the thing doc should have done
by k k on Aug 09, 2008 08:20 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is very sad to hear the treatment of the doctor and it is totally an unfortunate incident. I can not imagine what he must have gone thru that night in prison along with other inmates. It must have been a very traumatic experience. While it is always easy to comment on hind site, the doctor should not have pleaded guilty and paid the fine. I am sure his emotional distress contributed to his judgment and the fact that fighting the charges would have taken a lot of time, energy and resources, still pleading not guilty would have been appropriate. And after all being is USA for 30 years and still not standing up to fight for his rights is not understandable. Taking the easy way out is as said is always easy but had he resisted, he would have had a better case. And than filing the case against the injustice causes to him by the authorities, he would have than reminded all the law enforcement agencies that we Indians too can stand up to our rights and than would have treated other people with some respect in future. By his actions, i am afraid the good doctor lost a chance to prevent similar agony to the future Indian travelers. Just my opinion and any comments most welcome

Do you think the authorities would have acted this way, had the passenger been an european,a japanese or a chinese? What image our country cuts with the international community, matters a lot in the way indians or persons of indian origin are treated by the westerners.

Nest time U see an American in India...
by Faceless Indian on Aug 09, 2008 08:07 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Give the Americans back in other countries - next time you see an American in India - treat him that way instead of licking his - a cases of reported misbehavior against Americans in other countries will make the American media wake up. The only way these American jerks will learn is when they are paid back in their own coin.

But what the heck - our Indian desi's will more than happily put up with that crap and live as second class citizens there than come back to india and live with their heads held high.

Mark my words, this very same doctor will still continue to live in the US - a little whining will happen, he will try to whip up emotions, try to raise his voice with some Indian American groups - and continue to live there and whine to anyone who cares to lend him an ear. Life goes on - this is not the first case of abuse against an Indian American and its certainly not going to be the last.

The good Doctor has lived in USA for 38 years. He is a US citizen. This is as much his country,as for President Bush.

You can't expect the good doctor to run.He has done nothing wrong. That is a defeatist attitude. The only wrong thing he has done is plead guilty.

You don't run away because of some racist thugs harassing and bringing false charges.

He is not a good doctor he is a witch doctor, who is making up a story, to save his ass. You know how they are strict in planes these days, but "this Kuuuuuli" must have acted in very typical "kuuuuli" manner, and then try to show off his "doctor credentials" to the flight attendent, who in turn show is right place. Why would you take a blood pressure pill when flight between missouri and las vegas is less than 3 hrs? Why didnot he take it before the flight? Good that this doctor is getting a pill of his medicine. Hope he gets a whopping of worst kind. His whole story is a lie.

Dude - if you are as much an American as George Bush - face the problem as an American citizen. Don't start raising INDIAN - AMERICAN sentiments and rush to Rediff.com or India abroad. Bring up the issue in yahoo or any other american site and see who gives you an ear. No one - trust me no one gives two hoots. The only reason he has remembered his Indian American connections is because they are the only ones who will listen to him.

If a person of his stature is treated like this, just imagine the case of normal indians who go to US..

Mind you, no policemen in India would ever behave to a doctor or an engineer or one having good name in the society like this --
Sir, you'd better shut up! You are already in trouble. Whatever you say could be used against you.'

You Already Lost ! Doc.

The poor doctor has no case against the airline after he unfortunately pleaded guilty to misdemeanor during flight, based upon expediency and improper legal advice and that would have res-judicata effect upon his claim that he may file against the airline.

Had he been acquitted, then he could claim for damages from the airline.

In view of pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges, the good doctor should worry about
losing his medical license, where he will be collaterally estopped from defending his license by relitigating the incident on the airline.

This is USA for you.Racism is alive and well.

False investigations based upon invited false complaints to libel and slander the good name, hiring false witnesses, false testimony, fabricating evidence, breaking into cars, home invasions, stealing cell phones and other valuables, planting evidence, planting listening devices and cameras to invade privacy, monitor phones conversations,e-mail,regular mail monitor web surfing and finally tempering with juries and judges is a daily routine for police
and the prosecutors.

The whole press wud hav gone gung-ho abt it. The Indian community is pretty lame to not have taken up this issue to seriousness it needs. If American Indians don't act many of us r gonna recieve the same treatment from these racists.

I felt the same when i travelled in American airlines. I shocked to see the behavioural difference in serving drinks for me(Indian) and the native american next to me. It was disgusting at that time.

Next time, smile, and say in a crisp British accent:

"No thank you, I don't drink." when the air-ayah is serving the gora.
