insult you. Many even being aware of what is india like today ask such stupid questions. They are being tought all over in School about Great land called America and they believe to live in fools paradise. In reality many european and Asian countries are superior to USA in every possible way!

We are looking inside, we are aware of issues in India. The question here is does America have any moral right to insult an Indian..in the name of ignorance?

My experience in USA..too was similar although not as exaggerated as mentioned above. Basically americans are not only ignorant about many things, they are plain dumb also at times. They have a minority of intelligent people who are running the country. To say never forget who the top boss is like :) Bush himself represents an average dumb american !!

Hi,

Before we point point our Fingers on the Americans, let me also want to descibe my experience with the North Indians in Delhi during my short stay over there for 6 months.

The Knowledge of North Indians about South India is even more pathetic. They all think that all the South Indians speak only one language that is "Madarasi", they don't even understand that there are 4 states in south and all of them speak different language which are very much unique. They all have some misconceptions about the Southies that all the south Indian can't speak any other languate other than Madarasi, South Indians are less Inteligence and ill-mannered and can't fit any other jobs other than the Junior Assistants and lower Division Clerks, there are no big Industrial Power Houses in South India. Somehow they feel that the south Indians are less competent and never deserves a better respect.

This had happened a way back in 1999, which is totally contrary to Truth. The very fact is that we south Indians are far more developed in all the aspects when compared to North India.

When the people of our Country has some kind of misconceptions about their Brothers, you can't expect somebody who lives more than thousands of miles to understand us better.

I cared a damn about what the North Indian think of us and i never tried to explain about the fact to them and waste my time. I only laughed at their ignorance. You don't need to give more importance by bothering others ignorance.

RE:First teach lesson for India..

Actually, there is less fight between North and South (with the exception of Tamil Nadu, which continues to be one of the most separatist states in India). But there is definitely fight between West India (esp. Maharashtra) and the rest of India. Hon. Pratibha Patil was literally pasted on the Presidential chair by Maharashtrians, despite most of the remaining public of the country supporting Abdul Kalam. Consistently, one can notice India being represented by Mumbai and Pune on manipulated literature, despite the fact that Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Noida are way advanced than any of those two backward cities. If at all the only North-South divide I see is between Punjabis and Tamils.
