Easiest Solution: SC should kick the aarse of Raj Thackeray for inciting hatred and violence against North Indians. By the way, I am NOT from North India.

No short cut solution . Develop UP,Bihar and Orissa all problems will be solved. Amitabh has shown the way by opening a school in UP.Take example from South(TN,KN,AP) and Gujarat from where few people ever migrate to mumbai or mh nowadays.

India will remain united and overcome such problems. We are not so fragile that a Raj Thakrey or Abu AAzmi can break it. I used to always fight with my brother when I was a kid. Did that mean He's not my brother. We love each other. It's same with Indians. Marathis feel proud about Bhagwan Buddha and Nalanda and I'm sure Bihari's respect Shivaji, Lata, Tendlya etc.
I hope one day we will overcome these problems and learn to co exist peacefully.

Inefficiency and blaming others ....
by Praveen Choudhary on Feb 23, 2008 12:39 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This attitude of hating others is nothing new or isolated behaviour to Marathis - can tell you from personal experience.
I did my graduation from a University in Maharashtra - yes, i wasn't good enough to get a seat in my home state - half the students in our college were from different states (literally Jammu to Kerala); the other half reserved for Marathis. The pass percentages were in 75 to 80% among other states' students and 40 to 45% among Marathis. It is another matter that preferencially liberal awarding of marks in practical exams (by local professors to local students) also couldnt do much to increase their pass percentages.
The locals were always rude to outsiders.
Am not talking about Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, etc. - its a remote town which benefitted a lot economically, by the other state students coming in to study at different professional colleges and still they were always treated like unwanted outsiders.
Raj Thakeray is the peoples' leader and only expressing their views. This is not a publicity stunt or something, it is in their blood to blame others for their inefficiencies.

It is the same Maharashtra that gave us leaders like Tilak, Gokhale and Ambedkar but lost its direction now.

Hey Praveen -

Why go to a remote town in Maharashtra - all you brilliant magnificent non-Maharashtrians do try to build your own incredible home states to be the shining lights of this galaxy not just this world. Please please let maharashtrians wallow in their inefficiency and unintelligence. Please do us this favor.

For the record I graduated from College of Engineering - Pune and I never saw anything like what you have claimed about magnificently intelligent out of state students.

Praveen

Though born in Mumbai I had done my schooling in Gujarat and graduated from Fergusson College, Pune.

I never faced what you talk about because I took the trouble to learn the local language and mingle with them and their "til-gul ghya, gode-gode bola" ways.

My experience is diametrically opposite yours but today I oppose The Thakerays for their wrongly directed tirade that engulfs the Nation with their extremist ways and exclusionist politics ... that only lumpen vandals fall prey to.

Rahul, even I have quite a few Marathi friends and could even speak the language fluently. Its not the induviduals, but am talking about the social thinking thats pretty bad.

Yes, I was not a bright enough student to study in "collages" (or was it colleges) like VIT, COEP, PICT, etc. but I went to a college IN Maharashtra where most Marathi students were studying based on (linguistic) reservation.

Choudhry, You probably studied in a private college and got your admission through donation. Why dont you mention that ?? you are a lousy fellow.Probably studied in Tuljapur or Tasgaon ( that is really remote area) where mostly lousy rejects from other states come to study after paying huge donation. Private college students like you should better keep their mouth shut instead of speaking about merit and efficiency..

Ignorance is bliss
by Dare on Feb 23, 2008 12:25 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

wow man.. after reading several of the messages here I feel ignorance is really bliss.. I heard an uncontrollable Pacific Blue , couple of south indians, continually changing positions of ON and dare you type rhetoric of some sinha and mishra and sharma in these messages.. I shudder at the thought of have 1 billion indian citizens thinking so.. Thankfully most of them don't.. And to think that the bloggers here are atleast a graduate and then spitting this kind of venom rite from splitting the country to killing more people to asking for a Visa to come to the country to promising to make Mumbai more dirty if u dont allow my ilk (UP/Bihar).. unbelievable.. Thankfully the people I see around mostly is a graduate with a family 2 kids in a 1 room ktchen .. mother working to give the best food, clothes to kids and father working in a small scale company as a mechanic , sometimes as a panwala, sometimes as a taxi driver, sometimes as a dhobi to put money on the table, so they could manage the ever increasing prices for grocery, eductaion.. The father comes home with a hope that he will see his children succed and be successful in their careers so they dont have to struggle where he and his wife are.. Foe those pople, all ur debates and solutions mean nothing.. as an ode to all of them wherever they may be.. stop this divisive debate and politics

I agree, just as the economic revolution of the 90's overthrew the socialist policies of Nehru, a new revolution is required to end Hindi supremacy. India is a country of diverse language and no one language should be imposed on everyone. At the same time, people who move around should ensure that they do not dilute the lands they move into and learn the local language and adopt local culture. India can have unity only in diversity, any attempt otherwise will backfire. More so on Northies than anyone else.

Develop All reasons..
by jet on Feb 22, 2008 11:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Seems the issue in mumbai is with only people from UP/Bihar. The people in mumbai are not complaining about Telugus, Tamils, Kannadigas, Oriyas, Bengalis, Gujaratis,Punjabis and many other states. Only 2 states UP and Bihar which have no development are creating issues. These 2 states are becoming a burden on India with over population and no development. I dont here any news of investment or development in these states.Instead of electing leaders like Lalu and Mayawati who never talk about development and only talk about castes the people should elect leaders who talk about development. If these 2 states are developed and people get jobs in their own states then there will be no issues.Indians can work anywhere in India, that doesnt mean that u go and invade a place where people have worked hard and bought development. The problem is with the people as they are the ones who elect leaders. These leaders are deciding the path of the country. So the people should elect good leaders.

tell me one thing, is it the people's fault if their state is not developed! its l=not like these people do not want to make their lives better!
The problem is the corrupt politicians in these states! We should try and build a better political scenario in India(not only just these two states), not throwing these people around.

as if Maharashtra elects good leaders ..hahahahaha. The development in Mumbai has happened inspite of the politicians because of a presence of great entrepreneurs who by the way are mostly non-Marathi and due to the fact that Mumbai had some natural advantages like it was a port. World over it is the port cities which have developed first and then the hinterland. Not to say off course that UP and Bihar have great leaders. They have pathetic leaders and people should vote them out.

Rohit,
All the politians are more or less same but the fact is that maharashtrian leaders are any day better than our Lalus and Mayavatis...but again my opinion is that politians are reflection of our society. To improve the politics we have to improve ourselves. Its not just mumbai, ask any punjabi or gujarati or even delhite, they dont have good opinion about UP and BIHAR. When you talk about natural advantages, perhaps UP and Bihar are richer than any other states in terms of natural resources. The main problem is attitude of the people. The environment in our states is not good for industries. Latest example...we know what happen with reliance. People may come up with several reasons but the message that is passed on to industry is that the environment is not good for businesses.

You missed the other guys point, he was only trying to say the development in Mumbai has happened inspite of politicians. Now how Mumbai has developed and why Bihar & UP have not developed we can keep debating about that but will not lead to any worthwhile results. See people coming from UP/Bihar are coming there for livelihood, atleast they are not committing suicides as in Maharashtra and now you beat and threaten them to go back and hopefully commit suicide. And you say you have allowed Bhaiyas in Mumbai to do menial jobs, see India belongs to every Indian and I hope you are an Indian otherwise there is no point talking to you. Maharashtians also go to other places and maybe all over the world in search of greener pastures inspite of tremendous development (as per your views )would that stop. The same mentality was used successfully to garner votes spreading hate against south Indians not so long time ago. So think sensibly, if there are problems you should look for solutions beating poor taxi wallas and hawkers won't do any good.
