What about the laws/services of state of Maharashtra?
by Ashish Kanekar on Feb 15, 2008 01:13 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The Maharashtra state does provide services like a network of dams(outside Mumbai but within Maharashtra) and pipelines providing water to the city of Mumbai which has no river flowing through it for fresh water. Rest of India does not provide the scarce water resources.

The state builds the roads to connect it to the rest of the state and feeds in the electric supply generated mostly elsewhere in the state or purchased for cash by the state.

But lands of the state are being illegally squatted on by migrants. Services of the state are being exploited by the migrants for eg using multiple counterfeited license plates on taxis to avoid paying taxes - i.e multiple taxis are plying with the same number.... Footpaths being squatted on by migrants.

What about the responsibilities of the migrants Mr Patil? Or is it just that Maharashtra has a Sophie's choice in either start an agitation and suffer OR sit quietly and die?

Jai Maharashtra.

Make stronger rules, issue work permits, make laws that say atleast all unskilled workers have to be locals. Use Domicile Cert as compulsary document for jobs. But ......... dragging out people and hitting them and boasting that on TV is not the solution. The actions of MNS portray as if they are demanding independence from the countrty per se. The only thing that is spreading is Hatred, and it will proliferate. Few years down the line when MNS is a more stablished party, they will not even bhave nerves to admit tha they did this. Sad, very sad !!

Lets take your suggestions...

Make rules - rules are there, they are being flouted and more rules will also be flouted.
More laws - all that will be is more paper, more bureaucracy. People who are already breaking laws by squatting on pipelines will not think about breaking more laws.

See a society operates as much on self discipline as on laws on paper. Self discipline cannot be enforced. Grown ups defecating in open view in open air like animals is something taken by migrants as a "right". The hatred of Maharashtra is enough for Rest of India to come up with lame suggestions like "new laws" to lecture us in this state.

Jai Maharashtra.

Sir,

If laws are not being followed then its not the law but the people at fault. Are you telling me that only Biharis or UPites flut the laws? We Indians in general have the least respect for law anyways. If things have to get better that has to change. Instead of changing our attitudes are yu saying kicking people out and creating a scene solves the purpose? Many countries have laws where a particluar financially strong area with potential of high employments have a work permit system even for nationals. China has it in many parts where only locals are allowed to work for certain jobs. If there is a will to implement there will always be a way.

Come on Sherini. What took you so long to say it? You got Madam's permission to say so at last. You need to do lot more than that to solve this crisis.
