I recall being impressed with "Sholay" when I first saw it also. However in hind sight it was due more to the lack of exposure to good quality cinema among Indian audiences of that time. Sholay was liked by the people because it was different from the genre of films being made in India at that time. That was one of the first movies shown on a large screen. The plot itself is a mere copy of a typical Clint Eastwood western. Even the characters seem to be exact copies therefrom.

See my dear there is no such as exposure to good quality cinema.People like movies in which there is a significant reflection of current times.To this eason I wud say Sholay wudn't have succeeded had it released today.It also applies to our superstars.Amitabh succeeded as the angry young man in 70's because he represented youth rebellion against the failed father figures of our society.Today shahrukh has succeeded because he has represented the cause of the new generation.Tying the knot between traditionand modernity.

Not Raj Kumar Santoshi, but Ram Gopal Verma, he also acknowledged that China Gate is a copy of Seven Samurai and tribute to Japanese director Kurosawa.
bull... sholay only movie to exmplify.. bla bla bla???? It is just an average film... with poor techiniques... except for amjad khan and sanjeev kumar's performance...and if you want great VIOLENCE... dharmender acts like a poor joker... not to talk about hema's pathetic acting.. all in all a typical hindi film... If you compare basu's and some of rajkapoor and devanand's films sholay pales in to insignificance.. Even the titles were very very ordinary ...

I just want to make u learn to respect the feeling of mass, the people who live with us sharing our country our land and all the things. Dont try to impose ur likings on others. Accept the fact that lot of people liked it and the film maker met the taste of huge mass as they wanted it to be.

If all these 3 movies are coming in TV at same day and same time, which one will the more public see? If public see Sholay then it a hit movie. And even if public doesn't see its a hit movie (because they have seen it more then 10 times and will watch some other channel.

Even remake of Sholay - AAG is flop in which Big B has acted. But remake of Don is very good. It is because of the technology. At that time it was good. But now when we are grown up we hate toys, which we liked earlier.

I liked them all for different reasons. even if it was an ordinary copy it appealed the mass, thats the charisma of that movie.It is an art and I believe it must get its due appriciation.
