There will no deluge
by Ganesh Parameswaran on Feb 09, 2008 10:22 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is a sad commentary that while there are hundreds of messages, often abusive and offensive, posted on this site on matters that mean little to the common man, here we have a great soul's departure and there will be not many messages posted. Such indifference, disinterest is the reason for the country's poverty, squalor and outrageous politicians.

Re: May our country has more of such selfless souls.
by Imran on Feb 09, 2008 10:21 AM  Permalink

It was a life which made so much diffrence to the people who deserved the caring.
He was a great soul and voluntered to have his body for experiments against leoprasy.
It is truly a national loss. He is the right candidate for BAHRAT RATNA.

Sad passing away of a great person
by Ram Narayanan on Feb 09, 2008 10:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is indeed sad to hear about this. What is more tragic is that this news is in some obscure section and not front page news. The headlines are hogged by politicians like Raj Thackrey or Sharad Pawar or Prakash Carat, or some cinema stars like Amitabh Bacchan or Kareena Kapoor. I guess sincere and selfless people like Baba Amte are not "popular" with the news channels or those who like reading the rubbish gossip and useless controversies. Baba Amte was a great son of India. Truly a giant in stature compared to the many self-serving national leaders of today. May his soul rest in peace.

Media is too busy in glorifying the corrupt people. The living saints are ignored as it does not give them the TRP's. May Baba's soul rest in Peace. May there be reincarnation of him, not one but million Baba's so that India is covered with goodness and hope for the destitudes and crusaders against corruption.

Man with a purpose
by Prakash Yallapragada on Feb 09, 2008 10:16 AM  Permalink

Enaadu newspaper recently published an article on Baba and we came to know of the details of the great work done by him.

Being a man with purpose, hee seems to have kept away from politics and did what's best - WORK.

Salutes to the man.

A Great Loss to Humanity
by soumik kalita on Feb 09, 2008 10:05 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Baba Amte has been one of the greatest living Indians with the yeoman services done to humanity. The Magsaysay award means little to his stature and am surprised when people were fighting for nominating people for the Bharat Ratna this year nobody remembered the crusader. The Indian Governments long standing tendency to recognise people posthumously is a sign of the lackluster attitude of the people sitting in power in Delhi. Anyways Baba was above all awards!

People like Baba Amte lived in my time is a moment which i will cherish with my lifetme. A rare comodity in this consumers' world. Not a surprise that he is not recognised by Delhi since he was of no use for their ulterior motives. He was a fit contender for Noble Price. When mother Terresa can get it why not Baba. Infact Mother Terresa's did it with a mission of christianity and Baba did it with a mission of humanity.

Nitin, you don't need to bring religion here. Mother Teresa was motivated by her Christian faith to do good works and conversion was never her motive. She would pick up Hindus and Muslims from the streets of Kolkata where people would dump them to die. You mention about the Nobel prize for Baba Amte, which is an international award, whereas our leaders in India haven't even found him worthy to receive the Bharat Ratna, whereas they fight over nominating politicians. This is the country we live in, where doing good to others has no value!

The problem is people in Delhi are deaf. So are people on street. Nothing changed after Mahatama Gandhi's Death, Nothing will change after Baba's death. That is universal tragedy, happening since we consider ourself civilised

Baba Amte - Eeshwar aplya atmya shanti devo hi prarthana.
How one can say:" This is the country we live in, where doing good to others has no value!" Think what we r writing & that too whats the topic!! Don't be cynic;Be positive,Practice some of his activities, For most of us here i think he's much above 'Bharat-Ratna'. Publicise good thoughts & actions and ignore the negative side. This will help us and the country as whole.
