We Should have got Kitty hawk
by Guest on Mar 04, 2009 02:40 PM  Permalink

I have read a lot of irrelevant crap about our history, about IIM,about RSS,and the list goes on.Guys we are talking about whether an old aircraft carrier is suitable or not 4 our navy stick 2 da topic for godssake!! Some one mentioned the kitty hawk's steam propulsion negatively. Dude the brits are switching to steam from nuclear power bcoz its quite expensive. Mind you I have nothing against Nuke propulsion.. I just feel its not a good idea to reject a ship like the kitty hawk just because its conventionally powered.
Why am i supporting the kitty hawk over the russians carrier - Airpower. in my opinion ins vikramaditya will be the weakest aircraft carrier of the 21st century bcoz it will be armed with weak MIg 29 derivatives with limited range and payload because of the crappy STOBAR config. How can you compare STOBAR and steam catapults?Besides if u want to operate a proper aircraft carrier with good power projection capabilities u need steam catapults because they offer better thrust to aircraft hence better range and payload. Morever the kitty hawk will carry atleast 48 f18's in addition to 30 heli and radar AEW aircraft. The INS vikramaditya will carry 16 mig 29 k and 10 more helicopters :) U can see the diff right here. I have nothing against russians or americans unlike some racist ppl here..But it is very clear that the russians are armtwisting us unfairly. $4bill is ridiculous for a carrier like gorshkov..this shows how powerful the russian lobby is..

americans, rediff and the kitty hawk

now a days it has become a fashion to support america, its causes and reasons in India--at the cost of its traditional and time tested friends--than on the merit of the things in view. The Admiral Gorshkov purchse is by now a closed deal and there is nothing in the present world compelling us to reopen it in the negative. Moreover, we know russians and they know us and nobody or anything in this world have to teach about the good or bad and they would do good only when they are seen not coming in between us. Not only that, going with Americans would be equal to dragging India back to a minimum of 20years from the present level itself. The countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and even Pakistan to say less about the present Japan would be enough to see the result of toying and coying with America and Americans.

The problem is that Russians are not sticking to their part of deal. India has already paid contacted money. Russia is asking for more. The aircraft carrier which was supposed to be free, now cost alomst 3 billion USD. In addition is project is late by couple of years.

USS Kitty Hawk
by balaji ramani on Feb 28, 2008 03:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Does anybody on this discussion board know anything about the Kitty Hawk??

It is the oldest aircraft carrier in the US Navy. It was commissioned in 1961 and has been in active service ever since. It is the last of the US carriers that run on steam power (the rest of the fleet are now nuclear).

So should India accept a ship that is 47 years old, even if it is given for free???

Can India afford to maintain & run such an old carrier???

These are the questions that need to be asked rather than needless fights over US slavery or Commie slaver!!!

Currently Indian Navy is on Modernisation Plan but Aircraft carrier Viraat is likely to retire in 2010 and Russian Gorshkov if struck deal will join Navy in 2011 as Per todays Report.India requires atleast 2 Aircraft carrier at any given point of time and if US offers ready Air base platform with F/18 Typhoon then it will be Advantage India for us. Moreover Even if Gorshkov is purchased then Indian Navy strength will be increased like any thing.
Right now India requires Atleast 50 New warships or other options is
5 Nuke Subs

With the financial muscle India now has it should not settle for someone's "hand-me-down". I think it should now order specially designed weapons for itself. This decision making should not be in the hands of the politicians - they screw up everything - much like the Indian cricket team. Albiet, the deal should be managed by the military with guidance from the best brains in the IIMs - these guys know how to negotiate. Its high time the government started using India's brain power as well.

Who said the IIM guys know how to negotiate? Bad assumption. A negotiation specialist knows how to negotiate. An IIM grad knows how to crunch numbers and make presentations.

Today the country lacks Lord Ram to crush the heads of Ravan poping up in China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Sri Lanka, Burma, Middle East and other parts of India and the world. Today's impotent brainwashed generation is totally at the mercy of secularists and communists. Its our mistake from generations that we bowed reverentially to every aggressor. We allowed gave up our Dharma and adopted culture of invaders, which has resulted in the present anarchy. If Indians had fought for their rights, the world would have been a peaceful place today without the scourge of terrorism.

No need for all these Weapons
by JasonBourne on Feb 28, 2008 10:49 AM  Permalink

I would say Indians don't need any weapons to beat any nation - even US, coz we have such a huge population, which gets hot even if slightly tempted that they can beat any nation in WAR just with their hands and even win the WAR.....What you all poeple say?
United we stand and no one can stand us even with a nuclear weapon in their hands :)

Sahadevan KK, What Great Gandhiji has to do with your stinking Communists? He is not your leader. He is India's leader. Your leaders are not Indian born. They are consist of White and Chinamen. You dont deserve to mention Gandhiji's name.
