EASIEST WAY TO EASE TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN MUMBAI
by Guest on Aug 22, 2008 11:22 AM  Permalink

Hello Mumbaites /Indians.,
I have been living in Mumbai last 8 yrs, struggling like millions who wait , fight like cats and dongs to get into the train- the lifeline of mumbai, wondering why the govt do anything to ease this , despite i pay around 50% of my earning to govt in direct and indirect taxes.

wonder why some common sense dont accrue to govt which is very evident to common ppl like us.

The most easiest way to free Mumbai's traffic without much pollution, environmental hazards like bandra-worli sealink, no ppl displacement, faster implemenation and with multiple direct benefits to all connected.

MUMBAI has THREE LIFELINES- 3 raillines which travels from one end to another. All are minimum 2 railways lines to maximum of 6 rail lines. Why not make a roadbrdge from one end to another on top of each of these lines. ?

Benefits : It takes 1/4th time to develop such a road bridge compared to a sealink

It takes 1/6th of cost of a sealink or a roadbridge like planned in haji ali.( alhtough i dont sympathise with Lataji & ashaji here)

No pollution as all trains runnign under are bye electricity.

Excellent space utilisation as curently such a vast tract of land and sky is underutilised

No public displacement to start development( liek airport development)

Faster development- as the rail lines help to transport the cranes, building materials

In main stations like - Andheri, bandra, borivli, churchgate, dadar, mumbai central - have office complexes and multilevel carpark

Low-cost Housing
by Bodh Ramdeo on Aug 18, 2008 09:09 PM  Permalink

All developed nations have created mass housing for their citizens, or created conditions for the private sector to play a role in filling the void where govt has left off.
In India there is no govt to speak of- thus there are no govt services for the aam aadmi. It's time the federal govt a federal agancey like HUD in the US, for created housing stock in every city and town in the nation on an emergency basis. Not only would this provide low-cost shelter to the hundreds of millions now homeless, but add a filip to the economy by directly creating tens of millions of construction jobs and indirectly in the construction related industries from cement, steel, roofing, hardware, electrical, plumbing, appliances etc, etc.
This way govt could provide low-cost housing for the aam aadmi, while the private players provide high-priced housing for the well-heeled and well-off. Also Federal Govt must take the initiative in 'Urban Redevelopment and Rehabilitation' employing phirang architects and planners if necessary for creating cohesive and comprehensive master-plans, not just for the momemnt, but for the 21st century, in addition to taking responsibility for providing mass, low-cost housing, on a priority basis.

SORRY FOR THIS MESSAGE
by Govardhan Brown on Aug 18, 2008 10:39 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I haven't bothered to read Mr. Abdul Kalam's interview here. All I want to bring to the notice of readers and Rediff that of late, Rediff has not been providing readers a chance to air their views on a number of issues, including governance, Amarnath-J&K, etc.
If Rediff has a policy on which items readers can post and cannot, it should clarify. On the face of it, this seems to be a form of censorship.

Population is the main Issue
by AMIT PAUL on Aug 17, 2008 06:20 PM  Permalink

If India wants to become real superpower then population need to be controlled. Seems like media also cares only about vote politics and that's why they are also not talking about population. The country which should have less than 220 million total population has more than 220 million people below poverty line.

RE:Muslims & christians are terrorists
by Krishnan Hariharan on Aug 17, 2008 03:52 AM  Permalink
don't accept it 100% but "have hindu or some other non-christian names" is right. recently some passages from the Upanishads have been added to the Bible. the religion will stoop to any levels to add people to their "bliss" party. its a spiritual catastrophe! even Jesus would find these dangerous trends unacceptable.

Bible comes in many versions. Just because they are adding some thing from upnishad does not mean any thing.
Christians believe as long as they believe in jesus they will go to heaven, no matter else they do.
Jesus is ravana, allah is kumbhkaran, nanak is meghnath, yahweh is shrupnakha

Dr. Kalam is one of the greatest son of India and he deserves to be awarded BHARAT RATN . He is rightly focusing on technological developments to make India ; a DEVELOPED NATION by 2020 .He is also rightly focusing on youth and school children to take the country forward . The message has also to reach to youth and children of small towns and villages where real India resides . Dr. Kalam can not personally go to these places due to security reasons .Dr. Kalam is requested to create workforce who should spead his message and implement concept of PURA .

Man with Mission: Vision 2020 : Former President A P J Abdul Kalam
by Loga on Aug 16, 2008 04:50 PM  Permalink

My take: Give India another 20 Years. Many ills will be taken care of. It is a very good time for US to partner with India. India will not, ever be like China, a country to fear. It will be a very strong country, and will remain friendly and open.
India is able to achieve 8%-9% GDP GDP growth from last 10 years and millions of Jobs created in India fastest in the world.
It should not surprise you that the highest rated engineering school in the world is IIT and the highest rated Management school is IIM. Both tougher to get into than MIT and Wharton. Medical schools like AIIMS and CMC Vellore are not household names yet in US but they are names to watch.
India has a lot going for it in the realm of higher education.
Give it time and not too much either, India will surprise you and very fast.
